Following the huge success of the World of Warcraft® Trading Card Game, Upper Deck Entertainment plans to release a World of Warcraft® Miniatures Game, which will be available in hobby and retail outlets in Fall 2008. Now you'll be able to act out your favorite World of Warcraft® moments with highly detailed 3D renderings of all the classes, including iconic characters like Warchief Thrall and fan-favorite Leeroy Jenkins!

The World of Warcraft® Miniatures Game will be UDE's debut in the collectible miniatures market, bringing in some of the industry's most talented sculptors from all over the world, including Jacques-Alexandre Gillois (France), Juan Navarro Perez (Spain), Stefan B. Niehues (Germany), and Steve Saunders (USA). Paint schemes were designed by Studio McVey. "The quality level of this product is unprecedented in the collectible miniatures category," said 20-year-veteran miniatures painter Mike McVey. "This is a product I am happy to put my name behind."

Each pre-painted miniature will be mounted on a uniquely engineered base, allowing it to serve both as a game piece and a collectible. In the spirit of the action and adventure of Blizzard's MMO, the Miniatures Game will feature standalone raid and dungeon scenarios, letting players play cooperatively against other players or fully automated dungeons.

"We are very excited to be entering the collectible miniatures category, and there is no better property for the hobby market than World of Warcraft," said World of Warcraft® Miniatures Product Manager and Lead Game Designer Justin Gary. "We worked closely with Blizzard to ensure that the miniatures met a high standard of quality and that the gameplay was true to the online experience."

A robust Organized Play structure will be launched to support the new World of Warcraft® Miniatures Game, including hobby in-store tournament programs, Darkmoon Faire tournament events, and National and World Championship tournaments.

The countdown has begun! As the official release draws closer, this site will be updated with pictures of the minis, details about gameplay, and downloadable demos. Stay tuned to WoWMinis.com and get ready for the next generation of miniatures gaming!

I wonder if the player of the original Leroy Jenkins is going to get any royalties out of this...oh, no, nevermind. That kind of thing is pre-empted in that License Agreement we never read.

Waitaminute, conspiracy theory working here. UD is producing a CMG of Blizzards WoW. Gav is moving to Blizzard to (suposedly) work on Star Craft II (?) Hmmm, do you think they'll take some advice from good 'ol Gav?

If this was marketed like 40k or something I would definitely be interested. However, I'm really not interested in getting back into the collectable miniatures scene again. It's a huge money sink and it's really sad when you look at all the minis you have that are absolute crap just so you could get one cool mini. Stupid Mage Knight.

It wasn't bad. It was fast and easy to learn. Unfortunately it didn't allow for very in-depth tactics and there were just certain combos of troops you had to take to win in a tourny. It also kind of broke down at really high point values. Very cool though for what it was.

Some of the WOW monsters would go great in my D&D campaign. I don't think I would buy packs of WOW figures put I would cherry pick figures that look cool on Ebay

Yea, I could see getting some figures for conversions, but honestly the idea of the game is not terribly appealing.
Now, if they were not collectible, I could easily see myself getting pieces I needed to make mini versions of the characters my wife and I have in game, maybe for like a Necromunda type game or something, or even playing little skirmish games with "dream team" set ups with our characters. Having to buy lots of random things to get what I want really kills any interest for me.

Idunno, I played the online game and even the board game. Both were fun,but both are more or less adventure and exploration games, not wargames.Ican see the producer making a war minis game and slapping a W0W sticker on it, but I don't think it will capture the feeling of W0W

There's already a lot more than just 2 fantasy miniatures games, bro.

And as Duncan_Idaho said, I heard that Andy Chambers is already working for Blizzard.

I'll be passing on this. I learned my sorry lesson about collectible miniatures games after Mechwarrior: Dark Ages. No thanks.

Chamleoneyes they could be going for a Warcraft 1-3 feel war game? They are most likely putting WoW on it because it is the most recognizable now a days.

No, not a wargame. Based on the website it's clearly a
dungeon crawl or instance run type of game, which is
why they're using larger miniatures.

Those penny arcade guys have me intrigued by the raid
level card game. Jerks.

I'm just a bit curious as to what (if anything) is going to make this game appealing to anyone but the collectible miniatures crowd and WOW fanboys. I mean none of those minis look very good to me, and I doubt the rules will be good enough to make up for them.

It's what's appealing to the businessman. Just imagine if even just
a tenth of those subscribers buy a blister pack just to see what's
shakin.

Oh, I'm not saying it's not going to be successful, and I certainly think there is a market for it, even if it does turn out to only be the people who are like "Hey, what's shakin'?"

My concern is how something like this is going to appeal to the more "hardcore" miniatures gamers and hobbyists.

But as you've stated, that really might not be something that's a significant concern, from a business sense. I guess I'm just saying if Blizzard does want to hook some of the more "serious" gamer crowd (and they very well might not want to), they're going to have to try a bit harder.

I guess what I'm saying is, if I was going to spend the money, I'd rather play regular WOW and not a crappy miniatures version of WOW.
