i find myself thinking the same
i mean, if its a plan to move more merch, it feels like a new tv show or something would have worked better
and eventually redoing all the movies feels like it would get expensive fx wise in the long run
Same reason as Disney has been doing remakes of animated stuff into live action. You’ve an existing audience which will mostly come see it, and it might attract a new audience (remember, some adults still have the misconception animated = kids)

It seems some people think the fictional island people with a mild viking aesthetic were real historical people and having fits that Astrid is being played by a young non-white woman. It gets even stupider when you remember that Astrid's VA was America Ferrera.

This is weird. This looks like a shot for shot remake of the cartoon. At which point... why?

Definitely seemed like a skeletal/emaciated Cillian Murphy rising out of the flowers. Both previous movies were fun, though the first is the better product in my opinion. Not a Kipling aficionado, but I never thought a Kipling poem could be so creepy.

"Sometimes the only victory possible is to keep your opponent from winning." - The Emperor, from The Outcast Dead.
"Tell your gods we are coming for them, and that their realms will burn as ours did." -Thostos Bladestorm
Anya Taylor Joy and some guy star as two snipers guarding two ends of a gorge that may be the gate to hell. The trailer shows just a little bit too much in the last few seconds, but otherwise it looks pretty good.

Zombies are easy enemies in so much as you can hate them and kill loads of them and no one complains.
Personally I'd love to see fantasy/ancient times zombie films. Ergo the time before machine guns and when bows and arrows are powerful but don't have the same "I blew your brains apart" power that guns have.
If the blurb under the video is accurate, at least they have the decency to make it an original story and not a remake:
Taking place 18 months after the events at the UNEEDA Warehouse in Louisville, KY, a new Trioxin 2-4-5 leak puts a small Pennsylvania town on the brink of a zombie outbreak during Christmas, 1985.
And this bit isn't terrible either:
The filmmakers promise a BLOODY STUNNING new chapter, made with NO CGI and all PRACTICAL FX.
They could do worse than that and to make a sequel to the original that disregards the four sequels (of varying quality) that exist.
Still, that's one hell of a classic to live up to, especially if they're going to make it a period piece. By now the 80s have been romanticized to meme levels and it's hardly trivial to get the feel to line up with an original 80s movie.

That would be cool. But, with a lower population density and a high proportion of farm work and other physical labourers? The Zombies, outside of a religious hook to it, may not last long. Because those folks don’t just have tools and that, but know how to use them safely.
