This project looks great. I'm far too lazy to learn to paint landscapes myself, so I backed both books.

ENDS 5PM TODAY! Remember there is NO PLEDGE MANAGER for this, so if you want additional books, like the 32 page sci-fi book which has been unlocked, you must add it in the "Manage my Pledge" section of the KS.

Thanks Orlando for sharing the update!

Ends at 5pm! 90 mins from me typing this!
http://kck.st/46sAuKq

There isn't a pledge manager for this so if you wish to adjust your pledge you need to do it before it ends, you can add additional pledges in "manage my pledge" on KS

Some pics of the unlocked sci fi book - both books now 32 pages (above in Orlando's post)

I sent some painted minis to jon to test these out on test prints

Here's a pic of the first 24 of the first book too at one glance.

THANK YOU everyone who has backed and shared this, or just said it's cool. It's the first time myself and Jon Hodgson have worked together on a project and I can't see it being the last.

Congratulations on another successful campaign, Jon and Annie. This was one of those preternaturally-timed "just what I was thinking I needed" campaigns for me, for which it is tied with Mantic's "Alien Trees" KS campaign. When both are in my hands I'll try combining them.

Actually, that inspires a thought. Jon's painted backdrops seem to work best with a three-dimensional terrain piece in front (as opposed to, say, just a flat neoprene landscape mat.) A lot of hobbyists can make such terrain from foam and flock while blindfolded, but I suspect I'm not the only one who's never done it. Including some basic tips on that with the photography advice would be nice. If it's financially worthwhile, you might even consider selling some bespoke foreground terrain that works particularly well with the books or is made specifically to fit certain paintings in them.

Finally, with things winding up, I guess the Peeg Mimic won't be making an appearance? If not, no worries. I do think that model is a work of genius, though, and encourage anyone interested in a miniature of a muddle of guinea pigs masquerading as a single, human-sized post-apocalyptic warrior in a trench coat to check it out.

Thanks Banana! I might knock up a lil guide on making a rock thingy for the minis to stand on.

I didn't get the printed test samples of the sci fi book pages due to the short time limit, so no mimic photo-ed this time! It will make an appearance when it's ready to though

Dammit this is exactly the product I never knew I needed and now I have to wait over a year for the pre-orders to ship!

Anyone who missed the campaign can get pre-orders in. The sci-fi backdrops are really coming together.

@ ThePaintingOwl - I think Bad Squiddo may have a typo on their pre-order page. Handiwork says October 2023.

I just checked and it says 2023 all over Bad Squiddo, did I miss a typo somewhere else? Shipping is October 2023.

---
Jonny is busy painting the sci fi backdrops and additional unlocked fantasy ones, all running well on time. I'll soon be starting my photography guide which is a couple pages in there.

Here are some of the sci fi WIPs, I love all the moon ones but bottom right one is making me most inspired for some scavenger/ghoul schots.

If you missed the KS you can pre order them through here, also direct through Handiwork Games if you prefer.

Seems to be fixed now but https://handiwork.games/product-category/backdrop-books was showing October 2024 as the expected ship date. Good to know it's sooner!

Jealous that Horus is Warmaster

My books turned up today - lovely stuff. Good quality.
Below is my first attempts with em - just using my phone camera (pixel 6a) on my kitchen worktop, with books propped up against the wall, and just the lights of the room to light things, and results still look pretty good, so I think with some time and proper set up, these books will give great results. One very happy customer!

I’d not heard of Lucid Eye before, but doing some research it seems the miniature was indeed designed by Steve Saleh of Lucid Eye, so you were pretty much right! Good eye!

Damn, I'm bummed I didn't know about this as I would have hopped straight in for both books. Some of those backdrops really fantastic.

Couldn't see it on the KS page, but will this be available via retail at some point?

UPDATE 22ND JANUARY 2024 - SECOND KICKSTARTER!

We're officially launching on the 30th January, and anyone at Vapnartak in York, I'll bring some sample prints you can have a closer look at,

You can sign up now here
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jonhodgsonmaptiles2/jon-hodgson-backdrops-two-backdrops-boogaloo/

In these next 2 books you'll find 24 hand-painted landscapes professionally-printed and wiro bound into a practical book to use as backdrops for your photographs.

Each of the books we're kickstarting in this campaign have dual themes:
Ruins and Tunnels - which are broadly "fantasy" in character", but work for modern day settings too.
Sci-fi Ruins and Interiors - which are definitely "sci-fi" in character.

By popular demand we're also offering the two books from the first campaign in an A3 size. So that's:
Backdrops Book One A3 and Sci-fi Backdrops A3.

The content of these books will be very close to their original A4 counterparts. Most of the scenes in those books will work at a larger scale, but some will need some adjustment to make them work nicely when printed on a larger format. We will of course undertake that work should we fund, to ensure your A3 books are brilliant to use.

Please be aware, as we have said all along, these A3 books won't be cheap to ship, especially if you live outside the UK, but enough people have asked that we think it's worth doing!

Signed up and will keep an eye out for the next two books! After getting the first two, I think having some more interior and/or structure shots would be awesome!

Not quite sure I'd splurge for the A3 book since I have the regular on, but will be curious to see how it looks!

Fantasy armies - Retired (Tomb Kings, Vampires, Empire, Chaos Warriors/Daemons, Dark Elves)

Tyranids army - Ever evolving, but about 10k pts
Custodes - 3,500pts (Fully painted yay!)
Thousand Sons - 4,000 pts
Eldar - 3,000pts

Just popping in to say that I backed the previous Kickstarter and am very happy with the result. The books feature a variety of backgrounds of different color palettes and work well for their intended purpose.
