I was chatting to a model railway enthusiast this evening, and he mentioned that Rod Stewart has a big one (model railway set-up that is) and also Jools Holland is a fan. It got me thinking, are there any celebrities who play 40K (or any other GW game)? Or are even into any part of the hobby? I can't think of a single one.

Now I don't mean people who are famous within the hobby, because of the hobby, but people who were already famous, who have confessed to loving a bit of Grim Darkness. Doesn't matter how minor or z list, please post them here - or link me to where this thread has been done before as I am sure it must have been

Not many that are known.

Thanks, looks like that was from 12 years ago though. Hoping it's easier to admit these days, being more popular than ever.

Also: Arnie's a 40k fan. That's made my day. /thread done

Henry Cavill is probably the most recent 'trending' celebrity. He made a point of posting about painting Custodes during lockdown.

Most "nerd" actors have never been afraid to show their nerd sides. Will Smith proudly admits that his first ever paycheck from Fresh Prince went to buying the Transformers toy Razorbeast because he never had enough money before then to buy one. They even let him play with it on the show because he was so excited.

I have to admit I had to look up who he is - i've given up following superhero films - but seems a legit A lister, and Custodes are very fittingh for someone who played Superman.

Players or just painters and collectors? I also knew that Henry Cavill loves GW, but does he actually play?

Custodes are also the perfect army for someone whom is busy and travels often. as they're small and thus easy to lug around

He started painting during the covid lockdown as he finally had TIME to do it. so my guess is he wants to play but likely having the time to do so is hard.

I wonder about Guillermo Del Toro and the other writers of Dreamworks Trollhunters - one of the characters uses the codename War Hammer on a stakeout and has a tank on his shelf. Kelsey Grammer’s characters shouts out something close to Gorkamorka (“Gronka Morka” on the subtitles) in surprise to something.

No offense man but if you ONLY know Robin Williams as "the Genie from Aladdin" you're culturally deprived (seriously he did some great stuff)

I would hesitate to say she actively plays, but MMA fighter turned pro wrestler Shayna Baszler is big into 40k, even her ring gear has Chaos stars and Khorne symbols on it (less so since she joined WWE but you can see it on her indie gear).

Hearing her talk about the HH series on UpUpDownDown was quite interesting.

Yeah, the Genie from Aladdin also did Prince of Bel Air, MIB and Independence Day. *dives for cover*

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Yes! Back in 3rd edition my father and the group of guys he played a little 40k with ended up playing with Robin Williams a couple of times. He was one of those famous people who is incredibly cagey about "fan" interactions and just really really wanted hobbies where he could check out and not be "celebrity persona" when he wasn't working, so he would generally go to local hobby shops in an area where he was filming or recording something and negotiate a situation of "can I come and play/paint here, and not be a 'celebrity guest' and just be a normal guy hanging out and playing games" and apparently the baseball card shop where my dad used to go to play warhammer was good enough at that arrangement that any time Robin was anywhere near the new england area he'd specifically head out to play with that crew.

It's pretty tricky to find a 'safe space' like that. I'm friends IRL with a few folks who have relatively minor celebrity status in a few internet-focused areas, and navigating that is a real bitch. I can't even imagine the order of magnitude worse it would be if you were a person who could be instantly recognized by face.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

I figured that most people nowadays would only know him from that.

Coincidentally, he also played Mork

That is a very unfortunate price to fame that no one knows about until it is too late. When MTV had their show "MTV Cribs" on,(may still be on, I don't watch MTV any more) they had a summary show that I was watching, and they provided a dirty little secret on the show about these celebrity homes that they were showcasing. Most celebrities can't really get out of the house and thus most spend a lot on their homes to make them exactly what they need and want. It is similar to what we all have been dealing with during the lockdown only more extreme and for longer. For instance most celebrity athletes can't just go to their local gym in the off season without running a risk of being mobbed by fans or detractors, thus the reason why athletes tend to spend a lot on a home gym and have a personal trainer. Likewise all celebrities can't simply take a trip to the Grocery store without the same problems, thus the reason why they have to hire at least a personal shopper. So having Robin Williams find a game store where he can quietly hang out and paint his army, and perhaps get a game with the owner or employee when the store is empty or is closed is pure gold for someone like him.

How could you play a character named Mork and NOT play 40k?

Interestingly and contrarily, Williams was most known as an Eldar player.

He also had a basement set up at his home for play.
