How do!
No I don’t mean sweary or “ist” songs. For this is Dakka and we don’t bother the mods with that. Rather, I’m looking for songs which absolutely don’t reflect 40K, but actually kinda do. Ish. After a fashion.
Example to kick us off?
A song not quite embracing the sheer terror of a Drop Pod assault on your lines, but also does kinda reflect how it must feel to your Imperial/Loyalist foes.
Wrong link was wrong. Now sorted.
Another? From the perspective of the ground troops, when Knights and/or Titan walk in support of their position.

Thing is, I’m not sure it’s inappropriately appropriate. Because Orks is always having a good time!
Though, The Piranha’s “Getting Beaten Up” might cover the life of an Orky Yoof? Because it’s not a song about winning a fight. Rather how fighting is just a part of life.

That one's just a legit banger. The whole Chaos Girl series is great. There are a couple line choices here and there where you can tell their inexperience as a writer, but they're still very enjoyable. The story behind the Tzeentch one is still my favourite, but I think the Nurgle smooth jazz one technically the best.

A song with so many 40K implications.
General Imperial Guard tactics (wots collateral damage, precious?)
Unleashing an Eversor.
The Burning of Prospero.
The Dark Angels in the late Heresy era utterly knacking Traitor Legion homeworlds.
Being a long time “possibly since before you were born” Dark Angels fan, I’m of course thinking of the last.
Though perhaps one really best suited to the Iron Warriors finally avenging the many, many slights they were subjected to, whilst others got the glory?

Looping back to OP's intent of songs that weren't originally for 40k... pretty much every song by Two Steps From Hell. I have it play as background music for my games all the time and it would be great to draw on inspiration for the soundtrack to the series... real curious what they are doing to to musically there...
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, in a totally different vein, I've always though that the melancholic resolve to battle on for those lost be it a person or belief in this one felt like it fit well in with 40k:
I'll give this one another try, maybe it fits the OP more this time
Bon Jovi's Bed of Roses. It obviously describes the somewhat strange relationship between a human slave and their Dark Eldar master. While the master is out for raiding the human sits tied to an instrument, drugged, contemplating their miserable live, and suffering from some kind of Stockholm-syndrom. For the night I sleep on a bed of nails.
