Very nice read, I am surprised that Jay did not run a Mantle of Ophelia on his Canoness (immune to first ID). I use it to make sure she can take on dreads in relative safety.

Its good to see SoB can still take on the new Codices as well. I would be interested to see a more Immolator heavy list take on yours as well.

What would you say was the 'scariest' unit on the field based on your experience with the SoB?

Yeah I'm not familiar with the codex and wargear to know why he chose what he did. He did end up with a list that had 47 sisters, 25 guard, and 8 vehicles which is scary at 2,000pts. Taking rhinos over immolators probably freed up enough points to do that. He had a flamer in each squad (the one use wargear one) and a squad with 3 flamers total so he probably didn't need the killyness of immolators.

The scariest thing to me was exorcists of course. str8 ap1 means no FnP for my MC's. They outrange my hive guard and av13 is no joke. I did a decent job suppressing them, but the one turn they were both mobile and not shaken, he 1-rounded a tervigon.

The cannonesses with str5/6 and up to 7/8 with the faith power, and invuln saves created a dillemma. This was mostly due to me being stupid and sending in venomthropes which he killed during my turn freeing him up to assault anything he wanted during his turn. My tyrant made short work of one. I probably should have sent in a carnifex against the other instead of saving it for shooting vehicles and sending the venoms.

It is always a balance with SoB, you lose out on some bodies but for 160 points (as compared to a standard squad of 10 w/ specials) you can get 5 SoB with 2x Melta in an Immolator.

Exorcists are definitely intimidating, but also a bit random. A few low missile rolls at the start of the game can spell death (then again shooting off 6 is pretty awesome too..)

In my experience the best way to kill a Canoness is to bury her in a pile of Gaunts - she has a 2++ but she is only T3 and has 3 attacks. They can overwhelm her, whereas she excels at taking down expensive single models like dreads, fexes, et cetera.

Good battle. Mech sisters are tough. If not for my hive guards when I played against them, I don't think I could have won. In my game, I just left his 3 exorcists alone as the only ranged gun I had was 1 rupture cannon. Probably worked out all the better as I concentrated on destroying his mobility and getting the easier kill points.

Good luck on your next battle against him. Oh, and take more hive guards. They're great in an all-comer's list.

Yeah I just bought 2 more hive guard blisters. Haven't assembled them yet but I reckon I'll need more than my standard 4 for NOVA.

I have 9! Hive guards are the best. This is now my standard 2K nid list:

Hive Tyrant - 2x TL-Devourers, Old Adversary
1x Tyrant Guard
Hive Tyrant - 2x TL-Devourers
1x Tyrant Guard

3x Hive Guards
3x Hive Guards
3x Hive Guards

Tervigon - Catalyst, Cluster Spines, Toxin Sacs
10x Termagants
Tervigon - Catalyst, Cluster Spines, Toxin Sacs
10x Termagants

3x Biovores
3x Biovores
Tyrannofex - Cluster Spines, Desiccator Larvae, Rupture Cannon

2000 pts

Sometimes I swap out the 2 tyrants for the Swarmlord + 2 lash whip tyrant guards and some genestealers. Nowadays, to compete IMO, you need to have a tyranid army that can shoot as well as it can assault. Yep, that's the next generation of competitive nids (the only exception is if you are playing an all-reserves Tyranid army).

That looks like a pretty brutal list. I'd totally use it but I'm short 1 tyrant, 3 hive guard, and 5 biovores lol. Maybe I'll build up to it.

Do you have any batreps with that list?

Yeah.

2000pts Tyranids vs Witch Hunters

Sometimes I use the Swarmlord with 2 guards instead of the 2 tyrants.

Sometimes I also swap out the t-fex + 3 biovores for 2 trygons.

Usually, the hive guards and tervigon+termagant base stays the same.

Nice batrep. Definately harder lists than the ones from my match. I think I may go back to my tyrannofex for a bit. The extra armor and wounds I think is worth it over the venomfexes.

Oh, BTW, here's another battle I had using my nids against the new Dark Eldar at 2500 points. It was a tough, tough battle. A tyranid assault army would just get massacred by this type of army.

Calm Celestian

FWIW

Jump troops are Seraphim. There is an elite unit called Celestians which are essentially Battle Sisters with some stat and rule buffs.

Heavy Weapons are Retributors. I still remember, although I have taken an oath to never play them again. I mean, why not take three Exorcists?

"Flamer thingy" is Brazier of Holy Fire.

"Artificer armor" is Cloak of Saint Aspira.

I don't get your opponents choice of allies; Sisters can do the four-melta thing themselves and a couple of Infantry squads with heavy weapons in Chimeras? What's that about?

If you want allies, try Al'Rahem and a power blob! Throw in a Witch Hunters priest and you've got a killing machine!

The batrep is well done, the pictures are nice and you guys obviously have lovely terrain.

There is a bit in this report that is just hilarious:

"He tries to regroup his fleeing celestian by making her fearless but fails!"

How did he roll less than one with two dice?

So as not to threadjack hvy3mynd's batrep, I'll answer this question on my battle report thread. Just click on the link above.

Yeah sorry for the misnaming of units, I've never browsed the codex.

My opponent brought some guard because his list was originally 1850 and I requested 2000 for the nova format.
