I mean they just recently had Ayakashi Triangle as an anime last year that has another gender bending premise, except more on the ecchi side, and that didn't raise any uproar, so I doubt it'll be the major concern for its release.
This is also another adaptation of a classic manga/anime, similar to how they did a second adaptation of Urusei Yatsura, as long as they do it similar along those lines I think it should be fine, it's more likely that people will compare it to how accurate it is to the original adaptation or the manga.
The OG Japanese dub should be fine, if anything it's going to be the localization for the English dub/sub where they'll insert modern day Western language into it where it wouldn't fit.

I didn’t know it was such an established thing. I had only heard of the one series, and it was a while ago. I don’t know enough but anime to f recognize all the ones you mentioned, so ai will bow out with a bit more optimism for the youtube.

er no.....i was into anime when the original was new. never cared for it, and given i have 7 pages of favorites on otaku streamers when i am not re-watching classics (just finished witch hunter robin and wolfs rain recently) i am catching all sorts of titles i missed. just started Izetta the last witch, and shangri-la (the post apocalyptic TV series not the one based on the fantasy game). i also have yojo senki (tanya the evil) Zipang and aldnoah zero in my re-watch schedule.

Playing with gender roles is very common in anime, but normally as a comedic bit. It is generally more akin to pantomime in the UK than anything nuanced. But the widespread nature does help with acceptance when more nuanced plots do occur, and I would say anime and manga in general are much less (small c) conservative than Japanese culture on the whole. It is something of an outlet for a culture where conformity is highly valued, hence the preponderance of protagonists that stand up to bullies or unjust authorities etc. The more-common reality is summed up by a Japanese saying that is roughly "the nail sticking out should be hammered flat".

Well, he PHYSICALLY changes gender due to a magical curse. But in his mind he consistently remains male. So... not a vast amount to complain about, rationally speaking.
Of course, people who throw a fit about stuff in YouTube comments are rarely rational, so there is that.
The real question is, have they sanitized it of nudity for American audiences? Since we all know Americans don't handle nudity well...
