Very cool. Hopefully that will attract some more folks to the hobby in your area. We can always use more starting space marine players. Right?

Is this such a good idea given they just shut a whole bunch of stores and the current economic climate?

In regards to the US, the stores that have been closed over the past few years were those not in the currently focused-upon metros (ie they were opened under a different plan that has since been revised) or stores that were closed and then moved to a better location within the same metro.

Given the current plan, I would expect to see many new Hobby Centers opening up over the next few years in the US.

I guess they worked out where stores would be profitable and have started opening them there, rather than willy, nilly all over the place.

Next time I'm in the area I'll check it out...

Must be nice. Closest GW store to me is 6 hours away or so. And yet we have 5 FLGS's in town that sell a crap load of GW product.

The wife has allowed me to go to any convention/tourney I want in a couple of years time, anywhere in the world.

I'm made it to 11 GWOz stores, 5 in the US, 2 in Canada, over 20 in the UK, The HQ in nottingham and several stores on mainland Europe.

Sure its out of the way but sooner or later I'll get there...

Same here the nearest one is 260 miles in houston, you would think they would maybe think of opening one in Tampa or New Orleans.

There is the Battle Bunker in Memphis TN. Of course except for the tables there isn't really a 'whole' lot else to look at that a well stocked LGS wouldn't have (from personal experience). Forgeworld items are there though and thats a plus - if you have the money to spend.

Why not write to GW and ask if they have any plans? You'd think if the get enough questions for an area they'd at least give it close consideration!

They are mostly staying away from mall stores now. GW's new policy is to have a single mall store, maybe 2 in a metro area as recruitment sights with a fair number of stores in strip malls and then a battle bunker. At least this was the plan about 6 months ago when I spoke with the then bunker manager in Los Angeles. He's gone to run his own FLGS in arizona but I'm pretty sure the strategy hasn't changed to much as the new US management was in full control at that point.

The closest you have are the near suburbs of Skokie and Oak Park, but I know they
aren't exactly near for you if you don't have a car.

It's funny how they open stores. Here in philadelphia we have two stores, the franklin mills store and the echelon village store in jersey, within about a 30 min drive of each other. I'm literally exactly in the middle and can drive 15 min north or east and get to one. It's kinda nice.

I live in Baton Rouge Louisiana. Houston is the nearest place. I can understand having 2 stores in cities with a population greater than a certain amount, but completely ignoring Louisiana, Florida( what the christ), Mississipi, Georgia. Just doesnt make sense to me.

Let's not argue , New Orleans is undoubtedly the greatest city in the world, why would you not have a store there? Although, I can just see the arguments at the store when you go get drinks and Hurricanes at the bar....

Wait yeah its slowed to not have a store in New Orleans.

Also, if New Orleans eventually floods, the merchandise will be easily recoverable through diving as it is metal and plastic.

This is a excellent way for me, I mean GW to recover their miniatures from New Orleans in the event of said Flood. ( Dibs on Space MArines)

FYI kinda intersting because if I remember correctly where he is talking about is farm country.

Face it, rents to high in downtown. BTW check the website but I think the count would be more like 8 stores in suburban Chicagoland.

Take the Green line out to Oak Park, once the store closes at 8 you can grab a drink at Poor Phil's before you get on the train home.

Not a single one in the Indy area. Which is good. It would probably end up killing three stores, including itself if one went in.

Yeah, I gather these new under-water stores are all the rage, just make sure you use non-water-soluble paint on your minis.
