I'm looking over the Tempestus Scions and Tempestus Aquilons and I can't figure out what their headgear should be colored.

It seems that the Aquilons should have the traditional Maroon Beret of current Airborne units from across the globe...

But what of the Tempestus Scions? I know they have the Deep Strike special ability, but I see them less of a specifically airborne unit.

What color should their Berets be?

If I don't figure this out I will just paint them all green and base the entire force on the French Foreign Legion...

My MT Scions are getting Commando green and the MT Aquilons Para maroon - it fits UK elite units.
Might have some in sand colour (SAS) or scarlet (Military police) havent decided yet.

Well, if in doubt?

Raspberry Berets. The sort you find in a second hand store.

Yes. A Raspberry Beret.

Part of being a para is deliberately wearing the beret too tight. By doing so, one cuts blood flow to the brain making you extra stupid(ly brave)

That's why it's red!

I thought I would Google Beret colors...

There's a whole rainbow out there.

I do like the slate Grey of combat weathermen... that'd be a fun army to run...

The objective markers are all Rain Guages, Wind vanes and Barometers.

I looked it up... The Grey Berets: Special Forces Weathermen. There has to be a unit like this in the 40k universe.

If I paint their Berets Grey. What color should I make their uniform/armour?

I'll need to make objective tokens... any suggestions?

Hiding from Florida-Man.

So, you're going to paint them all Grey?

That doesn't sound like it's going to pop on the tabletop.

Krieg! What a hole...

It's fine if your armor doesn't pop. My Death Korps looked great in drab, all grey, browns and blacks.

I'd say maroon for the Aquilon and tan for the regular Scions. The CAF CANSOF has tan berets (even their clerks), so if that was the inspiration Scions would be all tan regardless, but I think a bit of variety and a nod to IRL airbornes is also a good idea.

I was distracted by trying to find Grey armor when I stumbled upon Staship Troopers... and Power Rangers... and Firefly.

But maybe Grey armor for the Scions/Aquilons could work.

Black Berets for the Scions and Red for the Aquilons. (I stole this from Starship Troopers 1 & 3).

Gundam G-saviour as well.

Definitely one of my favourite Easter eggs. That armour must’ve been well made, because it cropped up in the oddest places.

Hollywood prop stores are like Warehouse 13. I saw a thing recently that Contagion used a 16 year old Gwyneth Paltrow head prop originally made for Se7en. I mean I can understand a bit of “oh that might be useful in the future”. But that is about as psychotic as the antagonist in Se7en.

I guess a chunk of it will be cost efficiency and maybe some kind of tax benefit and that.

I know a bunch of Dr Who originating gubbins have turned up in Star Wars, most notably Bossk’s pressure suit, and some of Mando’s blasters having repurposed Dalek parts.

I kinda wish I could use the Kasrkin models instead of the Scions/Aquilons. The Kasrkin are much nicer models.

So it's down to Black, Tan, Green and Burgundy/Red.

Edit: Whoops, wrong picture!

I created my own based on an Air Force Special Operations Group.

The 164th Tactical Weather Operations Group, known colloquially as the Grey Berets, is an elite unit within the Astra Militarum specializing in meteorological reconnaissance. In a universe where every advantage counts, these soldiers are tasked with securing critical environmental data—storm patterns, radiation levels, and atmospheric anomalies—prior to major offensives.

To support their operations, Valkyries and Grav Chute deployments deliver an array of specialized equipment—barometers, temperature gauges, and weather-monitoring servitors—directly into the heart of conflict zones. Once on the ground, the Grey Berets traverse hostile terrain and evade enemy patrols to retrieve the data, ensuring that the broader Imperial forces are never caught unawares by environmental hazards.

Equipped with state-of-the-art auspex scanners and modified vox arrays for long-range communication, these operatives combine tactical precision with rapid, silent execution. Their insertion methods—whether by Grav Chute or Valkyrie —allow them to operate under the cover of darkness or adverse weather, enhancing their survivability in even the most chaotic warzones.

Legends persist of entire squads lost to the tumult of warp storms, their final transmissions a grim reminder of the cost of foresight. Yet, the sacrifices of the Grey Berets provide the Imperium with indispensable intelligence, a strategic edge in the endless war for survival.

Commissar Thaddeus Varek of the 8th Iron Guard once stated, "In the face of oblivion, the Grey Berets stand unyielding. Their honor is as unflinching as the Emperor's will—an ever-burning beacon amid the storm of chaos." This rallying cry encapsulates the spirit and dedication that drives the 164th Tactical Weather Operations Group.

Bearing the battle cry, "The Storm Breaks Before Us," the 164th Tactical Weather Operations Group stands as a testament to the Imperium's relentless drive for dominance—melding military rigor with the unforgiving realities of a galaxy at war.

So.maybe Red/Burgundy for the Aquilons and Grey for the Scions?

a lot of the costumes used in Star Trek TOS were reused from other productions by Desilu studios and Paramount, with fairly minor tweaks to make them a bit less obvious. kinda went hand in hand with the use of the studio backlot, so that if you pay attention you can see captain kirk interacting with the same buildings used for the andy griffith show and a bunch of others.

recycle and reuse has been a huge part of film making from very early on. and a lot of props get comissioned from dedicagted prop companies, which rent them out to anyone who wants to use them. especially expensive props like custom armor.
