Not sure if this is the best place to put it, but I figure it's as good as any.

Apparently, this guy is getting a MTO/Reissue or something that would put him back in production:



How I came across this information, is due to a gak-up back in December/Feburary. See, they ran an MTO of this guy back in December of 2022, and I ordered one alongside a GSC Biologis. It was delayed by a couple months, and when i called in to ask about it, they said the Biologis was Out of Stock, and would be a for a while. No problem, i just told them to refund me for the Biologis, and send me the captain. They did so, and I figured things were set. Wait a week, and when the box arrived at my door, it was... the Biologis? The one that was out of stock? I emailed them again, and after chatting with the support person, essentially I had them refund me the captain as well, and just called it done, since it was mid-feburary, and there was no way they had any left.

Well, when i checked my email this morning, there was a email from GW, telling me the captain had shipped out... the one they had refunded me because he wasn't going back into production. I double checked everything and it seemed in order.

I'll update the thread again when it gets here, and see what's up. Maybe it's the old guy, maybe it's a new captain mixed up, I dunno!

Sounds like just a mixup to me.
I had an issue with getting Fulgrim from forge world via my local GW store.
I was sent an email that my order was being shipped to the store and I had to contact them for when it arrived. Normaly this is about a week minimaly, so 2 weeks later I got around to give them a call.
The manager told me they had not recieved my order yet, but did ask my to forward the email I got. The next day a recieved an email from GW with an appolegy and weather I would like my order resend or a refund.
I choose a resend of my order, after all I had no rush to get it.
A week later my Primarch model arrived fine and dandy.
Que two weeks later I recieve an other email the my replacement order has been sent free of charge.
A week later another Fulgrim arrived. The store manager said I could keep it.
So I got a free 95 euro model out of that.
Sometimes clerical errors can be fun.

It's definitely a mixup, the weird thing is that this is an OOP model, which means there's either a new captain on the way, or this guy is getting redone.

Or they had some left over after fulfilling the original MTO. You're most likely reading into this way too much.

Very likely but think about how funny it would be if he got a new primaris captain like a guy ordered the old dante and got the new one before he was revealed

Any time they do a Made to Order, they'll have a certain additional amount made (maybe somewhere between 2.5% and 5% at a guess) and kept aside for Customer Services purposes – so they can replace any that get lost in the post, or which arrive damaged, or whatever. I'm sure there are other checks in the process, one of which has (somewhat belatedly) identified that your order never went out, and they've rectified that. It's a shame you had to wait, but reassuring they realised the mistake in the end and got one out to you.

Welp, box got here, it's the old one, complete with 7th edition rules printed on the instructions. It's also in that fancy new generic packaging. It's strange, but there we go.

My and others MTO for the 2 Cursed City expansions took 6 months to fulfill and we got reports of likely extra stock from the run showing up at retail locations shortly after.

I suspect their Made-to-Order fulfillment system and their CMS systems do not talk to each other very well. Your order got added to the MTO system when you ordered. When they canceled your order and refunded you in the CMS system, the cancellation never made it to the MTO queue. So they made your model and shipped it to you. By the time this went to the CMS system, they just let it go out free because trying to charge you at this point would cost more (staff time) than it was worth.
