I keep looking longingly at it, but the lack of range on its weapons concerns me greatly.
Lovely kit.
But if I got one it'd just sit on the shelf as we barely play large enough games to allow in the Reaver.
This is entirely my fellow players fault as they've yet to buy enough models.
And I play exclusively Solar, they play SM + have zero interest in Solar. So it's not even like I could loan them models (I have enough Solar to field a Warmaster as ally).
Still, I might pick one up to avoid the inevitable price hike that'll happen before my foes buy enough models....
As for its range?
I'm not worried about it. Were I to play one I'd figure out how to make it work.
Besides, do you realize how much range my Solar would be bringing to a game big enough to allow in a Warmaster??

True enough. I’m in love with the model, and if nothing else, the sheer fear factor will have a good effect on the game.

Cheers for the information. And bugger... got around to building some dreads today and was irritated to find that only half of them can be built with twin las.
This is part of the reason we don't play WYSIWYG and just go through loadouts for units before the game.
With dreads it's an easy one, as I don't think I've ever come across anyone who has used assault cannons with them.

I tried it once, they were kind of useful for thinning out infantry, but you have to get them so close that it makes them pretty vulnerable to a charge. And unless you’re in great numbers, it’s very easy to be overwhelmed.

Sorry if discussed previously.
But with Leman Russ variants? I’m wondering if Predators might get the same treatment.
At release, I figured limited turret options were a reflection of the rules not have the design space to reflect relatively subtle differences on such a scale of battle. Then…they did the Leman Russ turrets, so rethinking my own logic on this one!
I wouldn’t say no, myself. I’ve two sets each of the Sicaran sets, so have a good range of possible combinations to wheel out.

Possibly add a Plasma weapon otherwise I think as a guess that the Predators will likely stay with the current weapons

I think that’s a safe bet, there’s the plasma variant, the flamer one, and the conversion beamer one in the 28mm kit.

If you want to buy rather than go the printing route, Mighty Minis do these in both traitor and loyalist options. I painted mine up in Legion colours

Nice.
Today’s additions, two boxes of Sabre Strike Squadrons.
Gonna do 8 Autocannon, 8 Neutron Thing. It does look like you could make them swappable, but I cannot be arsed.
Also need to decide whether I want to give them Heavy Bolter or Multi-Melta auxiliary Dakka. I’ll probably do four of each, give every squadron a bit of flexibility.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Actually, might just go with Heavy Bolters for that handy dandy defensive fire. Plus I worry the 6” range on the Multi-meltas is prohibitively short.
Here, have a pic.

My main question: are they as cute as they look like they are size-wise on the box?
I'm probably going for a squad of 6, neutron cannon for tank hunting duties and HBs for point defence while doing so - I think that will make more difference protecting them from infantry defending the tanks than the MM (which is effectively point blank range)

If the others have Assault Cannons, they very much meet my “visually distinct” rule so I’d be good with it

Slowly learning the various special rules.
I guess what I should do is cobble together a list made up from my painted stuff, then do myself a cheat sheet of their traits, and focus on those.

The jury seems to be out for WYSIWYG for this game. From my own experience most people I've played don't adhere to it for sponsor/turret variants. I personally think it's unreasonable to be able to identify a 4mm long sponsor turret on a tank from across a tabletop, so always go through army lists before a game starts is easier. That's been the format of events I've played at too - Ingtaer certainly using those as last variants would be fine from my experience.
Speaking of events have one coming up where they are looking at scoring from turn 3 (taking a leaf out of Epic Armageddon's book). Will stop the turn 1 scrum of everyone mashing together on the objectives and the game being generally over by turn 2, and hopefully give the opportunity for some more subtle tactically play - I like the idea, will have to see how it goes.

Eh, as ever, it’ll depend.
Outside of strict WYSIWYG, I’d be ok with “all my Predators have Heavy Bolter Sponsons, all my Kratos have Heavy Bolter Sponsons, but all my Sicarans have Lascannons”, regardless of what they’re modelled with.
There, the design of the tank is my clear Visual Cue.
What I would draw the line at is all Predators in your army being modelled with Lascannons, but squadrons A and B actually having Heavy Bolters, or a mix in the squadrons, unless they’re appropriately modelled.
Clear, visual reference, that’s what’s needed. At a glance I can tell the difference between the existing Lascannon/Heavy Bolter sponson, because they’ve noticably different shapes when painted.

Absolutely - there is a big part of the 'social contract' element here, in that you want to be as conscientious and thoughtful to your opponent as possible, and messing around with mixed/unrepresentative weapons loadouts is not very fair to your opponent.
But, in the same way that new apartments are built with a single shared parking space between multiple houses, some things can be built or designed in such a way as to cause disagreements and this is one of them.
Recognising a weapons loadout at arms length is one thing, at 4-5 feet away another. I have near to 20/20 vision (tested recently as I get them regularly for my job) and I can't unless it's made really obvious - am I supposed to use binoculars, get into character as the commander?
So this is why it's become standard at events (or at least the two I have attended, haha) to go through army lists with your opponent before the game. WYSIWYG is not practical at this scale.
* To stand on a soap box for a moment, in my view this is just one of the worst design elements of Legions, along with the scoring/objectives system. You had the absolutely wonderful system used by Armageddon - I chatted to one of the designers of the game a while ago and was told it was an 11th hour idea by Jervis Johnson that *made* the game work - and that system step forward been completely ignored in favour of page-long, mixed unit profiles for fecking 8mm miniatures - it's absolutely insane

Biggest issue there for me would be Plasma Marines. Even a glow effect didn’t properly standout, so I painted the base rim in the same colour.
Not just so my opponent can clearly spot them from across the board, but so can I, as typically I’ll be viewing them from the rear!

Base rims in different colours is a great idea - and was, I think, how we had to do it in First Edition Space Marine. (Luckily with Dark Angels, the plasma glow stands out a bit more - harder work for an Ultramarine player).
WYSIWYG is going to be difficult for anything beyond main/turret weapons. A bit of give and take is to be expected. We'll soon spot the players who use it to gain some sort of advantage. #TFG

Speaking of base colours, should/do people paint the rims in different colours to differentiate between formations or use some other method?
I gather there is quite a lot of contention around distinguishing formations (needed because of breakpoint) so wonder how people deal with it.

Still building up the collction - but so far the plan is to have no duplicate detachments in formations (no predators, sicarans or Kratos in my Demi Legio) or have another legion on the table (My Demi Legio is Dark Angels whereas my Garrison Formation is Imperial Fists). I also like the 'combined arms' look of an army on the tabletop.
