These classic Warhammer games are now on Steam, and at a discount:

Fire Warrior
Final Liberation
Rites of War
Warhammer: Mark of Chaos
Chaos Gate
Shadow of the Horned Rat
Dark Omen
Sanctus Reach

I'm actually quite excited as I missd a couple of these when they first came out! I just hope they updated them to fix the bugs and work on modern systems.

I played the heck out of Final Liberation back in the day. Have fun!

They've been on GOG for years in some cases but nice to see them finally come across to Steam.

Ohh cool - I loved Fire Warrior back in the day

Good to know! Dark Omen was my first or second GW computer game. I can't remember if I played it or 40k: Chaos Gate first...

I’d get Mark of Chaos, but for under a fiver, as a sweet impulse buy.

But what I really really want is DoW2 Retribution to work on my PC :(

Mark of Chaos is good fun - heck before TW Warhammer it was the best warhammer gaming experience you could get.

It's still a decent game and brings a few unique things to the field - eg heroes can do a whole challenge match where the pair just square off against each other in a micro fight which is very war/hero hammer style.

I've got Chaos Gate, Final Liberation, Rites of War, and Fire Warrior already on GOG, but Steam is so much more convenient.

I'll certainly get Chaos Gate again just to see if it isn't game-breakingly broken like the GOG version.

EDIT: Although £6.39 after 20% off is a bit steep...

Chaos Gate works better than I recall the gog version working so far. Final Lib is the best one though, pure 90s.

Unless the PS2 version of Fire Warrior is being emulated on PS5, or Nightdive is doing Space Hulk 95, hard pass.

Touhou is the only series I'll buy from Steam, and DOS Box on GoG hasn't been upgraded for Windows 11 last time I tried Rites of War....

Reviews of Fire Warrior have been positive, but so far it seems its a direct, but somewhat more stable port of the old PC game, without any remastering or whatnot involved.

For that price it's worth it just for the cutscenes. Better than most stuff on WH+...

Obligatory..

Because yes, it's the best kind of campy peak!

Also, with the FMV's, it's recommended not to play the "Is Mark Bedford in this scene" drinking game.

One of the few MMO's I actually enjoyed.

I'd also love to see the return of the EA Space Hulk games, Vengeance of the Blood Angels was my first exposure to 40k way before I knew what it was all about.

It's on the GOG dream list if people want to vote in the hopes if making a return: https://www.gog.com/dreamlist/game/space-hulk-vengeance-of-the-blood-angels

I'm not sure if it's 100% there or if there's any weird politics around who's running it or whatever so caveat emptor but Return of Reckoning is a very functional fan run private server initiative thing for Warhammer Online and it's playable, I've tried it. https://www.returnofreckoning.com/

I remember not being impressed with Firewarrior back in the day. Very basic shooter with rails like maps. Didn’t get too far into the game without shelving it. Did it get better? Worth picking up?

Played the h*ll out of Shadow of the Horned Rat & Dark Omen.

Not getting them because they probably won't wotk on my computer.

I loved those two as well, and Final Liberation. Never played Mark of Chaos though I was interested.

I might look at these in a while, at the moment in the rare moments I play games I'm playing the Mount and Blade Warband warhammer mod.

Oh man I love these. Dark Omen is amazing (especially with mods), Fire Warrior is fun and Rites of War is surprisingly good (I played the hell out of a demo I got with PC Gamer back in the day)

Pretty sure I have about half of them on GOG too but I like having everything on one platform

GOG insists on opening in the background and getting in the way when I'm trying to do something else. Which is quite annoying.

From what the reviews say, outside of making it run on modern systems, nothing has been changed. So, gakky aim-assist is present, bare-bones options menu with zero options.

But it has the voices of Tom Baker, Burt Kwouk, Peter Serafinowicz, Sean Pertwee and BRIAN BLESSED.

The opening FMV for Fire Warrior is fantastic. My local GW had it playing on a loop for months, great intro to the setting.

I will always love Firewarrior if for no other reason then it gave me my introduction into the Steel Legion. Which to this day still remain my favourite Guard regiment. That the 3rd edition storm troopers also got a good showing throughout the game doesn't hurt none either.

Firewarrior also has my favourite incarnation of the bolter out of any 40k game. It FEELS like a bolter should. A big noisy terror weapon that shoots tiny missiles that blow you up. The chaos bolter also makes a cool sound when you fire it.

As an FPS, the game is so-so. It's pretty basic, not in a bad way in my opinion, but it hasn't got anything flash going for it. The graphics are a product of their time, so while it's unfair to criticise them because of it, you shouldn't be surprised when you boot it up and aren't looking at a modern game.
The storyline also gets a bit out of hand at about the halfway mark seeing as you start out as a Shas'la on his first mission fighting your way through the trenches, to going on to plow through a squad of marines, a couple of companies worth of guardsmen/stormtroopers, a half-legions worth of chaos marines, two daemon princes and a lord of change....

Not to mention you pretty much single-handedly stop an enemy boarding your spaceship, before launching an almost one-tau counter assault on the enemy ship which results in you capturing a navy admiral before descending down into (almost) hell and promptly stopping a warp rift from opening.
And you cripple a warlord titan with a few (well placed!) sticks of dynamite. It makes just about any Arnie movie look sensible by comparison.

At the danger of raining on nostaliga, its a 90s FPS reskinned to 40k and released in 2003. If you like the aesthetic then you can perhaps overlook a lot of sins, but I don't think its really worth playing in 2026.

Cynically this is going to apply to a lot of these titles. I really enjoyed playing Final Liberation, Chaos Gate and Dark Omen. But that was then and this is now. The aesthetic/mood may still be 10/10, but certain things have moved on.

Space Hulk (Classic) is also back. Fantastic and faithful digital reproduction of the 3rd Edition game. Much more elegant than Space Hulk Ascension, which added all the RPG elements and cluttered AI.
