Still not entirely sold on the coats, but I think overall the trikes are growing on me.

Whereas the more I see of them, the less I like them; and I didn't like them very much to begin with.

Also? A grump for you.

Whilst I’m stoked Squats are returning, and so far I’m overall liking what I see…I do worry about the current style of Codex, as the background is King, and we’ve not really been getting Unit by Unit background. Given we currently know little about the Squats, that’s….not terribly ideal.

Maybe we’ll see them break the current mould for the Squat codex.

How to design a whole new range from scratch

Step 1) Hijack a known name that carry hope and expectation for the consumers.
Step 2) Start hinting at a return to form that match said hope and expectation by doing some test runs for a specialist game.
Step 3) Decide to ignore all these hope and expectation and do something else entirely.
Step 4) Make sure the new lore you are crafting as as nonsensical and fit as little as possible with the rest of the established setting.
Step 5) Profit.

So what do we got this time?
Very sturdy grave bicks with giant unprotected grave plates used specifically for small prospect expedition far away from the rest of the kins, but that are somehow "central and powerful element of the main Kin battle lines".
Yeah, that make sens.

On top of being very sturdy, they are also of course very fast and maneuverable and comes with very strong firepower.
I mean, sure why not.

My favourite codex/army book lore-wise is still the original 6th edition dwarf army book. Each unit had a short description written from the perspective of a longbeard grumbling about them in a tavern.

It was great.

1) You cannot win. 2) You cannot break even. 3) You cannot stop playing the game.

Definitely gives a better impression now we've seen the full squad, that back-mounted weapon is pretty cool.

I like the idea of the coats, but i'm not entirely sure about the look of it because of their round armour making it seem overly bulky.

Hopefully they come with some helmets too, though.

I was on the fence about the trikes and still not quite off it but leaning more towards liking it. The Jes and Andy comments show a lot of what I was thinking about the designs is right and I like it. The robot comparison stood out a while ago, main issue I have with the coats and parka hoods is that my games narrative is more hot weather/temperate look. But go all out and do snow themed basing just for fun. Could see getting a “THE THING” look with snow around the parka fur.

Apprently that thing mounted on the bikes, the "hylas", the thing that clearly look like a balistic weapon with a rotative ammo mag, is apparently a laser. Because laser have that kind of mag now I guess.

What part are you thinking is the ammo mag for the Hylas? I can't see anything there that looks to be it, the infantry version had a lasgun-like power pack.

oh noes its 3 per box? I can take 1 but 3 nopes and they are going to shove these on the patrol box for sure...damn.

Look fairly decent. Of all of the models released, I liked that original trike the least. But the group look much better.

The laser cannon looks nice, very meaty.

I quite like the dusters. Aesthetically a nice touch, obviously gives them more a pioneer vibe. They have a Riddick quality to them which looks pretty cool.

I'm probably never going to purchase them but I hope they have an option to have both hands each holding the handlebars. It looks cool and also makes each rider distinct, but it looks excessive when all 3 are firing off their side arm.

Safety first, even in the grim dark far future!

Really like the heavy weapon version - the weapons are really nice. I hope they have a variety of heads- I'm guessing the whole range will be more or less compatible so you ca swap heads between units.
The design notes from Andy and Jes are really nice- hopefully they will do a video interview with them talking about how they developed the range. Theres some nice touches which reference the original squats.

This?

Edit: Oh wait, rereading their thing I guess they were referring to the big rear-mounted gun. Nevermind then.

Yeah they were referring to the big thing on the back, that weapon there is an autocannon.

on the forum. Obviously

Not sure I like the overall look of the bike, but I do like that gunner. He's rocking that coat.

As for the ammo supply for the Hylas, I'm not sure. We don't know what's on the other side of it, so maybe it has a big cylinder thing like on the ion (?) cannon :

I can imagine that to get in the way. But I think that can be remedied in three easy steps:

1. Drink an alcoholic beverage of your choice.
2. Drink some more.
3. Read the background in Swedish Chef voice.

You won't actually know more about the units than if you read the codex the boring way. You will however go into it with a positive mindset and develop tailor-made headcanon that is likely to feel better than the plain GW version by virtue of being a memorable experience.

I like him, too. I think he does Squat right with that bulky coat, the hood and the beard. I could see myself like the models in a color scheme not chosen by GW.

The gun trike as a whole is also pretty nice. I think GW led with the worst of the three models and should have probably used the one with the face hidden under goggles and behind the gun instead. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the female face (there is), but at the time people were still under the impression that we're getting actual space dwarfs and a conservative face with a proper beard or as the alternative the face just not being visible would have been a better choice.

It's more that GW isn't talking about it, isn't it? We're catching on just fine that they're trying to merge Demiurg and Squats, but I'm not sure if GW made mention of it outside a hazy comment of trade with Xenos or Tau or both?

GW lets artwork and models speak for themselves on the matter.

It's still a pretty weird way to do it tbh, especially after they went so hard on the whole "yeah thos are totly the squats and they are back" to they reveal they aren't actually the squats.
If they are indeed the Demiurg (which is rather evident at this point) it's just odd of them to not straight up say it. "Yah, X faction of LoV are called the Demiurge, they have been working with Tau for a while now, yada yada".

The thing on the rotary hylas is a targeting optic isn’t it? Thanks don’t particularly see any type of ammo supply in the bike mounted version.

I think these bikers look fine. Kind of how I felt with the first one. Probably the best of the range for me.

My issue with the range continues to be how every unit seems to have a unique design philosophy.
