I thought I didn't like K-Pop, and was sure I was not going to enjoy the film- now, half of what I've played for the last 3 weeks of Spotify has been this soundtrack. And everytime my boys get me to watch it again, I get chills every time 'This is What it sounds like' starts up. It is truly more than the sum of its parts.

Orkeosaurus, on homophobia, the nature of homosexuality, and the greatness of George Takei.
English doesn't borrow from other languages. It follows them down dark alleyways and mugs them for loose grammar.
K-pop is extremely predatory. It's not a comment on the film specifically. Still, I can't handwave an industry that specifically recruits 14-15-year-olds with the promise of fame and then forces them to undergo plastic surgery and public abuse.

The only way we can ever solve anything is to look in the mirror and find no enemy

That's fair - I will say that the "message" of the film is very positive - besides being a lovely, very funny and even sometimes tear inducing story with really good characters and some really interesting elements of older Korean culture.
They had me at the 'A demon boy band? you think that'll work?' gag.
I was committed from the first plane scene - when they spent as much time sorting their pre-show food as fighting.

Do not flee!
I watched out of curiosity one weekend when I had nothing much on and really enjoyed it. It has just the right blend of heartfelt characters, annoyingly catchy music and a smattering of off-the-wall almost loony toons cartoon humour that elevates it far, far above where it should be.
It ranks up with the Lego Movie and Barbie in my list of “films that should be awful but aren’t and make me smile every time.”
Automatically Appended Next Post: P.s. love the tiger!

My daughter has requested it for movie night every week for a couple of months at this point. I am not yet bored of it because the music and animation are so awesome. It also has these wonderfully stupid flourishes, like when they are sneaking about backstage of the comedy show, and when the Saja Boys are running away from them,’one getting a piggyback.
Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!
It's currently my kids favourite film, meaning we have watched it 3 times since release. It's still excellent, no regrets at all.
