I'll be happy if a normal sized model (40mm base or smaller) ends up winning even a single category but I'm not going to hold my breath in that regard as the expensive big honkin' dioramas masquerading as models typically dominate the voting.

I specifically didn't vote Vhordrai because of the lack of generic lord in the kit. It annoys me to no end. Instantly iconic model, but I'm so sour about what the kit lacks.

Same way I feel about Ionus Cryptborn and his dragon, which is even more limited in build options.

AoS was a tough choice because nothing really appealed to me. So I went with the ork tower
"The rest" was a tough choice because there was a lot of awesome stuff there, necromunda really has some great sculpts, Horus Heresy has more interesting marines than the whole 40k range, and even blood Bowl has fun stuff.
In the end I went with the Thanatar even though it's not even a new mini, but I just love that design.
The 40K list showed that GW once again makes too many Marines. I went with the halflings, they have a lot of character, I even hesitated to get them even though I'd have no use for imperial models.

Maple Highgrove? I specifically didn’t vote for him because he’s apocalyptically awful to assemble.

I appreciate that they up put pictures alongside the names so you can actually see what you're voting for. Definite and welcome improvement over past years.

40k for my was easy. I voted for the only model I bought and actually painted, Lysander.
AoS was kind of easy as well, but maybe not entirely fair. The Hashut melee infantry was the kit that stood out to me the most this year. Not necessarily because it's the best in some regard, but because it's that got a positive reaction out of me that I remember even months after the reveal.
Other was perhaps the most competition, but it's hard not to vote for the Tomb Kings herald.

Its rare to see anything from a smaller game get "good" competetive rules in the main games (AoS or 40k).
Its a nice thing to have rules for narrative purpose, and is not intended for more.

Like last year the new year pricelist is out early and Maggotkin are next. Looks like the Darkwater stuff could be direct only unless it's a later release.

Cursed City villains were direct only and so expensive it was a better deal just to get the whole game. I'd expect the same with this.

Not that I've seen. The reveal show was so damn unwatchable that I can't remember if they showed them. But there was a brief description in the reveal article:

A set of warscroll cards let you reference key rules without leafing through the battletome mid-game, and a set of pale green dice with brown pips keep the rotten vibe going.

Doesn't sound like anything crazy like those rubbery diseased dice from a few years back.

Nice to hear that it's relatively balanced right now. Although it's pleasing that war machines can no longer hide.

I will never understand why GW has to give characters on large mounts massive chairs to ride on.

That said that's probably one of the best looking covers in a very long time for AoS!

In this instance, it kinda fits the the very blocky, bulky aesthetic of the Cities of Sigmar, but yeah, classic Eltharion had a bonkers chair.

Eltharion still had a saddle, just with a high back support. New trend is building a throne on top of a flying beast. And it dont even have a safety belt!

Yeah see if it was a walking land beast like an elephant or larger a throne works. Those big warbeasts that ogres ride - yeah thrones work on them.

But a big feline that has to take into the skies to fly - or a dragon. I've never understood the need for a huge armchair on them. Or the insanely high backed ones the elves have cause all I can think is that as soon as the dragon takes flight it gets a massive drag because its got a huge vertical sail sticking up

Just want to call attention to this, as people may have missed that there's been an update here - instead of a "while stocks last" online release on Jan 10th, the article has been updated to say that they will arrive on the online store on Jan 17th, but as a Made to Order release.

Local store manage told me this, as apparently there was enough feedback about demand for them to make this change - sounded like stores were going to get quite a limited supply, so this was a relief to him.

There are the finest elven straps, woven of unicorn mane both sturdy and comfortable for Stormwing. The straps are hidden among the thick feathers and fur on the model thoug.

And here it is from last night's announcement on Warhammer Community:

Games Workshop wrote:On Boxing Day (that’s the 26th of December for those that do not observe – it’s also got nothing to do with punching) you’ll be able to head into your local Warhammer store to buy both The Steel Rook and The Hunter Strikes, two commemorative miniatures that have previously only been sold at events. They will be available while stocks last, but don’t worry if you miss out - they will also be available to order online from the 17th of January**.

** Note that this is a week later than we’d previously advertised, but that’s so that we can make this product Made To Order. If you place the order online by Monday 26th January at 8am GMT, you’ll definitely get one!

Ah yes - because whether or not a model can be Made To Order is dependant upon the date of release. Obviously.

Considering how much production GW does - that likely is true for their own internal process. Therefore it likely does help streamline things if orders come through during a set period so they can then know how many they've got and estimate production needs.

It also means that the stock from Boxing day physical sales should clear the system. Which means they get reliable "made to order" requests instead of a huge number on the day followed by loads of cancellations as everyone ordered one before heading to the shops to see if they could get one.
