Salaam aleikum
Word around the water cooler/I heard through the grape wine/latest of the rumor mill etc... I was wondering
if any of you have anything solid about Forgeworld (or GW for that matter) planning on putting out conversion
kits for super-heavy tanks? I'd love to get my hands on a Stormblade, but so far the prices from FW are way
too high for me. A conversion kit would be grand.
Incidently, I've been looking around the net for tips on converting plastic Baneblades into Stormblades. And I've
come up empty. Anybody know of such plans?

That would be great. Being able to only pay $160 for a conversion kit + Baneblade rather than $350+ for some of those other supper heavies would be great.

Sweet Yeti of the Serengeti! Thanks for the info, RanTheCid. I knew I shouldn't have stopped
looking through WD all those years back.
Now, any ETA on those? Not that I'm in a rush, but would be nice to know

The pictures within Imperial Armour: Apocalypse are all of the conversion kits (you can tell because of the tracks), so the Stormsword, Stormblade and Shadowsword conv kits are all done.

I saw this too. It strikes me as a bit strange that it would be in white dwarf before the forgeworld newsletter. Forgeworld usually keep the newsletter up to date and appears in white dwarf about 3months later (white dwarf is made in advance). I've just checked forgeworld and it's not showing as a pre order option either. I'd also go more in the region of £40-£50 looking at the bits you get compared with other conversion kits. There's the gun, new armour plus the rear details. Seem quite good value for £30 when a russ turret is £12.

There's an interesting article on the GW-US from way back about a guy who scratch built one using modified plans found in an old issue of WD!
Still, I'd prefer an "official" add on kit...

Yeah, but it's not a *real* Stormhammer, it's only single main turret instead of dual main turrets. So it's a locally-sourced copy, rather than a Mars original.

Yeah, good luck getting one. I ordered a Warhound, which I received a month later with missing parts. It took another 2 months, a few phone calls and I finally convinced them to send one of the parts and I would simply greenstuff the rest. A financial quarter to receive a complete kit (Well MOST of $560 kit) with only a "Sorry" offered.
There is a reason they are advertising for a Forge World Administrator on their main page.

Good point!
The dual turret conversion would be a bit trickier, I'd imagine.
Still, I'd love to see it!

For anyone who has IA: Apoc, without going into banned levels of detail, what is the game effectiveness difference between these variants and a Baneblade? You're giving up the hull demo cannon and (importantly for a close to immobile super-heavy) the handy dandy turret. What do you get in return? Is it going to put a giant hole through a Warhound or is it just a different style barrel for the same Strength D gun?

The baneblade main gun is not a D strength weapon. The Shadowsword volcano cannon is D strength. The Stormblade plasma cannon is along the same lines as the baneblade cannon but has the option to rapid fire. The loss of the demolisher cannon is made up for in a lower points cost (not that it matters a whole lot in Apocalypse). The Stormsword is a toned down version of the Hellblade.
I don't think its worth taking these models if you are looking for a bigger advantage or something more powerful than a baneblade. The point of taking them is that you like the look of the model. It is just something different.

The really stupid thing is that the Shadowsword's Volcano Cannon has different rules to the Apoc book's Volcano Cannon. It's just one of the numerous mistakes that Warrick has managed to include in IA Apocalypse.

I think its stupid that the conversion kit is almost twice as expensive as the main tank body itself. For fW stuff you pay a pound per point and this is just outrageous.

They're not selling converstion kits yet, the prices are for whole models, Baneblades included.
So is the Shadowsword's Volcano Cannon even lamer than the one in Apoc? You know, a Turbolaser with fewer shots and a bigger template, just what one wants in a gun designed for taking out titans <insert sarcasm>.

1. Remember this is not a conversion kit. It is a complete model consisting of a cast turret assembly and the tread assembly from the plastic baneblade kit. At 50% the cost of the complete resin cast kits. This seems as close to reasonable pricing as FW is likely to get. Not bad really.
2. I don't think Warrick messed up. The Shadowsword volcano cannon rules were updated and revised to fit with APOC rules in Imperial Armour Appocalypse. I assume your irritation comes from the fact you have to buy a new IA book. I feel your pain, but an update for a new rules system is not unreasonable.

They have different rules. The Shadowsword one has a smaller template for no apparent reason.
I don't like having different versions of the same gun. It'd be like making an Autocannon on a Predator different to the AC in a Guard Infantry Squad.

I'm buying some of these.
3 Shadowswords rolling onto an apocalypse game will send titan owners into fits.
Finally close to reasonable prices from forgeworld. However in saying that not sure how much resin there is to be.
