Generic plastic primarch kit.

54mm tall dude in ornate armor, choice of a 'good' straight sword, or 'evil' spikey axe. Bald head or helmet head. Choice of a rock or dead body to put one foot on. Includes 5 or 6 different chapter shoulder pads and one blank one.

I'm dead serious. It would sell.

a bit like the old marine captain kit, designed to build a captain and also have all the various optional bits you probably only want one or two of in an army

This. The Esoterist and Diabolist are less than useful without Ruinstorm to actually summon.

It's a nice idea, but I suspect a lot of HH players would feel that it wasn't 'historically accurate' enough. A generic Praetor, however, along the same lines - that would be very popular. Of course, GW have moved away from this level of customisation in their character models.

Now the Jetbikes are all but confirmed, the need for Assault Infantry is a priority. Especially with Jump Packs, so folk can play Fast Lists.

We can all cross a plastic jetbike kit off our wish lists, now that the first image has surfaced. The only question is whether it's a Mk IV or Mk VI rider. The next question is whether the character models that are coming are resin or plastic. This might be the beginning of a range of plastic Consuls - there is a Librarian and Vigilator, both of which could be plastic with some optional parts so they can be built as loyalist or traitor. It's probably too much to expect, however.

I’m torn.

Sure we can look back at the FW range, and suspect resin. Particularly given the half in, half out approach of Specialist Games.

But we do have 6 plastic characters already, 4 of which are named characters. And, Horus Heresy has its own top billing on the main website. So like it’s stablemates 40K and AoS, All Plastic for units may very well be the norm.

Not unless it gets far more popular than it is.
I'd also argue that the characters in plastic bit is a bit disingenuous. Two were made for a boxed game almost 6 years ago now, two are the generic character models for starting the game, and the other two were released as part of the Black Library celebration. There's been more characters released by FW in the new edition in resin than plastic characters by GW.
It doesn't actually set a precedent.

What's the point of this ? There are only ever been 20 primarchs, and only 18 are playable and we already have dedicated models for them. "Generic primarchs" ? That's an oxymoron

It's a bit of a trolling, because honestly I don't think the 18 (19? 20? 21?) will ever get plastic models (and if they did I doubt they'd show any savings over the resin ones) so I think one 'generic' primarch would be hysterical.

Sorry to jump on the whole of this post, but what makes people claim the game needs to get more popular?

Yes please! I always thought Sicarans were the only decent looking 40K Admech models (Ok, I do like Kastelans too). 30K AdMech on the other hand..

Specifically as a response to this:
So like it’s stablemates 40K and AoS, All Plastic for units may very well be the norm.

HH is not popular enough and will never be popular enough to be an all-plastic release system. Don't get me wrong, I love HH but I'm also very realistic about what is coming for the game.
To break away from FW entirely, HH would have to usurp one of the big ones similar to how LotR once usurped WHFB before the movie bubble burst. There would have to be a significant return on the investment for it to be worth it for GW and I don't see that happening. Leaving extras like Consuls and Legion specifics, as well as "side" armies like Mechanicum and Custodes to FW means that the required returns aren't as vicious as they are for mainline GW products.

How are you quantifying it’s popularity though?

GW don’t, and have never, broken down their annual report by game system. And we’ve not had a 6m report including Heresy fully? The next is due 10 Jan, checking their Investor Relations website.

Because it doesn't have the broad appeal that AoS and 40k do.
In 40k there are currently 22 main armies, 11 Space Marine supplements, and numerous additional units/factions for various armies. In AoS there are 24 armies and 4 Grand Alliances which allow for further army-building shenanigans. HH has 6 armies, with the main army of the game having 18 supplement-level sub-armies, however, all but one of these armies are human. That doesn't appeal to people who want to play non-humans.
I mean just look back at the lengthy discussions had on this board where people said they didn't care about HH because it didn't have any Xenos factions and they would only play it if there were Xenos factions, which in turn got lots of HH people saying "There are no Xenos, that's the point".
And that's fine. Not every game needs to appeal to every single customer and while I obviously can't say exactly how popular HH is outside of my own local area, I can say with some certainty that it won't be popular enough to break away from FW entirely.

Given the alleged preponderance of SM sale’s compared to anything else 40K? I feel you may be working on wonky logic here.

Plus Heresy is hella cool

Again not arguing Heresy isn't cool, far from it. But it's a very restricted system when it comes to army choice and to a degree hobbyist freedom. Yeah, Space Marines sell more than everything else in 40k, but that doesn't mean the rest of the range doesn't exist. The rest of the range gives 40k that edge and I don't think we can say that Xenos factions aren't popular.

I wouldn’t be disappointed if characters remain in resin. But I would be surprised.

If that makes sense?

It makes sense but I'm not sure why you hold that belief when it's been made pretty clear that FW has the reigns for Characters and Legion units. The plastic characters that have been released are the exception to the rule with 2 being 6 years old and tied to a themed box game, 2 being tied to the theme of the Siege of Terra novels for the Black Library Celebration, and the remaining 4 being generic boxset mooks a further 2 of which are also 7 years old. In HH 2 we've had Sedras, Corswain, Lucius, at least 3 sets of themed Praetors, and 4 Assassins from FW to a total of one set of new plastic characters from GW.
In another 3 or 4 years, we might see another plastic Consul model but I would genuinely be surprised if one was in this next wave.
I'm not trying to be a gakhead here but it can't just be me that isn't seeing this as anything but wishful thinking rather than any sort of surety.

If you only ever work with plastics, kitbashing and converting is a totally valid option for creating unique HH Characters, in full glorious plastics no less! You only need to create a single miniature right?

The whole GW plastic range for bits is your oyster... I've seen very impressive bashes/conversions of plastic characters on /r 30k almost daily. Stop wishlisting and start operating doc, the surgical unit is waiting

Absolutely this.

I think it's easy to forget that if you're coming from 40k or you're new to the hobby that converting might not be so considered. I'd 100% recommended trawling Instagram and looking at event pictures. The range of things that can be done with just the plastic SM range is staggering.
