Since people routinely say blanket statements 'we love X' and 'we hate X' trying to speak for the whole community, I thought I'd run some polls on the bigger figures in GW to see what people really think of them...

Keep personal attacks out of this forum and out of this website. It goes without saying that very few people here will have actually met him so this is based entirely on his contributions to GW. If you have met him then anecdotes are welcome so long as they are not rude or against the rules of this website.

As for me, positive opinion, he is a nice chap in person and his old battle reports were amongst the very best. I still want to start gorkamorka when I read one of the fiction-heavy WD battle reports he did back when that was on general release.

He seems to alternately win big and lose big.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I am neutral on Gav. I think he is a great with the big picture, but should leave the details to others more suited to that task.

He's put some good stuff forward, I dont play fantasy but the dark elves book looked cool, even if apparently it's a bit too powerful. His battle reports and WD contibutions were always quite good as well, as was his dark angels novel. Positive opinion.

CSM dex could have been awsome, but NO! said Gav while painting blue minis and chaos codex was cast into blue paint.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

I qute honestly haven't read anything he's done, until I do, my opinion will remain neutral...kinda like my opinion on the Twilight series, yes, I know everyone and their dog seems to hate it, but I did not read it, so I'm not going to judge until I do.

I voted negative. Want to stress that it's not at all personal - he seems like a nice enough bloke. But some of his 'contibutions' to the rules have been very detrimental, his rationalisations for his mistakes just didn't hold water.

Voted very positive solely for the fact that he went against GW's norms by actually reaching out to the community. More of this the better but considering Gav got trolled and basically shat on by the community it doesn't bode well for future interaction to be more common place.

He did that cause he is freelance now (must be against GW policy to talk to communtiy). And I admit that takes serious balls. But he just waffed on about nothing.

3rd edition Eldar codex was enough for me.

Fairly negative. Though I do respect him for at least feigning to pay attention to the fans on the internet.

I thought his fiction was mediocre at best. I'm neutral on him though, mostly because I didn't start playing until after he did CSM 4.0. But from what I've seen csm were a helluvalot more interesting before.

I tend to like Gav Thorpe. Seems nice, wrote a fantastic DE Army Book and his fiction is great.

I'm not exactly fond of the Chaos Codex, but no one gets everything right. (If they release those Legion codices, I'll be positively ecstatic)

Nothing terribly against the guy...

...until he put out the tripe that is 4th Edition CSM Codex >_>

That book singlehandedly made me lose all interest in collecting CSM, and I now have a Apoc-sized CSM force doing nothing but collecting large amount of dust.

Im going with neutral. Im really not sure what the hell he does over there anymore. I too used to have a bunch of old white dwarfs that he had battle reports in. Infact I used to have one where him and a few other GW staffers made their own Gorkamorka clans and stuff. Damn I wished I would of kept those.
Anywho, neutral

Bringing back the "roll for the special ability of the Possessed Chaos Marines" from the terrible 3rd Edition Chaos Marine Codex into the current one and having the roll take place AFTER deployment was one of those moves as a developer that showed some serious lack of understanding of what makes cool models fun to play with even for the most casual player.

Everyone I know, including GW staff, think the current Chaos Marine Codex could have been more characterful. I don't think it's one of Gav Thorpe's better efforts.

That's the understatement of the Century. Codex: CSM gutted the army of any character and imagination.

Oh sure, you can make a tournament winning list with it. But they all tend to look pretty similar and as a result playing the army in a tournament setting will virtually guarantee you will see Khorne Berzerkers, Plague Marines, and two Lash Whip HQs with some Obliterators.
