It's Kroot!


Not my image, but a great spot!

The bomb looks like a totem, so that would fit. But the the spear tips are decidedly elven in design.

Both could be well for the models coming with the T'au codex in Spring 2024.

If a man's allowed to dream for a moment, stuff might even point towards a soft launch of Exodites... some of their spears showing up on Kroot is something you can easily justify by the Kroot's mercenary nature, they could have received Exodite-made weapons as either payment or spoils of war (and promptly marked them with their runes)... a first step towards establishing an aesthetic for the Lizardy Boys.

They're all great knarlocs, Brent.

The runes look more like a Incubi/Witchblade crossover than Kroot runes. And the fitting of the tip on the wood is clearly elven and not Tau or Kroot - it is a 100% match with Khainite Shadowstalkers. So I am not convinced that these are Kroot.

They're literally on the Kroot Farstalker kit. It's Kroot.

The triangles have a different direction. Kroot: upwards/downwards. Aeldari: in direction of next rune.

edit: Ok, I see it now. It is not written from left to right like on the warband, but from top to bottom.

There is a curve to the "shaft" coming out of the head. I don't think it is meant to be something solid like wood, but instead flexible and mid-swing.

I reckon this is a weapon like a bolus, which would fit with Kroot (and Exodites for that matter, but I'm in favour of the runes matching the Kroot runes).

The most disappointing thing would be just a new Krootox with a bolt thrower and kroot gun option.

It'd be a lot more exciting if it's finally time for a bit more focus on the auxiliary side of Tau forces. Perhaps even with a 'flat bear' Nicassar in the Lord of War slot.

I'm conflicted. On the one hand I want to say that doesn't achieve much until it translates to models. On the other hand, if it's a chance for a big centerpiece model, it might actually make it to plastic. On the other, other hand, we already have giant Tau robots in the Tau army. Do we really need giant not-Tau robots on top of that, especially if one ends up inferior to the other?

Kroot are a nice thought. They actually stand a chance of getting kits and maybe more of an expansion than a single redone metal or resin unit. But I certainly hope at some point GW gets sick of all the Tau robots and goes back to making Tau an alien alliance. I mean, they brought Squats back, so it wouldn't even be the weirdest thing ever.

That all said, the writing doesn't look like what the Kill Team Kroot have to me. The Kill Team models seem very angular while the writing on the arrowheads seems to have more of a swing to it.

This morning it had the gall to transmit a picture of some disgruntled engineers complaining about a fictional machine on the internet.

While we get this sorted out, here’s an image from the stack we managed to siphon before the Engine got all judgy.

Makes me think it's something for Harbingers?

I'm at a loss though. Maybe it's a quick release of a new Skink ambusher hero, since that's a glaring omission in the book.

Possible- sometimes the text has no relation to the picture, sometimes it does, and Harbingers is one of the big things that is coming up soon to soon-ish. There are also a lot of weird things they could put in there, and the cloak certainly would not look out of place on e.g. a goblin, or an ogre or whatever.

Some Squigs, e.g. Mauler Squigs, have similar quills/horns, and that metal tag would not be a bad fit for gobbos.

Who knows, some of the Chaos Warhounds were spiky boys as well. I still think that's a Kroot skin, but i have no idea who would wear that It's also eminently possible that it's just a random cloak on any random figure, with no deeper thought behind it.

I'm just gonna go ahead and say it's a Chameleon Skink and Kroxigor Warspawned hero combo, with the Kroxigor having a massive bow.

There were rumors floating around about a new army/faction coming in 10th edition so it is very possible it’s a standalone Kroot sub faction or Exodites 👍
