I am looking to get into another GW specialist game other than Kill Team or Warcry. Does anyone have any recommendations? Necromunda doesn't interest me.

At the moment, Aeronautica Imperialis interest me the most. But I am concern if it's one of those games that is going to be discontinued due to lack of popularity or something like that.

Blood Bowl, it survived being out of print for 20 years.

Yeah, probably BB, I still see people playing it at the local store, then maybe Necromunda or AT as a distant second. But I haven't actually seen anyone locally playing Necro recently, I used to see people playing AT prior to covid, not as much recently either.

Aeronautica Imperialis... I love the game but I think the current rules are fundamentally flawed in so many ways and it never really took off locally round these parts.

Battlefleet gothic, it always brings a smile to players faces when it gets mentioned even though it has not been supported in over a decade. BB is probably right up there as well but it isn't my type of game so i don't really follow it.

Middle-Earth. It's the second longest in print game they've had after 40k

Blood Bowl, Titanicus and Necromunda are all good and very different from each other. Setting up two forces for any of them to garner interest through demogames is also pretty trivial.

BB in particular isn't going away at any point, the playerbase has demonstratedly thrived even without GW support. I would vouch for Titanicus, if you have any interest in big robots punching each other, the system is great.

Blood Bowl is very, very popular and supported by a huge number of indipendent miniature producers.

Middle Earth SBG is technically not a Specialist game but is for sure the best ruleset GW can offer today. And it is my favourite by far.

If you are not interested in Necromunda I would suggest Adeptus Titanicus. Has a nice ruleset, fantastic models and offers a quite different experience of compared with other GW game systems

In terms of numbers I think necromunda, people spend a lot on that game. It gets more support than the other specialist games.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

In terms of popularity and how likely a currently available game is to be discontinued I would say Blood Bowl is most likely to stick around. That game was still getting tournaments in Europe with 4-500 people a decade after it stopped being sold officially, it is going nowhere. Perhaps Necromunda too, although you have said you're not interested in that one.

I'm not sure of GWs current business model and if current games will be no longer produced. Unlike the early 00s when they just got removed from sale and all trace of their existence erased from their websites, instead they will just stop releasing new material and miniatures. It feels like that is happening for some of the games already, while games like Warcry receive their 150th band of random chaos marauders? I'm not completely sure, I guess while stuff continues to sell they will probably keep producing it.

If you're not worried about stuff being 'in print' and are prepared to enter the world of proxy miniatures and 3D printing then the world is your oyster. Games like Epic and BFG are still very popular, have sizeable communities playing and keeping the rules accessible, even though there hasnt been an official release from GW in many years. I would start with the sort of game or setting you want to play and go from there!

From what is beeing made today, i would say bloodbowl or titanicus. titanicus gets less attension as it costs about the same as a regular aos/40k army, and avalibility is not nearly as good as BB. allso alot of hobby in the AT models so getting a single titan on the board takes some time.

Steer away from imperialis it is a realy poorly supported game, with over simplified rules compared to the original FW rules from 07. Heck the last 2 rules book are not even sold in many parts of the world as they are direct only. The only saving grace is the plastic planes, but when the rest is bad, it aint worth it. But you could get the models and play with the orginal FW rules, just need some work finding pdf for the manouver tools.

Of the discontinued games, 40k epic and battlefleet armageddon is the moust popular. Both games has ample of proxie modes for 3d print, some small firms even sells their 3d prints if you dont have a printer. Ruls are updated allso as the community for both games is quite active on the ball to fix the rules issues that was never fixed.

Underworlds is the most popular Specialist game in my area as well. Underworlds and Bloodbowl are probably GWs best written games, if you haven't tried either out, they are a step above other GW products imo.

I've not played blood bowl, but cannot agree more about underworlds. Just love a fame with a lower cost of entry, and not needing as much space and can be played in 30min.

Historically most popular? Blood Bowl.

Most updated? Necromunda, it got a lot of support last year and a campaign outside Hive Secundus.

Cult Classic that's very hard to find? Mordheim.

For up to date? Necromunda is a great place to start. It got new boxsets last year!

Aeronautica seems the most likely to be left out to dry. It still receives a bit of support here and there but they don't seem bothered keeping much in stock. You can't even buy the hex boards you literally need to play the game on anymore unless you look for a third party company to make one for you. Necrons being relegated to an annual book and not getting a proper supplement is a bad sign.

Underworlds shot it's feet too many times. People still buy the models for painting and AOS proxies but the game itself isn't what it was. You can still find groups for it here and there.

Titanicus seems moderately popular but new blood has started drying up due to the limited support it has been getting since the pandemic. Probable it could get a second edition soon now it has been out several years.

War Cry barely seems to keep its head above water any better than Aeronautica. You could easily find Black Friday sales of the big box and it isn't hard to find them despite being limited fomo items.

Kill Team 21 started slow but it seems to have replaced the niche Underworlds had of being a low model, decently balanced (for GW), competitive game.
