They're basically the same thing. I don't care what the IG cavalry is called as long as it exists.

They're the same thing other than y'know, one being subfaction locked and the other being generic...

I've been saying this for awhile now but it bears repeating:
DKoK are supposed to be getting Death Riders and Grenadiers/Engineers as boxes that go with their "standard" infantry set.

No reason they couldn't give both rough riders and death riders though (presumably as separate kits). I mean, DKoK are already redundant with Cadians and Catachans, same unit just with different aesthetic, no reason that can't follow through to cavalry units too.

Skitarii got 2 different cav options in one 3 pack. They could do a 3 pack of cav with either DKoK or other guard riders.

They're actually pretty different.

One had some manner of outflank, special weapons and flak armor. The other had to buy their lances, wore carapace armor and couldn't flank. It's pretty distinct, coming from a company who produced 4 Marines codex with units with the same gear and only one extra flavor rule.

The entire heads of the mounts were different as well. And organic horses probably take up less spree space than the serberys do.

Still falls under head options!

I couldn't find a way that didn't sound ridiculously wordy to say "two sets of two different head options and then two sets of arm options", if I'm gonna be honest.
And organic horses probably take up less spree space than the serberys do.

Unless they're going to shrink the horses to be smaller than the Serberys, I find it hard to think that.

So in the comments of the Reddit thread about this Rumor Engine someone asked if these are "horse or motorcycle rough riders" to which a known leaker responded:

Well, if there is not Official Guard talk, then we probably won't have to wait too long for a reveal. I'd guess we'll potentially see something about them at the May Warhammer Weekend, with the very slim chance we get a look come Adepticon.

Whoa! Lord Solar Leontus?! In 40k seriously!? Better not be an early April Fools!

Spoiler:
I actually have no idea who that is. But IIRC Lord Solar is the highest IG rank and a High Lord of Terra.

And riding a Baneblade. Maybe 2 Baneblade with one foot on each like Jean Claude Van Dam in that commercial.

Anyway Lord Commander is basically the 40k version of 5 star general/admiral and Lord Commander Solar means LC of the Solar region. So if that comment means anything it would imply that the IG is getting a new supreme commander dude.

As the Kid said, “Lord Solar” is an officer rank, technically in both the Astra Militarum and the Astra Classis, that is bestowed solely by the High Lords of Terra (or Gulliman, these days). It has an alternative title that some of its recipients have preferred not to use for obvious reasons, that of “Warmaster”, and it represents the same level of autonomy to prosecute wars against the Imperium’s enemies. Which is why there can only ever be one active in the galaxy at once. Specifically they can command both the army and navy and (theoretically) marines to make war at their personal discretion. Not even the High Lords technically have that right; they must provide an objective and let the commanders in the region affected figure it out between themselves. Whereas, the Lord Solar/Warmaster can launch a full scale planetary invasion to rescue a cat from a tree if he wants. Which is why they are chosen very carefully and very rarely.
Anyway, the most famous Lord Solar of all time was, of course, St. Macharius, who conquered a thousand worlds in a hundred years and has his own mausoleum planet.

That said, and not to disparage Lord Guilleman’s choice of course, a Lord Solar willing to risk themselves in personal combat as this new one seems to be is a rare individual even by the standard of rarity of Lords Solar.

You know what would be cool about this rumour. If the Lord Solar was of Krieg. Either that, or a Cadian...

You know what, any of the Regiments would do. Vostroyan, Mordian, Tallarn... Not bound to a regiment, but atleast with a history of that regiment.

Lord Solar Leontus should be a Praetorian, I mean just look at the name - Leontus... Leon... Leo... Lion.... The Barbary Lion and Lion Passant are symbols of England, England is the inspiration behind...

PRAETORIA!

Incidentally, we have a tank named the Macharius in honor of Lord Solar Macharius. What are the chances that the new bigger Leman Russ is called the Leontus after Lord Solar Leontus (instead of the Rogal Dorn Battle Tank which - as much as I love Dorn - is just fething silly).

Holy crap. I've said for years I'd sell all my minis for a chance to play a guard cavalry army...looks like I might need to start!

well don't get too excited, they are likely a fast attack choice, which means you legally top out at 3 squads in a 2000pt game :(

unless of course you're one of those 40k gigachads that has a local group that ignores matched play rules.

By the way, I'd just like to say that I know what the Lord Solar rank is, it's the name Leontus which I never heard of. And when googling came up with nowt.
