Right, look at a Holiday in the States at some point.
Flights I know about price wise, but what about Hotels/Motels. Not especially fussed about high quality, but I'd like to avoid no quality. The more I can save on accomodation, the more I can spend on food, beer and having fun and that.
Any reccomendations as to where to go and what to see?

Yellowstone sounds interesting. Thats the one with the Geysers is it not?
San Francisco also appeals to some degree, mostly so I can hire a car and attempt a Bullitt shortly before fleeing the armed police and vainly claiming diplomatic immunity.
Hollywood...nah. Seen Los Angeles on Telly. Not somewhere I want to get lost in.
Smokey Mountains? Can't I just go to any old Mountain and have a cigarette?
Vegas...hmmm...Tempting, but don't want to push me luck.

I'd definetly recommend Las Vegas. When I went there, I stayed at the Monte Carlo. It's not exactly the coolest Casino in the world, but I guarantee that you'll be able to book a hotel there much cheaper than anywhere but Circus Circus (And I wouldn't stay there under any conditions). There are plenty of actual hotels around town, but chances are that you won't get free buffets, a pool on the roof, etc. Las Vegas is definetly the most entertaining city I've ever been to. Plus, from there, it's like a few hours drive to go see the Grand Canyon, which is definetly worth it. (If you don't want to end up spending too much money, just set aside a certain amount that you'll let yourself gamble with.)

Is Vegas expensive to stay at, or is it generally the Casino where they seperate you from the cash? Not a massive gambler you see.
Mind you, wouldn't mind a shot on the big pay out Puggy's. Quite a jammy sod at times, so you never know.

Surprisingly, everything in Las Vegas is very reasonably priced (Sorry that I don't remember the price of my hotel room, that was something like five years ago). The Casinos are where they make nearly all their money (Because the Casinos ARE the motels, for the most part, they don't need to make room and board particularly expensive. And as mentioned, most of them offer free buffets at an actually decent quality). Just know that you won't experience anything like Las Vegas anywhere else in the world. Sure, there's a lot of cheese you have to dig through (The numerous impersonation shows come to mind), but it is worth every second of it. And on top of that, you're within about two hours' drive of one of the world's greatest natural landmarks. The only really problem I can forsee is that Vegas is friggin HOT. I mean there's hardly a day when the temperature will dip below 100 degrees fahrenheit, unless you're planning on going soon (In the winter).

I hear the Las Vegas Hilton is a good deal, being off the strip but still near to it.

Right now Vegas is a really good deal as rooms are super cheap due to the sluggish economy. Stay in some of the older hotels on the strip or downtown. Let me know when you are coming and I'll give you some recommendations.

Cool cool.
Saw one place advertising rooms for $20, which is about £15 in proper money. Then again, our economy is up the spout as well and the Sterling is flagging somewhat!
I reckon I can be ready around October time. Nice break that.

I went to Vegas last year and stayed at the Planet Hollywood which, being right in the middle of the strip and accross from the Belagio is great.
Also their buffet at $15US whilst not the cheapest is certainly not the most expensive and was fantastic.
See the grand canyon whilst there. Don't be a tight wad- do the flight, helicopter, drift down the river tour of the north rim. Most excellent part of a month in the US.
I gambled with $20 and left with $20 after 1 hour. You have to walk through the casinos to get to the shops/entertainment but you don't have to gamble. They aren't holding guns to you're head and making you gamble.
We spent 3 days looking at casinos and the wife and I had a blast. But we still didn't see them all.

Personally, I'm not huge on Vegas, and find LA to be rather diffuse.
I enjoy big cities like SF and NYC better.

NYC was most excellent and Washington is great as everything is so close together and you could spend a couple of days easily in the museums alone.
Boston, for history is also great and the wife and I got alot out of doing the freedom trail one day we were there.

Yeah living on the Eastern Side of the US I would recomend going to the DC Baltimore area as some of the greatest museums in the US are located there. Best places are DC's mall (giant grassy area surrounded by all the museums) and Baltimore's Inner harbor (Beautiful views, great shopping and some really cool museums)

If you do end up near San Francisco, I'd recommend spending some time a bit south, Monterey and Santa Cruz are both pretty nice places with a good amount to see and do.
Vegas is fun, even if you don't gamble. Also, it has an In-N-Out. You should have In-N-Out. I always plan a trip when I dive through Vegas (5 more days!) back to CA.
