A question for those in the know:

Will the current range of army books be replaced soon or are they planning on continued use?

I am thinking of getting back into Fantasy but would rather avoid shelling out for the rulebook + army books only to find in 6 months time a whole new set of books are released. I realise that currently they have 'retconned' the previous army books so they fit the new edition rules (with the PDF FAQs) but does anyone know if this is being seen as a long term solution or merely a stop-gap before they produce a whole raft of 8 ed army books?

AFAIK it's a stop gap measure that will be phased out as each and every army gets its new book.

I figured as much but given GW's lead time, I guess we won't be seeing some of these new books for some time?

All books out right now are currently usable in 8th edition. Some books suffer more then others, like Brettonians, so they may be first in the line up for newer books.

As far as I've heard though, there isn't any strong rumor for which book will be released next.

hmm..hmm.. debate rages whether it will be Tomb Kings or Orcs and Goblins as the first book....there's mutterrings about xmas time.. which isn't impossible, but I reckon Q1 next year is the safest bet. I wouldn't be surprised if we see more "stand alone" release like the new demon and forthcoming High Elf models as well before and up to the next release.

Daft as it (kinda) sounds, I would expect the release order to be mroe model driven rather than rules compatability or power issues. *shrugs*

I think it boils down to me buying the relevant books on ebay and then suck it and see!

At any rate, I am planning Vampire Counts, Dwarves and Elves (using the Mantic ranges) in the meantime.

Do people still use the pre-made movement trays by the way, or is it a case of make your own now that the unit sizes have changed?
