Maybe they lost the ability in playtesting. An entire unit with Precision would be a very frightening thing to face.

Both of their battleline units have it...

Tbh, I would give every non-vehicle melee weapon precision across the board, same as how DG gets lethal hits.

Finally got to read through the Codex this evening.
And I realized that with all my random excess all I really need to field a 2k pt force are an additional 13 models.
1) Fulgrim - just a fantastic looking model. I was going to buy one anyways....
2) 12 models with swords/great swords. I can do that out of the bitz box.
So the only $ I'm spending on this force is whatever Fulgrim costs + some pink paint.
I do not guarantee it will be a good force.

Do you need to buy pink paint, or could you fudge a mix from existing colours?

I'm sure I [i]could[/u] mix my own, but.... Why?
There's several companies already making decent+ pink paint & I've got better things to do with my time than reinventing this wheel.

A little late to the EC party, but our area just got the codex last week and I finally had some time to sit down with it. I compared it to the Chaos codex where the units were the same.
For the most part our units (of the same name) were 10 - 15 points cheaper. Thus allowing to field more models as a whole. The special/additional rules for rhinos, heldrakes, maulerfiends, Deamon princes, etc. had changed and were much more melee focused, The only special rule that I wished carried over from the Chaos codex was the Maulerfiends move without restriction ability. Everything else was better suited for getting stuck in.
Long range shooting. Yep very limited, however, there are a few interesting ways to touch someone across the table. Unless I'm misreading it, EC rhinos can take two havok missile launchers each. EC rhinos can move 12, then advance D6, then because of their modified special rule, unload noise marines and then shoot up a unit that started 30+D6 inches away. Blastmasters while short ranged, still hurt a lot. Our Heldrakes now can cause 2D3 mortal wounds on any unit just by flying over them, never mind the hades autocannon.
The days of the static EC gun line are gone, however, the days of the combined mobile gunline and then everything left in HTH seems to be a real possibilty.
Aside from the obvious heavy hitting HTH characters, most of the other units can hold their own in HTH for the most part, I was especially pleased at how well the daemons seem to be at it. Daemonettes are ridiculously cheap and possibly die to a stiff breeze, but can deep strike and have the fight first ability along with devastating wounds.
The only unit that we were given that I just don't understand is the Flawless Blades. At more than 40 points per model, and no transport option other than a 240 point landraider, I just dont see how they get stuck in before being shot off the table.
Just from my reading, I see thi reallys army will be very strong in smaller games, where each unit needs to hit hard when they can. Fewer points per model and an over all increase in movement speed will be key. I can also see in increase in maulerfiends and heldrakes as the necessity of covering the distance and forcing target priority choices becomes more important.
Now having said all of the above, I have a helbrute, 6 bikers, a biker lord, defiler, and two preditors that I'm really going to miss fielding from my EC army. But at least I get my damonettes and KOS back, so maybe it wont be such a bad trade.
