I like the look of those Stiking Scorpions already.

Me, I just varnished my model. Looks like after months of cutting it close I'll finish comfortably early again. Provided nothing goes wrong while the varnish dries...

I managed to complete Boss Snikrot pretty quickly this month. But I'll post it closer to the end of the month.

Here's a preview of the vibes I was going for.

Solid Snikrot...

I know that's the wrong franchise, but the name Snikrot fits much better with Solid Snake than Sam Fisher

Solid Snikrot? Snikrot Fisher? Sam Snikrot? Eh, you decide.

I've been painting Raven Guard veterans, I'll post a progress pic in the next day or so...

If you're genuinely interested in greenskin shenanigans there is this.

Spoiler:

More of a fantasy goblin perspective, but still loads of fun.

Was not sure whether I would manage to get anything finished this month, as I've been mostly building concepts rather than painting.
However, to my great SURPRISE, I managed to get one display miniature done; Traitor Guard Sergeant from the Blackstone Fortress kit (if my memory serves me).
I've been wanting to do a display piece of this guy for a long while. I actually had painted all the others for gaming purposes way before, but saved this guy for later.

The model itself is not necessarily very stealthy or surprising, but chaos and betrayal could very well be.
I would imagine his old brethren were very surprised upon hearing him chanting prayers to the chaos gods for the very first time.
On a meta level, I'm quite surprised to have taken the leap for such a project. I'm usually very slow to try new techniques and styles, but it's something I'm trying to learn to do more often.

Proof (picture posted in my blog 29th of January, but painting started on 3rd of February).

And finished Traitor Guard Sergeant:

Wanted to go all in with two different light effects and opposing color temperatures: warm flames and cold moonlight.
My two brain cells don't understand how light actually works, so instead of realism, I opted for cool effects and having fun with the project. In reality, I think I redid the base like three times
The backdrop was mostly done by sponging (using leftover pieces from a miniature case pluck foam). Had to use a stencil for the moon though!
Did not spend time on blending shenanigans, as the goal was to practice volumes and contrast.

The end result still looks a bit like a carrot, but at least it's a chaotic carrot!

Time to crack open a bottle of lemonade and turn up the volume. Hope you like metal and synth, because that's all you're gonna get.

Alice After Hours:

I'm glad I could fit her into this month. Recently I've become sloppy with painting skin. Alice provided a good opportunity to get back on track.

Loving the work you did on the bottle - a proper soda pop if I do say so myself.

Although, those who have followed these challenges will know it is no surprise that I am painting old metal figures.

Pretty much done. A little cold out now for varnishing, but that and the base are all that's left. And maybe a lick of blood on the daggers.

Calling them done. I do have 4 more in progress, so could technically finish them and pick the best 5. But I’ll run with these for now. I know who to pester if I need to update my final pic.

So I’ve never been a fan of the bright emerald green stealth infiltration squad. So decided to go camo on mine. Of course, me being me and real camouflage being boring, there are still gems and highlights. Pretty happy with the way they turned out.

Camo striking scorpions are a fantastic idea! It's like Arnie and the Predator all rolled into one!

They look great, Nev, well done!

On the bright green stealth squad thing, tigers are bright orange, it seems to work for them...

That’s because many creatures don’t have the eyes to discern the difference between green/orange.

Which could be hilarious considering alien physiology. You could have camo patterns that a race develops based on what they see, but look garish and neon to others. “How did they even see we were here?”

It looks like the bulk of us are almost finished.

I'm really proud of my entry this month. I don't I have played around with low light and OSL this much before and I love how it looks. I might have try building more kommandos and play a game with this guy.

Edit: I swapped out the photos for something with a darker background.

Ok, what’s on your bench that wasn’t started at the top of the month? What can you get done in a week and a half? Give us a list of choices from that and we’ll surprise you with your entry!

Ha, yeah, I know. Though it's still remarkably good camouflage even for our eyes, given the right conditions.

@Mr Nobody that looks awesome! The green glow and OSL is sooo nice!

Here's what I've been working on this month. Some heresy Raven Guard veterans. Still quite a lot to do for them, but I've been distracted recently painting up some test models/schemes for old rogue trader eldar fire dragons (as I can't get hold of any of the new minis, currently).

Some work in Progress pix. I probabley will finish the model on the last day - so just to have something to show untill then...

I built the Body of my Ork Vehicle out of Spruceleftovers and duckedtape - like a real Ork would =) The Gondula is made out of FIMU - Plastelinelike and you put it in the Oven to finish.
Then Basecouting and maincolor. The gun started out yellow for bigger explosions and purple, but I changed it for only metallic and purple, because with the (kind of) blue OSL from the gun I felt it were too much colors involved.

Still need to fix some details (my airbrush surprised me with a colorexplosion while spraying), I want to paint the ropes yellowish and the Base is just Styrophoam up to now...

So much great stuff coming in this month. I’m almost ashamed to post my Goat Cav Dwarves. I just banged a lot of whatever on them and pretty much hated the entire process. Some minis are just nice to paint and some for some reason just aren’t.

Any mini painted is a victory agains the Pile of Shame. There are some that are a struggle. I’ve got a centurion working across the back of my bench I loathe. But he’s getting layers down. One step forward to completion at a time. Then will come his 2 friends.

It looks like I'll be entering the mimic this month. Just one model is a little sparse, though, so I'll be painting up this chest and halfling thief (both from Mantic's Dungeon Saga) to build a little scene.

Now showing various models from the previously adandoned projects!

Painting total as of 3429/2024: 56 plus a Deva King statue
Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants

We have less then a week left for this round, unless someone needs an extension. I know it’s a short month, so speak up if you need more time.

Next month we start this circus again on the annual March of the Space Marine, so no poll.
