Could OPR be a winner in this? Their main income comes from 3d files and they have no overseas rulebook printing.

Their recent update around their upcoming crowdfunding suggests that tariffs will complicate the project (proposed production of plastic minis in China), but not their overall outlook.

As long as folks can still service and purchase 3d printers (which are going up in price) sellers of 3d printed minis and files are probably in a reasonably good place.

OPR is cute but their financial part is tiny, after paying sculptors you're left with a cushy income for one person. That income certainly isn't in any danger from tariffs, but it's also in no danger of growing into even a small sized company.

I don't know who is winning but it seems a like a lot of crowdfunded stuff is losing. I know I have at least one Kickstarter that was nearing fulfillment that has come to a complete stop.

KS know it is hurting people, and have done this:
https://news.slashdot.org/story/25/04/28/1857213/kickstarter-introduces-tariff-manager-tool-to-add-charges-to-already-fully-funded-projects
the crowdfunding site Kickstarter is introducing a "Tariff Manager tool" that will allow creators to add extra charges to projects that were already fully funded in order to deal with the higher and unexpected costs of the president's global trade war.

The challenge is some KS are going to try and stall and wait for more favourable importing conditions because the situation is so fluid. However there's going to be a good many who sunk everything they had into the KS and can't just sit there for 2-3-4 months for a stable favourable outcome.

Just heard that many Canadian vendors and companies are skipping GenCon because of the tariffs. The whole "51st state" rhetoric probably isn't helping, either.

Awaken Realms published an update to their Stalker and new Nemesis game crowdfunding, essentially informing their backers that US backers will not receive their games while the tariffs keep in effect.

That is not what they are saying, they said that they are expecting a delay to shipping to US backers until the situation stabilises and they can act on hard and verifiable data.

One thing I will say?

Now is the time to Buy Local. Whatever you think of the tariffs, they’re going to impact all your local sellers, not just plastic crack vendors.

It may cost more to shop local, and if you genuinely can’t meet that price then fair enough, but your local economy is super sensitive. The more local businesses fold, the few local folk are in gainful employment, so the less money is in local circulation. And from there a bloody vicious circle occurs.

Think carefully, and by all means act in your own self interest. But please do so wisely. If you can genuinely afford the extra few quid, dollars, shekels, teef to get your goods locally, you can help safeguard your local area from far worse consequences.

I'm definitely going to stop by my FLGS more. They may not make the games/paint/cards but they're going to struggle with the extra costs and need support. Especially since it's one of the rare shops with a spacious gaming area.

Yup, that definitely counts as Buying Local in my book. They may not offer the deepest discounts compared to online sellers, but they offer other incentives, such as gaming space.

Does buying local include local Warhammer shops?

Why wouldn't it? The shops provide local employment and gaming space (probably). Its like franchises. Yes, some of what you pay goes to feed the multi-national entity in the background, but a lot of it is there to support a local business with employees from nearby.

The biggest minis company is still comparatively a mom & pop corner shop all things considered.

Even with chain stores, the majority of their costs are the wages of the employees. So most of it does stay local. Less than if its an actual small business, but if its a choice between buying something in a BigStore or BigStore.com the in-store purchase does more for your local area.

I don't really see most CCGs doing terribly well. While a decent amount of MTG cards are printed in Texas, they have printers in Japan and Belgium as well, both of which send a lot of cards to the US to deal with demand. Pokemon prints US cards in Raleigh, although I think they still have printers in Belgium for non-English cards.

Even without printing overseas though, the materials to make them are from countries facing tariffs, with paper and pulp largely coming from China and Canada, and imported ink from the UK, Japan and Canada. While there's domestic sources for both of those, it's hard to find information on whether WotC and Nintendo use those already or if they're using imports, and (if the latter) whether domestic sources would even be acceptable substitutes.

One possible winner might be me in terms of clearing out my backlog. 2 avenues.

1) Just stuff being more expensive might get me to put a bit more effort into building and painting the stuff I have rather than purchasing more.

2) If increasing prices and decreasing availability drives folks to the used market (and thereby drives prices up a bit), it might become more worth the effort for me dig into the garage and find more gaming and model railroad stuff to sell. Alternatively, the used market could also tank if it's flooded with stuff being sold by folks who need some extra cash because their jobs have been wiped out...
