Subject: Dark Fleets Rising - November Release - by Soulforge Studios
Dark Fleets Rising is a brand new STL range of models sold exclusively through My Mini Factory.
The Launch features TWO Full Fleets being sold through the Store. These fleets are complete modular ranges with presupports. Everything you need to field them on the tabletop is included in the kits.
https://www.myminifactory.com/users/DarkFleetsRising?show=store
Over time new fleets will be added, each one being released as a fully complete pack of models. That means no waiting, no pausing; once a fleet is live you can get the entire range in one go! By developing fleets as whole packs rather than monthly releases, it means that the quality of the designs can be higher than ever; allowing for more test printing; more matured and unified designs across the entire fleet as they are developed alongside each other.
PLUS in addition to the Store, there is also a Tribe at just $5 per month where you get unique ships; upgrade parts and packs and more each month. Letting you have even more variety and unique flare choices for your fleets.
The first of the starting fleets are the Terran Legions, Sector Primus. Part of the Holy forces of Terra, they guard the most important world in the Galaxy, the seat of power of the Goddess Terra. With vast ships able to fly the gulf between worlds to carry her word to far reaches; and to crush any who might oppose her will. These ships carry massive weapon batteries along heavily armoured broadsides; whilst the armouring on their ships makes each one akin to a cathedral in space.
There's still time to get the September release for Dark Fleets Rising featuring a modular Space Station kit! With varied weapon and tower choices and fully compatible with standard turret mounts across all DFR core ships, this station can be built as small and compact or as sprawling huge as you wish!
I feel kind of sad that they spent so much time sculpting such uninspiring ships. There are so many good Chaos STLs out there and these are just …unfortunate.
A shame especially because the marine ships look so great, some of them even better as Chaos ships than these chaos ships.
Overread wrote: What do you feel is lacking on these ships? So far I've generally seen more talk/chatter about them than the Imperial based designs
They look...Tholian (SFB)...
Not a bad thing, but nothing that I would associate with Chaos. They also look very clean. Most traditional Chaos ships have lots of structural gribblies all over the place. Again, not a bad thing, but a different aesthetic.
Urusei Yatsura, Cerebus the Aardvark, Machiavelli, Plato and Happy Days. So, how was your childhood?
Yea I don't see the point of making stuff that obviously fits into BFG ship classes but looks like nothing in the GW range. At this point go sculpt for One Page Warfleets or make your own game, dudes.
The old meta is dead and the new meta struggles to be born. Now is the time of munchkins.

Well OPR Warfleets is much more limited as a game format and whilst OPR itself has done really well the Warfleets is kind of ignored (heck they've not even done any new ships or classes of their own in ages, they recycle them around when they do re-release them monthly).
Own games are doable but also a huge investment and risk and most of them don't take off; using BFG as a foundation is far more viable to get actual fans coming on board. Plus own designs have far less chance of being targeted by GW (and are more freeing for hte sculptor)
That said if you check the construction video from the battleship from last month you can see that the armour panels are a separate part; intentionally so so that there's room for more corrupted/twisted/detailed/different panel designs in the future
The SFS thing is even more strange when they started out making what I think is a definitive set of BFG models for most of the races, modular, well-designed, easy to print. Then they vaulted all of those offerings in lieu of their own original designs that have drifted closer and closed to BFG with the serial numbers filed off anyway.
Soulforge used to have a gakload of really good BFG sculpts. I remember them saying they took it all down essentially because they didn't want to be defined as 'that studio that makes BFG stuff', which rang a little hollow to me.
I'm guessing this new line indicates there may have been some legal threats behind the scenes. I know of a couple of Patreon sculptors who have gotten C&D'd by GW and had to redesign their work to be less overtly 40K/WHFB.
These designs are... fine, I guess. IMO they're in an unfortunate position of being close enough to the BFG originals to be obviously compared to them, while also different enough to not really meet the mark as substitutes.
It was purely a creator choice - there were no scary GW letters at the time which led to that choice being made.
And yes these are different, but scaled and featured to fit into the slots. It's a different take much the same as you can see OPR did with many of their forces.
