Hopefully the new 'Zerker kit will be compatible with the current CSM... ... sorry, I couldn't make it through the whole sentence without laughing at that concept.

They actually mentioned that it was compatible with the rest of the Chaos range on the stream and I immediately felt rage because that only matters if ANY UNIT IN EITHER BOOK HAS OPTIONS.

In terms of rules, that's true. But being able to mix and match different kits I think is very important to the hobby.

Two things spring to mind:

1. I was in a meeting during the HH/WE portion of the presentation, so didn't hear that. It sure sounds cool, except...
2. ... I don't believe them. Plus GW's opinion on "compatible" isn't the same as the rest of the world's.

To be clear: I do not think that the two presenters were lying, I just think that they don't actually know.

Votann is fine. I'm not motivated to buy them (especially having just started a major army project with GSC), but they'll be fun to see from across the battlefield.

Ascended Horus is a great-looking model.

The vague "Winter" release for Guard and World Eaters may mean they get their launches after the 10e unveiling at LVO in January.

Next winter is December 20, 2022 to March 20, 2023. Usually the only things released around Christmas are army boxes, so I'm not expecting Guard till sometime in January and World Eaters maybe in February..

Gw reveals editions around may. January way too soon to reveal summer release.

They often actually just admit that they don't know, as they did with the psychic displine (which is itself infuriating, because they're doing a reading of a press copy, so they should, and if they don't, one of the five people in the sound booth should tell them the answer).

Not compatible would be honestly weird. GW's at the point where they can just tweak power armor bits and send them out into the world, they're all CAD files. Making non-compatible bits would require more effort than just using the standard sockets.

Admittedly sometimes they do death guard, but given that people have previously complained that these berserkers (or the one that was previewed initially) look too much like normal CSM, I don't really think that's a concern.

I said said, their version of "compatible" differs to everyone else.

Compatible means you can mix'n'match as you see fit. GW probably thinks that because heads, shoulder pads and backpacks can be mixed, that the kits are "compatible".

Voss wrote:

You say that, but then we get a 'Zerker kit where half an arm is connected to the front part of the torso and the right shin and left leg, with the other half of the body containing the rest of the legs, and part of the other arm, and only one chainsword and boltpistol combi fit with those half arms... but the head and shoulder pads can be anything from the kit, so yay, "compatible"!

As always: Me being wrong is a good thing for everyone, but I don't have any faith in GW to do things properly anymore. This upcoming WE book is going to utterly gut World Eater armies, leaving them with dregs for unit choices.

Guard? Last Codex of the year. World Eaters? First Codex of next year. Then either a 10th Ed designed new Marine Codex, or filler campaign books and then BOOM, 10th Ed in May/June, followed by a new Marine Codex (if it's not already out) and a seriously downgraded Tyranid Codex.

Lots of conversions from titan parts.
Black thing on the left is part of a bellicosa volcano cannon with a vent added. Top right tower thing is the barrel from a quake cannon. Middle top looks like the back block of a volcano cannon or laser blaster.

Edit: Actually it looks like it is all parts from a belicosa, stood vertically and with vents added.

HA! I was certain you were going put up a pic of either AOS Wrathmongers or Skullreapers. Zardoz....wow. But honestly I think the Wrathmongers or Skullreapers with their power armor snow-pants are still far worse

Votann: I’m not sure about them as a whole still, but some of the stuff they showed today is my favourite. There’s more left than I’d thought too. I love the Land Fortress - I can see the ‘inflatable’ thing, but it doesn’t bother me at all. And I think the Grimnyr is really cool. I’m not sure about the drone things though, they look a bit goofy. And I still do not like the Beserks at all (although I like the detail of the powered down axe).

Underworlds: they hit this warband out the park, in my opinion. The Gorehulk in particular is awesome. I definitely didn’t have Khorne in mind for that headdress rumour engine.

AoS: actually a big fan of the Ogor, even the head. It looks a bit goofy, but almost in a creepy way. Reminds me of something you might see in a ‘hillbilly’ slasher film like Wrong Turn or something. The drake head quiver is a really nice touch.

King Brodd is nice enough, the new bits are pretty cool. I’m not the biggest fan of the underlying model and it’s a shame that if you have multiple Mega Gargants (in this economy?!) they have the same leg pose, although I do think the silhouettes change a fair bit.

The new StD Chosen are ace, nothing bad to say about them. The Ogroid things put me off the box though, they have not grown on me at all.

Horus Ascended: what an absolutely incredible model. I liked (and still do like) the original Horus, he was probably up there in Primarch models for me, and this one is even better. I like how much maps to the original too. Not that I was ever expecting some big warp monster but externally Horus’s corruption was very subtle compared to the others.

