Asurmen's sword arm keeps fighting the sub-assembly process by falling off twice so far when lightly touched so now reverted to pinning which is scary given the tiny socket and the many hours of paint job on the line.

Whilst slowly finding a solution that works as well as painting up his banner (I wish they only had the image on one side...) I have started on Maugan Ra. Going to use Maugan's loin cloth as an opportunity to put some white and green (stripes to be added) Biel-tan flair on an otherwise very dark miniature.

That's exciting. Cant wait to see how Maugan Ra turns out.

Quick update on Maugan Ra. Hoping on getting his hood and a few other sub-assemblies in place later today or tomorrow.

First tested the loose part of the hood to see how much of his face I need to paint and then finished off the skull and chest bones. Hoping to sort out all his lower body armour including the legs soon. Trying a very dark green armour for him and have had to rework the recipe a few times, but most of the early attempts will be hidden once he is assembled..

Ooof, Maugan is looking fantastic already. That red on his cape is real nice

Thanks everyone for your kind words!

Slogging on slowly, decided I now need to finish Asurmen before getting too far ahead on Maugan. I am quite sure I am not the only one that often leaves projects 90% finished and move on to some new stuff. I had some issues with his sword arm falling off and now think it is resolved with some 'micro-pinning', but before I glue it on for (hopefully...) the last time I need to finish the banner bits so I wont have to mess around with the mini again after that. Almost there now, so hopefully by the finish line before the weekend.

Also began working on a box of Dark Reapers that I struggled to find in stock for ages. I never liked the helmets on the current version as they look more comical than sinister to me so decided to copy an idea I found on a blog via an image search. I cut the helmet fins off from the Ynnari heads in the set, and glued them onto a Storm Guardian helmet (adjusted them a bit after taking the photo as they were not fully aligned). Much prefer this style and still have the original heads left if I change my mind. Perhaps the first time ever I will try to magnetise helmets I think I will paint the helmet bone white, but the face black as all of my other Aspect Warriors have black face panels.

Cheers!

An absolutely beautiful blog! Glad to see some old school painters here. I also returned to the hobby recently after a hiatus but my skills aren't anywhere near the level you're displaying here.

Damn mate, your blends are absolutely inspirational. My first love, Eldar, being treated with such beautiful paint jobs. I can't wait to see more.

Thanks Tek, your Deathguard conversions are very cool!

Had a bit of a break in my work schedule so managed to get Asurmen over the line this morning. Very pleased with how he turned out! Getting around to complete the banner took ages as Maugan Ra was trying to distract me. The sword arm also fell of multiple times after even the slightest knock, so had to be carefully pinned before this final(?) assembly. Possibly a bit concerning having an army led by someone who insists on having his passport photo on his banner...

Glorious work on Asurmen, smooth blends, great freehand, realistic gems. Nothing to fault!

Thanks! Asurmen is my favourite completed mini so far! Have taken a break from Maugan Ra to continue the experiment with one of his Dark Reapers, going to go for a dark green armour, with the contrasting gold ribs. Hoping to complete this one fairly soon to prove to myself that I might have an army before the end of this decade...

Just finished up the first Reaper, really please with the look of the alternative head and will stick to it for the rest of the minis, but first back to Maugan Ra to see if I can get him finished first.
