I was thinking about preordering the new 5ed book with the bolter box deal when I entered GWs online store for Spain, There I found that the box deal costs 95€ (149$) if I want it on spanish, comparing it with the US english edition that costs 90$ and taking into account the disaster GW made with vampire counts (5 out of 3 sentences are wrong) I´m going t skip this one.

Way to go GW, tease your clients with gorgeous stuff and then scare them stiff with selective overpricing.

So are you never buying it or just wait a long time, like until it goes intot he shops? Otherwise won't it prevent you playing games a fair bit?

So... what's stopping you from ordering it from the US, unless of course you want the Spanish version, in which case I'm sure there are online discounters in Spain.

I´m afraid that in Spain you won´t find cheap online places like in the US, the market is very small outside GW unfortunely. And I´m very sure that I´m not going to pay a premium just for living in the wrong country although I´m at Japan right now.
If the sourcebook reaches the shops here at a reasonable price I´ll get the basic ed but I already scraped the idea I had about getting the special ed one.

M.

PS: The last few spanish translation have been a mess. The VC dex it´s a joke rules wise I can´t say as I haven´t been able to see the english one but the fluff is so badly translated that at one point the dex goes on how whole vamp armies are commanded by skeletons, ghouls and zombies (you can imagine that the english one goes the other way around)

This amuses me living here in Southern California, because we have we have tons of Mexicans, etc. Practically everything is packaged bilingually in Ingles and in Spanish. Same with clerks and so forth.

IMO, the problem is that GWUS isn't in charge of converting the rulebook to en Espanol. Native Spanish speakers living here who would probably love to have a Spanish version of the rulebook. With the increased print volume for both US and Spain, the translation cost could be spread more broadly for a lower price to the customer.

So, the only news here are related to you

Being that English is a very accessible language, I wouldn't hope for them to coincide release dates. They want it done in english as fast as possible and the translations come next. I don't see what the big issue is here.

Complaining about those differences, look at the canadians or the australians. They pay premium for all their miniatures.

And nothing wrong with speaking two different languages. Latin ones as primary is especially good because of their adaptability.

GW hasn't managed to master the English language, so its not surprising that the Spanish version is worse.

The Canadians pay more since it is rather difficult to translate English into Canadian.

Oh wow to all the Spanish! They are forced to see buildings like this all day! And pay more money for books in their language! God WHY!? How ever shall we feed poor little Spanish Timmy? I feel that he and his ukulele shall once again go a wanting this Christmas...

Typeline, don´t pick on the Palacio de Telecomunicaciones AKA the cake. I like that building.
Destrado, my honor and my country have been insulted by your cheap remark. As an hidalgo I´ll have to wash this insult with your bluud you are not planning to come to Japan in the next few months aren´t you? If so bring your army and will shettle the issue.

PD: Vassal anyone? Is hard to play when you are 8 hours ahead GMT but I can try.
PDD: Elvira Navarro was the lady responsable for the mockery of the VC translation, if her name appears on any of your codex I´d recomend to play the rules backwards as you´ll be closer to the true rules then.

Awww! Just reading that gives me a warm fuzzy feeling as you, John, actually believe that GW would pass the savings on to us. That's both heartwarming and sad at the same time man. Brings a tear to my eye.

When has GW ever given us a lower price on something?

BTW, if you are going to translate english to spanish you still need at least two versions, one for Spain and one for most South American countries if not you can find little mistakes that will ensure hours of enjoyment and shame for your clients/staff like:
Coger (Spain) = To pick up
Coger (Mexico) = To feth

And a few more that right know don´t come to mind.

Yeah, but then you say Tomar rather than Coger. For spaniards going to Mexico it´s always a riot when we say "dónde se coge el autobus?" (where do you take the bus?) to a mexican. A friend used to answer "You can´t unless you use the exhaust pipe"

I wouldn't mind going there, as a Cavalheiro I'll take the gauntlet! If only you weren't so far away, we'd settle this the manly way (over some heated saké) and then we'd play 40k. BTW, you should pick up some anime there, the products we get here from Selecta Visíon are a bit on the crappy side...

If you ever come to PT, be sure to visit Póvoa de Varzim. I'll challenge you to a francesinha and a night full of bagaço... The game could wait until the hangover was over

Anyway, it seems like I'll have to order the new big book from your homeland... at least the 40k book has free P&P, don't know if this applies to all products with that order (seems like it) and to the Iberian peninsula (not so sure).

Apparently it's pretty hard to translate into Australian, too. Come on, AU$200 for the Collectors/Gamers Edition vs US$90? Our dollar is worth US96c! Even *with* postage, it'd be significantly cheaper just to buy from the US and have it shipped here.

Ridiculous. Paying for convenience? No convenience is worth an extra 100% after shipping and exchange costs for exactly the same product from the same company (edit: I suppose it's technically not the same company, but you get my point).

I wonder when GW will start with the dissclaimer:
This book is not intended for use outside the US. To do so will be a violation of the warranty

Sony and other companies love that stuff on their products.

The British have that problem with some new war planes by all accounts, the US say we cant fly them out side of Heartfordshire (May not be right spelling) because of some contract clause/dissclaimer. So I wouldn't put it past GW to do the same

Really? Why is it that a can of soda bought in bulk from my grocery store is $0.25, but it's $0.50 when I buy individually from the vending machine, and whopping $1.00 when I want it cold from the gas station? Why is it that a $1 super-soda at the convenience store costs $5 at the movies?

Could it be this magical thing called "convenience"?

If it makes you feel better, 90 u.s. dollars now feels like paying 149 did a few years ago. The dollar is weaker, the economy is weaker, and people have less and less fun money to throw around due to gas prices. If gw was to make the prices fair and bump up all american product to spain's levels, they would go bankrupt in a year from loss of sales in america. Not that the situation your paying for is fair in any way, just saying they cant really afford to lose their clientelle in america right now, it would be the last nail in the coffin (although im hopefully optomistic that warhammer online will give them some much needed revenue just for the use of their IP)
