This month the topic is “Renewal”. Reborn, returned, recycled. A fresh start. Lot of different ways this can be interpreted. Changing of the seasons and the rebirth of spring. A fresh start with a new life. Rising from the ashes like a Phoenix. Or a necron. Also could be literal and physical, if you are upcycling old bits/parts/trash into a new creation.

As always, you're free to hand out as many votes as you like, and for any entry you feel deserves recognition, based on anything from technical proficiency ro model choice, a neat conversion or a cool take on the theme, or anything else! You're also very welcome to leave some feedback here for the entrants, and many of the images click through to the Dakka gallery if you'd like to give out a vote or two there as well.

Struggling about in Asmos territory.

My 5 votes (yeah sorry guys that's my rule! ) go to from my most impressed by to lesser (so to speak, because voting for them still says I am impressed)

Mothsniper - Malachite Slayers
These dwarfs look as if you could buy them in a toystore, so well painted they are. I also really like the softness of the colorscheme, nothing contrasts harshly, and the gold is exceptionally well done imho!

ms07b3 - GSC
I really like the green moss residu on the tires and the idea to put sisters on motorcycles is sweet, gives me a madmax vibe. The paintjob is very detailed and it emediately shows a lot of work was put into it.

Mr Nobody - Ork Deffkoptas
I'm suprised by the original sculpt holding these up, very cool, also like the sponged paintdamage, personally never seen bad moon koptas before and am emediately sold on it. (pun)' It's a wildly effectively painted entry.

Midget Gems - Grot tanks
Though I find the green a bit too saturated on the grots, I can see how much work has been put into this entry, from linework to rust to all the added dakka so it would be a disservice not to give a vote for this, the olive army green on the big tank is a treat and really well washed.

Nevelon - Ballistus
It was hard to pick for my fifth spot because I feel like the body lacks weathering and lining detail (and if there is, its hard to see) but the lights are so minty, and the base is fantastic. All around this is a VERY clean and faultless paint which could easily be box-art.

Some great entries this month, well done everyone!

Uptonius - cool pose and the skin tone is excellent.

Kalkyrie – two very different paint schemes but very interesting style.

Pariah Press - Love these old models and the scheme looks great. That splash of blue is a great touch.

ms07b3 - Great colour scheme and the blue lights are great.

Mothsniper - these absolutely rock! The weapons are particularly superb.

Geifer - he's a horrid looking fella and fits the theme perfectly.

Syro_ - Mamon is manky one! I like his horrible tub.

inmygravenimage - these are great miniatures, the purple dress is really nice.

Daia T'Nara - As always Daia, your filthy little creations are great to see and will always get a vote!

Leopold Helveine - very cool piece indeed, nice dark colour scheme does a lot for the miniature.

youwashock - such a brilliant concept and a great paint job. Really nice work!

theCrowe - Love these Dwarves, the miner with the candle is great.

Vejut - this is a great model, the staff and the icon is brilliant.

JoshInJapan - love these skellingtons. Excellent paint job, the bases are really nice.

Captain Brown - Great stuff CB! Lovely bright scheme that works beautifully on these older minis.

KidCthulhu – A very cool mini, love the body paint, definitely looks like a demon bride.

Nevelon – a lovely looking Ultramarines dread Nev!

Pursuit Of Happiness - very baller looking Chaplain, looks ready to kick some heretical butt!

Jadenim - some very nice orcs, nice work on the skin tone and the armour.

Tallandra – a mighty ye olde Vindicator indeed. The 4th company green (is that right?) looks excellent!

Midget Gems - excellent mix of kits here, the best thing about Orky convertin' is your ability to use anything you like! Great paint job to boot!

Maharg - a beauty of a mini and a bone colour is really nice. The turquoise is a great touch, really makes it pop.

Mr Nobody - Great work on the yellow, it's dark and gritty and that's my favourite style of mini painting! Great job.

TheChrispyOne - Da Orknissiah will be impressed with this! So am I, nice work!

ZergSmasher - I know you said you ran out of time at the end but it's a solid effort all the same. Great work with the banner!

Phew! Think I got the lot. Good luck everyone!

Lots of great entries, and as always congrats to everyone who entered something.
My three favourites this month (in no particular order):

ms07b3: I like everything about these. Simple (or at least you make it look simple) conversions that work really well. Subtle enough to still be recognizable right away while still giving it a different feel. Plus a good and well done colour scheme.

youwashock: Really cool and really gritty rendition of the Hulk. Idea and implementation, pose and paintjob, just great all over. And a big thumbs up on getting the blood and gore done so well.

Olthannon: The models are great, and you did a very good job with them. Lots of different colours for the different models, but it works well for each of them as well as the group as a whole. Only thing sticking out a bit is the bright green from the spider-gobbo, but with this kind of freak show I don't really see that as a negative at all.

Here are the entries which stood out to me most. I'm a relatively novice painter attracted by shiny things, so don't take my opinions too seriously!
If I didn't mention you, your model was probably too good for my basic tastes

ms07b3 - Wonderful concept here, backed up by a great colour scheme and effects. I particularly like the 'flavour' inherent in all of the models. They look like individuals, not identikit models in a unit. Would be perfect for a small scale unit game (Necromunda et al). Full of character.

Mothsniper - My favourite of the challenge. Clean pastel colours, wonderful effect on the axes, and can be clearly identified on a battle table. Clean and beautiful.

