Splitting the Iron Warriours of of the CSM dex and adding yet another codex to the lineup seems like an extremely bad idea.

So CSM will be Night Lords, Black

If GW want to continue making legion specific kits like Night Lords got, I could see the non-god specific legions get the codex supplement treatment. It allows GW to get away with only making a small number of kits per legion (not that World Eaters and Emprah's Kiddies drowned in kits or anything) and sell everyone an extra book. Sounds like the logical next step now that the god specific legions are all out of the vanilla codex.

But they wouldn't sell everyone an extra book? They'd only sell "Iron Warriors players" an extra book.
Maybe they think there would be the demand if they stimulated it - but it seems kind of niche.

They would sell an Iron Warriors book to Iron Warriors, yes, but the assumption is there will also be an Alpha Legion supplement for Alpha Legion players, and so forth. If there's one thing we know it's that GW is not going to hesitate making extra books. They love selling extra books.
The limiting factor so far has been how willing they are to make a kit or two for each legion. In the past that didn't happen outside the god specific legions unless you go way back to to the time of metal characters and 3rd ed upgrade sprues. But since the Night Lords Kill Team upgrade it doesn't look like that's necessarily the case any longer.

The feasibility of an Iron Warriors supplement kinda depends on an Iron Hands supplement, doesn't it? Unless they're going to have enough unique units (think Dark Angels or Blood Angels for scale) a whole separate book doesn't make sense.

Ahhh bless you all. We've seen GW is willing to slice and dice chaos, give a token gesture of a release and say "wasn't it great!" Repeatedly at this point.
The best outcome is that it's a dark mech/iron warriors blend codex with vashtorr and some fun stuff in.
Worst outcome they take all the "iron warriors" units out of chaos space marines, hard lock units to both and release a couple of new kits nobody wanted.

Could be a mix. Stand alone for the God-aligned Legions since they're the most different, then supplements for Iron Warriors, Word Bearers and Alpha Legion (and maybe Red Corsairs?).

Why am I quoting myself, perhaps the most cretinous of online activity?
Well, GW got back to me and a replacement is on its way.
Figured given the super exclusive nature of the WH+ models, it was worth sharing GW’s replacement policy remains the same. Specifically, that I don’t have to return to Squished one.
How squished was it?

Thinking about it more, with Perturabo, Vashtorr and the Dark Mech combined might be enough just justify a 5th book if the latter two are going to struggle for a full codex release.

Nonsensical, so in keeping.
Also, still a better name.
Doesn’t mean it’s the best name of course. Automatically Appended Next Post: I mean, Spack Handy Choptubes is arguably more nonsensical, and an obscure pop culture reference.

Well I feel GW have made it so 25% going on 50% (when they are good) of the playerbase plays or has a Marine army.
As a result you can sort of... split that up, and still get subfactions that have a playerbase comparable to regular factions.
I don't know if thats true for CSM - especially after you've carved off TS/ DG/ WE/ EC etc.
GW want to sell new models - so maybe "Dark Mech with Iron Warriors" is a cool concept they can design and sell. The new playerbase doesn't have to reflect the old player base. Lots of people started Death Guard armies in say 8th that never expected to collect DG etc.
But if GW just released "here's codex Alpha Legions, it just the CSM codex with a new character, some units painted up Alpha Legion colours" - I feel you are looking a niche market. Smaller I'd argue than BA/ DA etc.

(Chaos) Space Marine is the core of GW's business and has too much brand recognition to change. Even during GW's post-Chapterhouse frenzy where they changed all manner of titles, they didn't touch Chaos Marines. Heretarts didn't make it further than the subtitle. Same for loyalists.
Dark Mechanicus is effectively a new army that has had little exposure in the past decades and the most modest following at best. Much like Squats Leagues of Votann. If GW think they'll get more out of a novelty name like Vashtorr's Varied Vehicular Vorkshop & Vriends, and chances are they do, Dark Mechanicus doesn't stand a chance of making it on a codex cover.