Berserkers: 10 to a box! They look great, I think. The one they showed before was the most plain of them, lots of cool helmet/head variety, the weapons are great. They’re exactly what they should have been, the same idea as the originals, they just actually look good now.

Not a bad show overall, imo.

Glad I didn't stay awake to watch this. Votann, AoS, KhorneBois, none of it is my cup of tea.

Yall reckon we wont be seeing any more HH plastics this year? Ok, wake me up in 2023... sheesh

Horus Ascended looks pretty good but I'm no god-forsaken traitor (unless GW licences 2000AD Khaos followers such as Nemesis The Warlock & friends)

Well, it's September and we've just had a really big HH box set and several vehicles released in plastic. I'm guessing that's it through late spring at least.

Warlord have just released Slaine so you never know what might follow from them. You could get lucky. Wasn't there a Dredd Helter Skelter scenario book planned where all the 2000AD characters could collide?

Cannot believe they made add-on bits for Sons of Behemat to be a special character, and didn't replace the belly plate at least. That army must feel so boring to paint at this point.

I think the only weird thing about the Votann is that my dwarf player is still on the fence with them and me, an elf player, am warming way too much towards them.

Have to kind of agree. It works for the Knights in 40k as those are machines and machines have very similar parts, but for SoB it kind of waters down the army with the same decorations..

New Chosen are fantastic, seriously excellent models.

I also really like the Khorne Bezerkers, fair play it's a great new kit. Interested to see what happens with the rest of the WE codex.

Back to the Votann, obviously the psyker is the best model in the whole range and the style of the droids is extremely cool. The mole launcher is a nice little kit, mainly because of the wee ironkin helper. I like the idea of them patiently handing ammunition to this over muscled frothy mouthed dwarf shouting oaths and firing into the ground.

I am in two minds about the land fortress. I don't dislike it, but I understand the criticism. It's a bit too bubbly and I want it to have tracks.

I just want my hands on the codex so I can slorp up the lore.

There is exactly one Berserker model that is perfect. The rest always misses the mark with something goofy about it. Alternate chest plates and helmets would go a long way for me.

Custom40k Homebrew - Alternate activation, huge customisation, support for all models from 3rd to 10th edition

Designer's Note: Hardened Veterans can be represented by any Imperial Guard models, but we've really included them to allow players to practise their skills at making a really unique and individual unit. Because of this we won't be making models to represent many of the options allowed to a Veteran squad - it's up to you to convert the models. (Imperial Guard, 3rd Edition)

I think all reveals have been pretty much amazing. Really love the Votann "drones" and the Land Fortress, such a unique silhouette and looks to be a pretty beefy kit.

Star of the show was Horus Ascendant for me. The old model was amazing, but the new one seems to have more modern proportions and to be more in scale with the later released Primarchs (for those who don't know, the Primach models are not in scale, the early ones were smaller than the later ones). Also this means there must be an Emperor model coming, with the pose of the classic Horus vs the Emperor artwork, right? RIGHT??

Berzerkers look amazing, the only thing I'm not completely sold on is the Ogor Hunter. He seems to be rather slim by Ogor standards, the proportions of his body and head don't seem to match with previous models. And no tigers? Boo!

Overall a really solid preview!

Squats were expected and appear to be getting a very nice chunky first wave of models with a solid starter set and codex combo. The newly revealed stuff is looking great and I'm glad to see them get a good chunk of models right out the door as that helps the aesthetics of the army come together.

AoS is getting a big wave of Battletomes and updates and considering that Squats are clearly dominating this next release wave I think AoS is doing more than good for new stuff. Slaves to Darkness are getting some nice chunky updates and the new Demon Prince kit is coming! That Battlebox I think is going to be very popular come Christmas.

HH gets a big resin model and that looks awesome, not for me, but looks awesome!

Overall a nice chunky set of releases and previews.

Wee bit disappointed Horus is all we saw for Heresy, as I had been hoping for another wave of plastic goodies. I’m not particularly wanting lots of different Mks, but I do want a greater variety of plastic infantry.

Of course not previewed doesn’t equate to not coming ever, but still mild disappoint. Like finding that last Cornetto was the one you had last night. Not the end of the world, but an unexpected trip to the shops.

Everything else is wunderbar though. Whilst I’m not tempted by a Votann army (the army box itself seems….a bit anaemic), the range is looking great. I particularly like the Land Fortress, as it’s armour plating and side doors are both vaguely reminiscent of the Land Raider, demonstrating perhaps a common ancestor design in the past, or that one was the development of the other.

It’s far from easy to drop stuff into 40K and have it look cohesive with the rest of the setting, but I think they’ve done it.

A good solid update on things to come for sure.

Votaan has so many cool kits that its hard to pick just one as the favourite.
A unit with just cogs would look sweet.

Happy with the range but that army box is a no go for me. I dont want the bikes, dex and infantry repetitions at this point in time.
