You're really getting some good prints with that 0.4 nozzle you must be really good at fine tuning those settings.

Dread looks great!
My experience with a filament printer just got me results that were not up to spec for mini scale details. The layer lines were just not good, resolution not there. But I might not have been using the right settings/hardware. I should get back to playing around with it…

Well, at least Emperor's Children had fun getting theirs.

I've been printing for about 9 months, I think; it's definitely a learning process. There are some things nobody tells you, like printing an object leaning backwards at 45 degrees prints better than fully horizontal. A Lot of random things to learn and I'm sure I only know a very small fraction right now.
gobert wrote:Nice job finishing up the Dread and his Armoury of arm! He looks great. Also impressive on the prints, I never got mine dialled in enough for minis
The type of mini is important, I think. Something with rounded details like an ork prints better than one with sharp details like a robot.

I know it’s a “me” thing, but it seems odd to see phobos marines in company colors. Just because I’ve exiled mine to the 10th company does not mean they are not battleline alternatives for every other marine player.
Looking sharp!

I'm never really sure what to do with mixed squads as far as markings. If you have a dreadnought in the 3rd company, do you put a 1st company or 3rd company roundel on it.
Totally-Not-Typhus is painted up. These are my test colors for my Death Guard. I'm thinking miasma should be green or purple and since Death Guard has so much green already, that leaves me with purple miasma. I also want more color on the bases, so I will be using those florescent alien plants with a dark brown swampy basing for a Garden of Nurgle look. Well, at least how I visualize the Garden of Nurgle as a riot of decay and growth. Well, this may be it for posts for a while as I get things painted up. Bye for now.

As far as I know, dreads are company level assets, so should always get markings to match what co they are with. The marine piloting/interred might have served in the 1st, but if they are fighting along side the 3rd, it should be red highlights and threes all around. IMHO, the lore fluff is a moving target. Vehicles are mostly chapter level assets, so have different rules, but the ones assigned to companies (like dreads and dedicated transports) can be odd.
The purple does look nice. I agree that the base could be a bit more colorful. Would contrast nicely with the drab green and bone of the marines. Maybe get some mushroom/fungi to scatter around? I generally think of Nurgle being wet, so the dry crackle base seems a little disconnected. A fun thing to do would be to focus the plants on the back half and around the feet of the minis. Like they are marching across a dry desolate lifeless plane, and leaving fecund vibrancy in their wake. Not as obvious for the small stuff, but would be more visible on larger bases. You could also play with water effects to highlight the difference.

Yeah, I used the crackled base because it was the only 50mm base I had. I also have recessed bases for water effects I'm considering using. This is what the other bases will be cover with along with some 3D printed plants and fluorescent tuffs. I'm using smaller versions of some the 3D garden plants I painted up on page 13.

Loving the not Typhus, he looks properly legit. The purple miasma works well too, personally I’d like to see it pop and glow a bit more to contrast the drab armour! Nevs idea of the dry bases becoming fecund and life filled as the Death Guard pass by. The plants look amazing in the last post too!

Thank you. they do need more color.
So, two more done. Death Guard really need more time to paint with all the weirdness going on with their gifts. Definitely don't want to paint a 2000 pts army of them.
Although, I have 3D printed about eleven of them this month with around 15 more plastic GW ones. I based them as I imagine what the Garden of Nurlge to looks like.
That is, a balance of decay and unnatural growth.

Always happy to spread the word of Grandpa. I'm still working on some of the colors. I switched to a very dark bronze on the armor; can't seem to get a true color image out of a digital camera.

Do you have a minute Sir?
Weary souls burdened with great sorrow
Who's life is now filled with dismay
Knowing not where to find peace and gladness
Have you talked to Nurgle today?
I was able to put together a Captain in gravis armor from what I had in my bits box and greenstuff.
It came out decent I think.

...and they're done.
The darker bronze on their pauldrons and backpacks does look better on them in person.
But they took a loooooog time to do and I'm a lazy painter. Did I mention I spent 20 minutes painting maggots. Right now I have about two dozen more of those little disease vectors on my desk.
I may need to switch back and forth between loyalist and these herpes knights to break things up.
I did order from AK Interactive, their French WWI armor paint set for those chimera proxies I made a while back, so I may work on them or some Incursors.
By the way, I working on a Death Guard chapter name. I'm thinking The Cohorts of Chlamydia?

A Mostly Renegades and Heretics blog.
GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH. |

With the Incursor squad finished, I think I may have just about every squad type from the Primaris range represented except Reavers and Suppressors.
So waiting on 11th now to see where to go next. I'm getting better with my new camera. I think I just need to figure out lighting next as the pictures are still over lighted.
There are some Saturnine terminators partly painted, but I may end up doing armor or terrain next.

This is my best impulse buy of 2025. I don't collect 30k, but I couldn't say no to the Saturnines.
They are very finicky models to put together with their ball joints on their legs. They also have three times the parts compared to regular terminators.
If Centurion War Suits don't go to legends, these guys will be proxies for them. Apologies for the bad pictures.

Thank you Jacka. I think I have all my core units painted now.
All the Saturnines are ready! I can use them for the next few months until all the Centurions go to legends in 11th!
I'm working on finding proxies for the Wardens of Ultramar right now. I think I have everything but the one ambassador figured out.
I'll probably mod out a Sisters mini.

I do have the Imperial Agents Kill team, but I would have to re-base them from 25mm to 32mm for this project.
So after two days of searching, I was unable to find any of my Imperial Guard psykers, so I'm converting a Privateer Press mini for one.
I also found a female bounty hunter to use for the ambassador and a female Imperial Guard officer for the PDF commander and finally a old metal naval officer conversion I did years ago for, well, a naval officer.
My two day search wasn't a complete waist, as I did find my old metal Calgar in terminator armor. I also found 18 metal unpainted Legion of the Damned minis (I didn't know I had that many) to go with the 10 or so painted ones. So I may have found a future project much later in the year.
