Are you a GW apologist?
I am the epitomy of GW angst and I'll cut your face if you suggest that again!
Sometimes I agree with the negativity because I think its valid, other times I feel that people get stuck on the Hatorade bandwagon.
Come to think of it, every time someone whines or gripes on the forum I seem to be defending them.
Absolutely, I luve GW.
I have no view one way or the other

I'm sure everyone thinks that about themselves

I find that I often end up on the apologist side, often not because I agree with GW but because I hate seeing the same whines being repeated for over a decade now. The new Codex changed the way some units perform? OMFG THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE!!!eleven!

I try to keep my griping about poorly written rules or lack of playtesting offline. Back in 3rd I probably did whine my fair share of times.

Now it is more like "eh, typical, no need to get excited"

There will always be something to whine about, as I see it.

Yes, there are things that are wrong with this game. No, I don't think GW is the devil, however.

They're the monopoly, and whenever someone reaches top dog there are always those that despise them for it. However, it must be said that GW has screwed up many, many times in the past.

I have to admit I disagree with alot of the hate, but I'm not without my own complaints. Most notably the updating of codexes that don't need it nearly as much as Dark Eldar/Daemonhunters/Necrons/ect.

The abuse of greatness is when it disjoins remorse from power

I agree with pretty much all of the hate, and I don't think my opinion is going to change any time soon. My friends and I commonly playtest new concepts for rules (see: Single-Phase turns) and refuse to buy models from them.

I'm starting to see how they're never going to decide they've made enough money off of the marines, and because of that, I refuse to give them any of my money.

#2 GW makes a lot of mistakes, but some people seem to want to nail GW to an Iron Cross, and burn it as a heretic.

It's a company, and I personally believe that the staff that plays the games, does as much as it can, to further the games best interests. They're hands are just tied in some matters, because the corporation is furthering it's best interests.

Well if people really do hate GW, then just don't buy their product anymore. It's not like if you don't buy some GW product at least once a month you will die or something... well for some people that maybe true.

Eternal Plague

Every gaming company pisses on or pisses off their fan base at one time or another. Every time Hasbro forces WOTC to change Dungeons and Dragons, it always irks me in certain ways. For instance, here I thought 3.5 was the fixer to help DnD, and then bam they move right into 4.0 and feth the system all up.

Totally turned me off to DnD in almost all aspects.

I don't know why, but gamers seem whinier about their passions than other people. My logging buddies never sit around and complain that "you know the new Black and Decker line is going to gak. Black was fine, but when they brought on Decker it all went to hell in a handbasket." I don't know if it's because we have a higher degree of standards for our hobbies, or if we are harder to please, or if the public (and near anonymous) forum of the internet brings out the sixty year old stereotypical Jewish woman in all of us, or what.

I often find myself bored by anti-GW rants. If people really hated GW as much as they claim, then they would find a different hobby. I think that GW is certainly the best games company in business today. They have excellent customer service, a good product line, and understand how to make the gaming business a business without sacrificing quality.

I think the fact that they actually play their own games probably has something to do with it.

It's not to say I don't have things I don't like about GW. I wish they would just let the Tyranid army follow WH40K Squats into the dark hole of 'never speak of this again.' I've also been less than pleased with the majority of the Horus Heresy line of novels. But I try not to, as the poll puts it, 'jump on the Haterade bandwagon.' Pretty much any negative opinion I have is already on this forum. Probably multiple times. With more 4Chan references and spelling errors to boot. There is very little point in my griping about the few problems I have with GW, especially since their good work far, FAR, exceeds the areas in which they have let me down.

Satellite of Love

I "love" GW and have few complaints. My few major complaints center on quality issues that have arisen in the past few years, specifically with the Codex/Army books and the figure/army cases.

Just before the release of the most current Dark Elves army book GW changed to a new binder-printer. All the Army/Codex books between Dark Elves and Warriors of Chaos suffered from severe binding problems. I am still seeing books with that problem today as not all customers realized they could get an exchange. I have had to have several books from that period exchanged for me and my son. It's a nuisance and it shouldn't have to happen. Customer Service and most store managers are aware of the problem and have been good during that period especially at making exchanges, but it's a drag having new books fall apart just days or weeks after you start using them. GW really needs to look at this kind of thing more carefully, it leaves a very bad impression on customers.

The other big problem is the army/figure cases. The hinges and latches are weak spots that break all the time even for the most careful owners. These cases are otherwise sturdy. They are also very expensive! I wouldn't mind the price so much if the quality was there, but the weak latches and hitches often leave owners with a very expensive and useless hunk of plastic. They are also near impossible to repair effectively. If GW wants to command the price they do on those cases they need to adress this problem. I've stopped buying their figure cases because of it.

Well, I think I tend to defend them a bit, as at a fundamental level I realize I enjoy playing their games and buying and painting their minis. Not saying they are perfect or even "good," or anything, just recognizing that they do have something to offer that I consider to be worthwhile.

I think perhaps that 'apologist' is the wrong term to use here. It is one of the more inflamatory labels used by certain groups to target their philosophical opponents. Still, better than 'denier'.

I am not an apologist/squealing fanboi of GW. I am aware there are other games companies/model companies out there and if GW does something I don't like - I'm free to use the alternatives.

Down here in the antipodean colonies, we aren't as hidebound by the "GW models or nothing" tournament mentality they push up in their native habitats. We tend to be ruled by the "if it's cool, it's ok" attitude (and incidentally, some of our PP game TOs also follow this mantra).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

GW are easy to understand, they have investors, they need to make a profit, they make said profit as quickly and as easily as possible, therefore they change the top selling most popular item the most often as they make the most $$$ out of doing so and thus keep their investors happy.

"You smell dat? Do you smell dat? Napalm, son. Nofing else in da galaxy smells like dat. I love da smell of napalm in da morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for twelve hours. When it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' 'ummie body. Da smell, you know dat gasoline smell, da whole hill. Smelled like... victory."

I think there's a balance - I agree that the minis are some of the best out there but they charge very high prices and any more price hikes is going to make it impossible for me to continue.

EG: When mantic can produce and survive at 50p better than GW zombies I don't see why GW charge £20 for crappy ones

I came in at 3 out of 4 on the GW love chart.

I mostly see an endless sea of drivel and whining when it comes to opinion about GW, but I can't give them all 4 stars because, buried in all the garbage, there is the occasional nugget of truth.

I chose number 2, while I disagree with some GW decisions, I also find they are the best wargamming company I've seen.

I have noticed some people have devoted most/all of their posts to hate on GW, which makes me wonder why on earth they'd post on a wargaming forum (especially a WHFB and 40k-central forum like Dakka Dakka) if they hate GW so much. It gets to the point that I skip over their posts because of this.
