I like the Sang priest, much more than the current robed priest, but the one now available is actually almost as large as a primaris, so I was sure they would keep him.
As brother Corbulo is known for his minimalistic and uncermonial appearance, it makes sense the other Sanguinary Priests look to him for inspiration.

Yes the one that says the whole deathwatch schtick - specialised mix of armour and equipment for a mission, to the extent they built an entire board game around it - is no longer an option. So you can break your squads up, paint up extra to use them as bike/assault/terminator squads and correct any unit markings you applied. Yep all that.

I assume the "contraction" of the deathwatch is temporary. It's part of GWs business model at this point for the smallsr factions and fringe interests. Give it another edition or two and GW will rerelease the Deathwatch as a standalone faction with a whole new distinct model range.
It's a way of forcing churn and creating pent up demand. The majority of those who are interested in DW have them already, so how do you get them to buy it again AND create interest from more people? You cut it back and take a lot of it away and let it simmer on the back burner, then one day a few years down the line you announce it as the hot new thing with a bunch of new kits and hot new rules. Most of those who already had deathwatch dive in and mostly revamp their existing collections, and a bunch of new folks dive into them as the hot new thing too.

I'd feel bad but I'm still in the process of correcting them applying NMNR to my basic Skitarii variants, doubling the max unit size, and then now setting them to static unit sizes. You're playing an army now. You've lost the ability to effectively keep playing Formations editions after they dumped them. Welcome to the Modern Day!

I doubt it's so cynical. GW has never known from one edition to the next what DW should be, so they opted to scrap it altogether. maybe they figure something out in a few editions, but i prefer this to them trying a yet different distinct ruleset that only kinda works

I prefer having an "agents" book that includes the deathwatch. Unlike GK and Sisters they never deployed entire companies/battleforces/armies of Deathwatch to my knowledge. It's pretty rare for GK as well but they have a fair number of historical applications of them deploying in a multi-company deployment and unlike DW are an actual fully functional chapter in their own right.
This works and they won't have to try so HARD like they did for years since that one cool WD unit ages ago came out

Im.thinking maybe there wasn't any incentives for new DW models this edition?
Infernus are monopose with sculpted pads.
Desolation Marines could fit somewhere maybe.
No model no rules, and use what's in the box kinda killed this faction. As is the 0-2 and 0-4 restrictions left models off the table.
And how many different detachments could we really come up with? I'm curious.

I don't like that the Apothecary's narthecium doesn't have a drill/chainblade. Relying on a servo skull to get through power armour is dumb.

My dude, there's no "think" about it? Skitarii 100% suffer, simply because of the design studio's seeming inability to actually decide what they want the army's units to be. They refuse to add back the differentiating roles for the Rangers and Vanguard and they refuse to acknowledge that they screwed up by allowing both units to take all the special weapon options(Transauranic, even in most of their own marketing stuff, never appears on the Vanguard) initially. They painted themselves into a corner and refused to correct it.
I should add that I didn't say I'm glad about it, or that the Deathwatch needs to suffer but if you want me to?
Yeah. They need to be brought into line with literally every other army out there. The army, in its initial version in 7E, was what it is claimed to be: elite with specialists. You had the option to take single bikes, Terminators, and Vanguard Veterans and they'd operate separately unless you chose to utilize a Formation. Automatically Appended Next Post: xttz wrote:

What do you really add to them though?
Deathwatch, as a faction, are literally "Marines with a different shoulderpad and paintjob". The Veteran Kill Team has their unique stuff(Infernus Heavy Bolter, Frag Cannon, Xenophase Blade, etc)...but it's a self-contained unit.

That wasn’t the Deathwatch’s thing until said board game and they’ve struggled to make it work in 40k ever since.
In their original incarnation they were just the veteran Kill Team, much closer to as now.

Was this before they had an actual army? Because my point was the gk went from a squad of termies to an army but had references to full army deployments and was a full standing marine chapter prior to expansion. The other ordo army started as an actual army, got rolled back into an ordo book, and then spun back out as it's own army. Original fluff until the first deathwatch army book released if I remember right was that they were just solo kill teams. Granted that doesn't take into account the RPG fluff since I never played it and can't really remember the timelines of it's release vs. the full deathwatch book.

But then again, any imperial force would be far better suited to handle a threat like that, rather than lining up squads of veterans, all wielding their very special piece of wargear.

I for one love the new BA characters, and I have no intention of starting a BA army, like, ever. The models are really nice though, particularly the Sanguinary Priest.
