Pretty much all the lore on Tyranids has them as 100% out of Galaxy creatures.

The exact nature of the Hive Mind and its relationship with the Warp is not really known in specifics. We don't even really know what the Hive Mind is nor how it works. We have impressions of it from those who have interacted with it, but ultimately Tyranids are a massive unknown.
Eg we know that the Hive Mind appears to operate over vast distances in various forms and has a presence in the Warp itself. It could be some kind of situation where one part of Tyranids is in the Physical world and one part is in the Warp; it might be that the Hive Mind uses the Warp to help spread its influence; it might be its just totally alien to the warp and drives all else before it away with how alien it is.

And example of the unknown is they built a planet sized structure which helps project a massive Shadow in the Warp, but other than that and some reference of some Genestealer Cultists visiting it and having a "moment" there's no real info on what it does or what its for.

Tyranids are unknown save that they are fully the most alien thing being from outside the Galaxy.

That sounds like some recent fluff. Sorry, but everything after and including the 5th Edition Tyranid codex is BS. The hive mind was a warp entity before then, and the Tyranids used the warp for FTL travel, not Narvhals or gravity nonsense. Also, before the Newcron retcon, the Necrons and Old Ones (and likely many of their creations) traveled to or existed in other galaxies. The whole retcon to everything happening only in our galaxy has made the setting smaller and the scale less reasonable considering the time spans and tech level. The retcon even had to eliminate Necron FTL (inertialess drive, and nerfed the space fold) to keep everything small and lacking in the grand scale of 3rd/4th.

The 5th edition writers made simple things complicated, complicated things simple, and big things small. Their fluff doesn’t hang together in a cohesive whole, even if you discard all the old material.

So, I guess if you liked the fluff where now Necrons use the warp/webway for ftl because they couldn’t come up with the science that allows Tyranids to make gravity bugs, then never mind.

Xenology, for all its faults, lined up with the out-of-universe background given in the Oldcron codex. And the writers of that codex made it pretty clear where they were going with the background.

Just because you personally don't like the newer background doesn't make you right.

True.

I just find discussing the background with newer, broken fluff similar to a discussion of Star Wars that needs to include a hyperspace ram that makes all the previous movies look stupid. At some point I (maybe not you) just have to acknowledge the setting is dead, and backtrack to its last heartbeat.

I always understood the C’Tan to eat the biochemical energy or mindstate of their victims, described poetically as the soul, rather than actually eating the warp essence part of their victims embedded in the warp, the one aspect of the setting anathema to the C’Tan.

Also, the Necrontyr are the only species we know were not created by the Old Ones, so they are least likely to have a soul in the warp sense.

GWs frantically rewrote C'tan to be less interesting and mysterious in 5e and cocked all that up.

They didn't want an actual unknowable eldritch enemy in the setting for some reason.

It's pretty clear that the Hive Mind is a warp entity of some sort, and likely is a gestalt soul of the entire Tyranid race.
