Speaker brackets may be the preferred solution. They’re properly chunky beast. Suspending them from the ceiling would mean only seeing the underside.

If you want to suspend something from the ceiling and have it be below eye level nobody will stop you. You just need longer string/line/cable/chains. And to acknowledge the fact you are going to bump into it all the time, and the resident floofs might treat it like a piñata.

I’d be more willing to have the smaller ships suspended.

Though for the massive ships? The ceiling above the stairs might suit.

Spoiled my solution in case it helps. I printed a support thing, but I was happy just to screw the things together permanently.

That does look cool. But the ones I’ve got are ridiculously heavy.

Some kind of bracket mounted to the wall, say holding them on their side would probably work.

Is gonna need a desk lamp. Will nip round the corner tomorrow after work, see what I can find.

Right, cutting mat and angle lamp procured. Shop only had a floor mounted one, but it’ll do.

So, that’s a nice thing to have mounted on the floor of your hobby room, isn’t it Dakka?

Will get it installed later.

I like that desk! Is it a hand made or shop bought one? Because I'm in the market for a hobby desk myself.

Got it from B&Q.

https://www.diy.com/departments/costway-l-shaped-desk-corner-computer-desk-with-storage-shelves-brown/7984707603876_BQ.prd

Wasn’t able to install the keyboard shelf, as the spars it connects to are about quarter to half an inch too close together. But as don’t use such shelves anyway, didn’t worry about it.

It’s is a decent size though. And I appreciate having a power unit. Two UK plug socket, USB and USB-C.

Came in two boxes, so if you’re putting it upstairs a second person to help carry them is a good idea.

Also, not sure if it’s just my pressing need for reading glasses, but the instructions could be clearer. The ladder frames the shelves sit on have specific orientation, which only really comes apparent when you’ve built that section and are connecting it all together.

That being said, if you read through the instructions first that should become apparent.

This is my new desk; two ikea draws with an oak kitchen worktop attached. Fills the space perfectly and plenty of storage.

Where’d you get the pegboard from? I’ve a spot ideal for such a contraption (piece of wood bolted to wall to right of the desk) and plenty of Gubbins to store on it.

Its the ikea skådis range. Got 4 of them up. Really useful with the accessory options. Especially with 3d printing.

Very nice! Particularly fond of the bases being in their own tubs/cups.

Guess I’m making a trip to IKEA again. I could get it delivered, but that’s a stupid price.

I’m particularly looking forward to not having to play “and where did I leave that hobby tool”.

First session done. Got a very comfortable workspace now.

Built a pair of tanks, two resin characters and made a start on Knights Cenobium for my Dark Angels.

Also got the peg board up. Mounted it on the existing wooden notice board thing installed by the previous owner.

The combination of Skadis and 3d printer == infinite vertical storage solutions

I tried 3d printing some pegboard stuff, but it didn’t have a lot of structural stability. Not sure if I was doing something wrong, but I gave up after a few pegs snapped.

And at this point my workbench with the pegs got repurposed to the garage, so not an issue unless I put some more up. Which would not be a bad idea.

Very pleasing to have a place I can put me tools and glues in when I’m done for the day.

Also nice to have power running to the work desk. When it comes to spraying, gives me a comfortable place to plug in the booth. And when not spraying, I’ve USB2 and USB-C for my phone, iPad and speaker.

I found printing the pegboard supports separately to the actual thingy helped. Glue is usually more than enough to hold the two together.

@MDG&Flinty both boards look great.

@Nevelon what material are you printing with? I have recently started getting the tough resin for some of the designs in my etsy store and honestly I I'll be printed everything for my hobby that isn't terrain in it. It is so much more robust, and well worth the price difference.

Filament printer, not resin. I forget the exact brand. It might have been my settings, but I remember thinking it was sheering on layer lines. It was years ago, so details are fuzzy.

Well the details would be fuzzy with a filament print.

The new inter-layer printing methods to get half-layer offsets would also help with that kind of issue. I have never tried using them in practice, but the theory is sound.

And I’ve just bought a 3d Printer.

Been farting around the poo in terms of getting one for a while, and found a solid Black Friday Deal on an AnyCubic.

Should be here by the end of the week, and I know just where it’s going to live.

Won’t be printing playing models, and I shan’t bore anyone with the why. But scenery and embellishments? Now those are strong possibilities.

For instance? Instead of buying FW Doors and Transfers to Darkangelificate Tanks? I’m hoping to find flat sided Legion Specific Embellishments you glue onto an existing model. Like a Dado Rail, but not at all like a Dado Rail.

As well as raised details, 3d printers are able an infinite number of revise stencils to be created. If you will be doing the same design over multiple models and you have the dimensions of the model you can make the stencil such that it automatically slots into position.