Daia T'Nara - I just love this colour scheme. Seeing cream and gold on a Chaos model is such a refreshing change. And the drider-like conversion is such a cool idea that I haven't seen since some Cryx in Warmachine. The base is also great to look at - I particularly like the colour scheme of the white and pink sister on the base.

Leopold Helveine - It's a Ork conversion with hints of Tau battlesuits. What's not to like?

Captain Brown - This looks straight out of a White Dwarf. Which is amazing for the notoriously hard Harlequin colour scheme!

Nevelon - Again, looks straight out of a White Dwarf. Or a pro-painters portfolio.

Pursuit Of Happiness - I just like this model. Can't put my finger on it, but it just looks clean and iconic.

Jadenim - Wonderful models, brought to life in a clean and clear colour scheme.

Midget Gems - Cool conversions, full of character!

Olthannon - I am a sucker for bright colour schemes, and brilliant conversions. And this has hordes of both.

Mothsniper, you're my absolute favourite of the round, but... haven't you got far too many models there? Or was the model limit relaxed after the first post in the entry thread and I just missed it?

Thanks - honestly the whole shape of the conversion was just a matter of whatever parts I had to hand, I'm glad it turned out coherent. That white/pink scheme is in the midst of being rolled out onto all my chaos sisters, after being used in a few of these contest entries - I was doing the regular Sororitas white and cold green, to try something other than the typical 'Slaanesh = pink', but on consideration, it's a cliche because it works (luckily there's only half a dozen or so that need repainting).

As always, many votes were given, congrats all!

Uptonius: Great conversion, between the paint and the alterations he looks like he was meant to be an Iron Warrior.
Kalkyrie: Two very different looks, both very cool. I particularly like the ‘hot’ one, just looking at it I can imagine the shimmer of the superheated air around it.
Pariah Press: I’m a sucker for retro, but they look wonderful even without that bias.
ms07b3: I like the colour scheme, vivid but not cartoony.
Mothsniper: Love the rich colours and fine highlighting in the beards and hair.
Geifer: Great skin (and tentacle-skin) colouring, the look of the tentacle bursting out is so visceral.
Syro_: Yuck (in a positive sense), he looks like a real juggernaut (not the Khorne kind).
inmygravenimage: Great use of restrained colours, particularly the lady doing the power walk, shadowy but none of the detail is obscured.
Daia T’Nara: Let’s just look on the bright side that our bits box is now devoid of dildos.
Leopold Helveine: A proper brutally Orky monstrosity.
youashock: Very attention-grabbing, the gore is spot on.
theCrowe: A very characterful bunch, I like how they each have their own look but fit together as a group.
Vejut: Great highlighting on the cloak, and the grey/black on the snout and ears.
JoshInJapan: More of your characteristic wonderful shading, they look so tactile (I know they literally are physical objects, but you get what I mean?), great rust too.
Captain Brown: Great sharp, bold colours, they look like proper Harlequins but not stepping over the line into wannabe Noise Marines (I was never very good at staying on the right side of that line).
KidCthulhu: Love the rich red and yellow of the dress contrasted against the dark skin and hair.
Nevelon: Great work on those wide blue surfaces, they look clean and crisp but there’s enough definition that they’re not at all toyish.
Pursuit Of Happiness: One of my favourites this month, the bone stands out excellently against the black armour.
Jadenim: Love the skin tones, and the wear at the edges of the armour.
Tallandra: I adore anything built on the classic Rhino frame, really nice work texturing those huge side panels particularly.
Midget Gems: Oh they’re adorable, I love the contrast between all the realistic grime and wear in the paintjobs and the cute chubby proportions of the vehicles.
Maharg: Great work on the bone, I can practically feel how dry and dusty it is.
Olthannon: Such a wonderfully detailed bunch, excellent work picking out every bit of interest in such involved sculpts.
Mr Nobody: Very well done meshing the rich yellow with all the roughness of the worn metal.
TheChrispyOne: Classic improvised Ork tech look, the little bits of chipped decorative red are a great tough.
ZergSmasher: I love the deep green armour contrasting with the pale robe, it’s a classic Dark Angel look and you sold it very well.

Personally not familiar with Tau but thanks for liking my entry!!, It's definately a battlesuit rather than an ordinary deff dread.

Great work all, I voted early one morning and can't remember the entries I picked It was a tough call loads of cool mini's.

Those are the same five dwarfs, they are just swapping axe's / throwing them around to each other and catching them, it makes them appear like there are more of them than there actually are... honest.

Thanks for the comments

As always, fun month and great work from everyone. Congrats to the winners, and everyone who joined the battle victorious against the Pile of Shame.

<put on the Official Hat>
This month we had a couple rules violations. I’m not going to be mean and DQ anyone. We are here to have fun. Between my vacations last month and last week, I’ve not been on top of things as well as I should, so some of the fault is mine. But if you have more than 5 models or 6 pictures, please trim your entry to the best of them before submitting your final entry. Please don’t make me be the bad guy.

Month is half over, so get painting for Some Like it Hot! I just put my first basecoat down last night /slacker.

Thanks very much to everyone who voted for my wee gobbos. They were very well received at my D&D session and sadly the brave adventurers ruthlessly slaughtered the lot of them. Their dream of a fungal world domination sadly gone

Congratulations to Mothsniper, MidgetGems and ms07b3!
