When they first introduced Guilliman he was great for Ultramarines, but could be helpful in almost any imperial army. The fact that I had a spare 3rd party version sitting around inspired me to start UM.

How tempted would you be to get a Primarch that isn't matching your chapter, either just for the giggles, or because they can technically lead your troops?

I have to admit that I don't play Salamanders, but would jump on a Vulcan model. Rogal Dorn, not quite so much.

I don't have any desire to buy my own Primarch, never mind someone else's! The combination of cost and how they warp the game around them just annoy me.

First, I wish they left them in myths, history and 30k. But that genie is out of the bottle at this point. Also the dead ones need to stay that way.

I play UM and own Guiliman.

The Lion is an amazing model. I’d love to get him purely as a painting project. But there is just not enough time and money in my life. I’ve got a Pile of Shame that will last me years, full of stuff I’d like to get to the table for my active armies. And a lengthy number of things on the “to buy” list.

I would be tempted by a plastic 40k Vulcan. My son plaid Salamanders, and I’ve painted a few for him over the years.

I’m not dealing with large resin models. I know how to work with it, just not a fan. the 30k primarchs are a lovely bunch of minis though.

I really dislike the giants approach to Primarks. So much better when they were Marine sized.

Desire? Yes. Willingness to pay the price? No.

Especially Angron and the Lion are beautiful models, but as long as there are models to buy for my own armies, I'll probably not buy them.

If I had infinite money, I'd probably get the JoyToy versions as display pieces.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

If Russ ever came out I'd pick one up and send it to New Hampshire.

Yep, same. Everything 40K needed in terms of 'big picture' background was already in place by 3rd edition and it's been downhill all the way from there.

So Leman Russ was your only Primarch then?

I remember that model (used to have the physical WD that featured it. However, if I remember correctly it wasn't an actual model for sale, but a conversion project one of the guys at GW did.

I have Alpharius and Lorgar, since I played WB in HH1.0 and Alpha Legion now.

As cool as the models are, I have no plans on buying any more. Alpharius is still unpainted, I am saving him for the end of the project to ensure he's the best looking one of the lot.

I play my Deathwatch as sort of an omni-chapter where my playstyle depends on who is leading the current strike force in no small part to pick up cool characters I like:

Spoiler:

Lion is definitely on my interest list. I would have picked him up in the battleforce box, but let it go to a new player looking to start with it.

I'm on this team. I can appreciate that the models are cool (love the look of the HH primarchs), but I don't love them in 40k. I play Thousand Sons, but I've intentionally avoided getting a proper Magnus model because he kind of bends every story and army around himself. You go from telling any story you can think of about these ancient sorcerer warriors with exotic quirks and unique aspirations to instead explaining what Magnus is up to. Every time. And your list warps to revolve around the big, expensive daemon primarch at the core of your army.

So instead, I avoid Magnus and tell the story of my Charles Xavier/Magneto reference sorcerer who's obsessed with training up new generations of psykers and encouraging psychic potential within humanity.

The loyalist primarchs have similar problems to Magnus, but with the added cringe of their returns feeling kind of contrived and making the setting feel even more marine-centric. (Even though primarchs technically aren't marines.)

Saying this as someone who thinks Russ and the Khan and Corax are cool: their inevitable returns to 40k will be very cringe.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

Bringing back the loyalist primarchs is literally the worst thing that has ever happened to 40K, so no, I have no desire to use them. Besides, I greatly dislike the supersizing.

The only way I can imagine myself buying one, would be to convert one into a daemon prince. But I don't actually play chaos.

IIRC in his picture in the main RT book he’s referred to as a commander (which was the chapter master rank at the time)

But in the how to paint SM booklet that show’s his model he’s labled as a primarch.

He's listed as a Commander in the White Dwarf 117 ad, as well.

I'd forgotten about that painting guide! Loved that thing. I wonder if that's the earliest reference to him as a primarch...

I would like to eventually get a Russ (Even if I have to kit-bash him) but never for play, only to display with my army once I get the full chapter assembled.

You do not remember correctly.
They most certainly did make a Leman Russ & his wolves that was for sale.
(If you dont believe me do an Ebay search)
He's been leading my SW for 30some years....
He just never had bedpoke rules.

As for me buying a Primarch not for "my army"?
Well, "my army" is:
● UM - Guillamon just won't fit the theme ive got. So very unlikely.
DA - not opposed, just haven't got around to it yet. If i come across a finely painted one at an acceptable price though....
BA - not interested
SW - I've had Leman Russ painted & in service for 30some years. All I need are rules.
DW & GK - no primarchs to worry about.
● Flesh Tearers, Mentors, & Doom Eagles - no primarchs to worry about.
● World Eaters - yes, Angron is a fantastic model. That I actually dont use all that often.
● Deathguard - no interest. I dont like the Mortarion model.

Loyalist/Traitors that i dont play:
Itll just depend if I like the model.
For ex, I have a Fulgrim but zero interest in playing EC.

Thanks for correcting.
It has been a number of years since I went searching for him, remembering I had seen him in WD. For some reason I remember finding the entry and it talking about how it was a studio thing snd so haven't looked for him since.

Looks like I can start up my search again.

I don't like that Primarchs were brought back into 40K at all.

I don't like that they made the giant sized space marines.

I don't like RG's model, I think the armour looks really weird.

The Lion's model is okay, but nothing to write home about imo and would be better if he was normal sized.

Magnus looks silly to me, I don't think they pulled off his model well. Same for Mortarion, he really doesn't land for me.

Fulgrim is a good model but I just don't like Slaanesh that much so no interest there.

So the only one I might ever consider getting is Angron, which is a cool model and I think makes for a cool Sci-Fi themed Greater Daemon of Khorne. But he costs a squillion euros, so probably not.

As for what I play - I've got Crimson Fists and Word Bearers. I think both of their Heresy models look cool, but would be cooler if they were normal sized. Not interested in picking them up.
