I will be very disappointed if this is just a joke.

I see some people going, "What? Upset over a friend who's army got squatted 30 years ago?" Well, what if it was YOUR favorite faction that happened to and they messed with YOU?

I know if they teased Harlequins, Admech, or GSC and then said, "We're not really making those models. Just a joke, mate!" to me, I'd be less than happy.

30 years is a long time to hold a grudge. You have the heart of a true squat and I salute you for it

There’s a difference between holding a grudge for 30 years, and getting over it but then the company starts making a joke out of it. Don’t have to have been annoyed for 30 years to be re-annoyed by it now. (I know you were making a squat/grudge joke but still)

The "reveal" shows them in some type of Space Hulk dealio, so it's not even implying an army

I think it could easily be a kill team expansion. Great way to introduce them.

On the other hand, the animation may be for something else and the squat was just added as the April Fool at the end of something legit.

I'm a long-term Squat fan who owns more Squats than most of you, so I don't have that much skin in this game. To me the joke, if it's just a joke, doesn't work that well since both the headline pointing out the story itself as unbelievable, and the mention of the calendar, clearly indicate that this is a joke which is kind of breaking the pretense of reality a good April fool joke is built on.

But if it is, eh, whatever. I like the design we see at the end of the video since it looks to be a fairly original looking realization of the old Squat concept that I would love to see in a non-silhouetted form.

If it's something new in the Warhammer Quest line (which stands to reason they'd want something new in the 40K universe as Blackstone Fortress did better than the AoS games) then a single Squat hero in that seems realistic.

I was right about it being Squats!

The main thing that suggests this isn't just an April Fools day joke is the design of the squat himself. I can't really see them going through the effort of designing/updating their looks in a way that still stays in line with their original theming (the plasma weapon is clearly an updated design on the classic version they had for example) just for a joke. I'd have expected them to use some classic artwork or an old miniature photo or something along those lines rather than making an entirely reasonable trailer.

There's more than enough reasonable doubt on both sides of that at this point. Squats have already returned in Necromunda anyway so, as limited as that format is, it's not as earth shattering a change in their status as it once might have been.

Then there's how squats have actually returned already. If this was a few years back and we didn't have Grendlsen and Gunnstein Miniatures, and they hadn't appeared in Psychic Awakening, then this would be a different matter and far less likely.

I voted joke, but however it shakes out, that trailer is a win!

You could very easily make this video into a Space Hulk trailer by removing the Squat, so i mean, i guess that's where it comes from.

I agree that its odd that so much effort was spent on the animation, but it could easily have been an aborted project from Warhammer+ or from elsewhere, up until the final 15 seconds, and repurposed for this.

I think they always stay up. I guess we’ll know when either something more comes of it, or it doesn’t.

My gut feeling is if it was a joke GW would't have left it open ended at the end of the video. Good April jokes from companies have to have a clear "This is a joke" part to them otherwise they can backfire horribly.

GW knows that the only thing that sells better than plastic crack is nostalgic plastic crack. Squats returning is a "when", not an "if".

I really wish they would release a new edition of Space Hulk with non Space Marine expansions, including one that has rules to run a Squat salvage/extermination crew. They could even make the Squat kit cross compatible with Kill Team and Necro if they plan it right.
