Subject: AoS N&R (‘The Last World" p134, HoS preview p145)
Rather disappointing if it's all going to be 2 issues for everything decent.
In the case of the Krox - and assuming you get the magazine somewhere where you're not needing to pay shipping - that is still half price for a box o' Krox, though. Same with the Saurus Warriors. If it's the Oldblood on Carnosaur, that's nearly one third the RRP - chonky savings, even if not as spectacular as getting them for £10 instead of £20.

Last issue had an AoS mini-game taking up the card section. At least the third 'wizard duel' minigame they've put in the mag. Are they aware that other settings exist?

Hopefully GW does the same as last time and gives us an all things not 40k preview a week or two after the launch box releases so as to alleviate the boredom that plagues modern GW summer release windows.
Where are we currently with AoS? Do I remember correctly that we're expecting ogres next? What other armies are still missing a 4th ed army book?
Nehekhara lives! Sort of!

Currently the rumours say there are two significant releases to come. Ogors with a from the ground up redo and Dwarves with nine new kits based on the Darkwater style. Also that the Fyreslayers are getting wrapped up into that one big Duardin book. Also that the Fyreslayers are getting something new based on that teaser from ages ago.
Also that the Temple Guard are due to get redone for the Seraphon.

Geifer wrote: Thanks for the info! Dwarfs appear to get that much, huh? It'll certainly be nice to have a baseline dwarf range in AoS.
Here's some more specific leaks if you want to see them:
Spoiler:
New faction is named Khazalid Holds, will have four ancestor gods. Girmnir, Grungni, Valaya and Gazul and look similar to WHFB dwarfs.
Will have more Dispossessed kits than Fyreslayer kits
Surviving FS kits:
Auric Runefather
Auric Runeson
Auric Runesmiter
Battlesmith
Auric Flamekeeper
Grimhold Exile
Auric Runefather on Magmadroth
Auric Runeson on Magmadroth
Auric Runesmiter on Magmadroth
Hearthguards
Vulkyn Flameseeker
Golems will be part of the new Khazalid Holds roster
New Magmadroths or other new specimens
The new release kits or the number of FS miniatures in the release would be 12
Those 12 kits won't be dual builds between FS and Dispossessed
The teaser FS image could be a baby droth herder
Gotrek will join FS officially and is the main character of the Khazalid Holds
Khazalid Holds seems to be one of the last, if not the last, of the battletomes for the 4th edition.
These rumours aren't all from the same source but by multiple people so not everything here has to be 100% true

You know, I can think of a couple bigger problems. And it's not like the setting can just ditch the legacy characters now.
Speaking of legacy elements of the setting, Khazalid Holds? Really?

Oh I don't expect them to ditch anything, but when they went for this crazy, magical realms setting with all these new factions and then had all the most important characters still be characters from the old setting I was really disappointed by it.
The main issue is that because they made the gods the early core characters; it means we've lacked in the establishment of new smaller scale characters. There's a few, but AoS doesn't get as many BL books as 40K (heck the last few big BL release events didn't even have anything for AoS).
And when the game and battletome side focuses on the gods (most of which are old world characters); the game ends up just lacking that new-blood feel of characters stepping up. It's doubly hard because telling a story at the god level means events spaced out over 100s of years - which means a lot of characters either have to be Stormcast or Vampires or such - otherwise the end up dying of old age.
But yes having Old World characters is odd; its doubly odd that AoS is the 3rd age set after at least 4-500 years of the Age of Chaos and thousands of years of the Age of Myth. In theory the idea of the "old world" being a thing should be a super sketchy concept at best; with most people having no idea of it. Yet timescale is something AoS handles really poorly; so that it always feels like the Old Wrold blew up yesterday and the Age of Chaos was only a blip and so on and so forth
Honestly the strongly hinted lore blowup that might be coming up could be a good thing if it means that AoS gets its lore more under control; a bit more tamed to restrictions and structure and a little less "this is a sandbox"

I dunno, we're overdue for "normal" duardin. Like how we finally got High Elves with the Lumineth
The setting suffers by having things like steampunk dwarves and slayers, but no base element to compare them with. Like how we used to have savage orruks and heavy armor ones, but no in-between.
That being said, I do think they need less legacy character. The undead ones get a pass, since they can resurrect, but its hard to image everyone has survived for thousands of years

The way Gotrek's Old World story ended(endlessly battling daemons in the Realm of Chaos in Grimnir's place), him wandering out of the Realm of Chaos and into the Mortal Realms because he chased the daemons that ran off to do stuff in the Mortal Realms actually makes more sense than how the other legacy characters ended up there.

Also functionally speaking Gotrek (and felix) were a perfect exploration pair. If you read their stories you basically visit every faction in the game plus a few fringe ones that never get mentioned. It's an exploration of the whole setting through their experiences.
The only problem Gotrek has now is that GW doesn't really know what to do with him; they keep giving him these big teasing objectives (eg kill all the gods; reunite the dwarves) and they all tend to end/start the same - with him in depression drunk.
It's not a great move. He's not that drunk warrior seeking his doom because he's too good to die; he's that depressed guy drunk cause he's got nothing better to do and no aims in life. AT least no aims that go anywhere in the narrative (I suspect partly because he WAS supposed to tie into a new Dwarf model line that then never happened)

Oh, they definitely don't know what to do with him(hence them constantly "resetting" his story arc), I'm just saying the way he was put into the Mortal Realms makes more sense than anyone else from The World That Was.
