When painting space marines everybody is riddled by the question, "Which chapter?". I chose to go with the spearhead of the Imperium, the Emperors finest....... (Drumroll) THE ULTRMARINES!!! I have currently only painted a tactical squad, With a Scout Squad, Scout Bike Squad, Dreadnought, SM Commander, and a Terminator squad to go. (I'm overwhelmed..... Help me....)
Anyway, I'll come with the pictures:
Yet to be highlighted and the commander needs a headpaint.
More to come tomorrow!

If your family is mad at you, Ogres are the way to go. No one could be mad at Ogres. But if you come out and they demand to know what you're wasting your time on and you hold up a rat, you're not going to make any friends.

Well, after a quick trip to my LGS I have the SM Codex! And I love it.

When you are painting try to leave the exposed parts of joints black (armpit, back of the knee, inside of the elbow) it helps to break up the ocean of blue.
Thanks for the tips Ma55ter_fett, yeah lol, I am painting my terminators. And chowderhead13, thanks! And yes, this is my first army and probably my first time painting since grade 3.

The blue looks a bit flat; did you try highlighting/shading on it?
Basic colorscheme looks just right for s. Your paint's really crisp for a beginner! I should know, my red/silver smeared Necrons that I first painted... Let's just say they looked like I was dunking the miniature in the paint.
Thanks necromam, they haven't been highlighted yet so thats why there flat.

I second the highlighting and painting the exposed "soft armor" a different color. Have you considered adding a wash too? All things considered these guys are looking great for a first army!
Casual wargamer, casual painter, casual grad student. I can do formal though, I do own a tuxedo T-shirt.
Sorry for the lack of updates, but school is getting in the way. I plan to highlight the above guys this weekend.

Some solid advice already SpaceMarineCollector, and your models so far are very neat and show great brush control. 2 of the absolute fundamentals of painting.
As was already said, if you leave the recesses in the armor like where one armor plate touches the next with a black line, it will make it look like the blue plates are actually on them and have depth, not that they are blue all over. A quick and easy way to do this on your guys is to NOT highlight them yet. Get a pot of badab black wash ( or very watered down chaos black) and paint it over their armor. It will pool in the recesses for you and darken them. Then to highlight, take your original blue colour and either paint it on the plates leaving the recesses dark, or add a little white to it and do the same if you want them to be a little brighter than their current blue
I hope this does not sound patronising, I just think these models would look awesome with a little shading! Looking forward to seeing updates.

Couple of guys I just painted, I'm going to be highlighting on everyone after I have the basic stuff done on everyone.

Nice start. I think some quick refining a few details and some highlighting will really make these guys look great
4250 points of Blood Angels goodness, sweet and silky W12-L6-D4
1000 points of Teil-Shan (my own scheme) Eldar Craftworld in progress 800 points of unassembled Urban themed Imperial Guard 650 points of my do-it-yourself Tempest Guard 675 points of Commoraghs finest!
The Dude - "Jackie Treehorn treats objects like women, man."
Thanks, as stated the highlighting and special details will come last. Please comment more guys, it keeps me motivated!

Its so good to see a proper Ultramarines Player these days. I like the paint jobs and I think that with some decent wash use you could make a really good loking force. But all aside I'm just happy that there are some people out there that don't hate Ultramarines for being "generic" and see them for what they are, an amazing force with the best Heroes in the Game. For Ultramar !

The two will fire at each other, but seeing as though they are both using lead balls for ammo damage will be done to neither one although Jimmy's clothes will have a hole in it and Ryan is already naked(save for the top hat), so he's all good.
The duel will continue until the song "Dancing in the Moonlight" by King Harvest begins to play in the background, at that point the two will begin to do the Charleston followed by the Dougie. After the song ends both sides will have their dancing skills judged by Andy, Colt, and Vegas with Vegas being the only one to judge Ryan's dancing because Andy and Colt refused to watch a naked man in a top hat boogie. Ryan will be infuriated with the results and sue for discrimination which will end up in the cancelling of the hit cable television show "Monster Mash".
