Hello everyone longtime lurker, wanted to get anyones opinion on some of my work. most are still in the WIP stage and most are not 100% accurate to Codex Minatures, but wanted to get a 40k fans perspective on some of my images.

Let me know what you think.

Standard Space Marine:

Terminator:

and i apologize if i posted in the wrong section.

Those are pretty darn cool, must have taken a while. My only slight criticism is that something looks a bit off with the shoulder pads, especially on the terminator. Still, i'd give them a rating of awesome.

I agree, awesome renders, but the shoulder pads are a little large.

What were you going to do with them?

Lovely detail, but the proportions are way off. I'd suggest rescaling everything a fair bit. You're definetly on your way to something awesome though, keep up with it.

I love the terminator - looks like a properly-shaped human could actually fit in it, unlike th GW models

Thx for the input guys, will scale them down and see how they look as far as the ShoulderPads. (its hard as the reference "minatures" have the Pads making up a majority of the model)

Will post new pics soon.

Very nice I love the grenades and mag's attached to the marine. Looks like he could actually get stuck into a fight and not run out of ammo in the first 20 seconds.

Poor orks... Why can't they be the good guys for once?

I really like the space marine helmet, it all has a really high-tech look to it. Hope to see more.

Vandil - I agree about the magazines, biggest pet peeve about not seeing them with at least a standard combat load (we used 210 rounds or 7 full magazines with more in our rucks while i was in the military) when referencing Space marines. currently he has six on his side and one in his bolter.

Mr. Nobody - Thanx, the marine helmet took a while, went through several iterations before i was happy with it, i'll slap some color to show you the near end result. Got several more models.

Awesome work.

I agree with the shoulderpad thing - the marines and termies look top heavy but the quality and detail is really good. All in all, very nice.

Yeah, I think you've got the proportions right (as in realistic), it's GW that screwed it up. Great stuff

These are brillant , I like the design of the Space Marines armour which looks much better than the GW version. What 3D Program did you use to create them?

The biggest indicator someone is a loser is them complaining about 3d printers or piracy.

Thank you al for the comments, im posting some of my other character models here (i have not scaled the ShoulderPads as of yet)

Scout is perfect IMO.
The greaves on all the marines and the terminator look a touch off but they remind me of the Mk.13 aarmour or whatever armour that they showed in the Dornian Heresy so it is fine IMO could easily represent some advanced armour marks.

These are all awsome, the only thing I was wandering is why does the scout have regular bolter mags on him if he has a sniper?

lol about the scout bolter mags, i had originally designed him with a flamer, then switched him too a Heavy Bolter (the one that is not mounted to a backpack) then the Bolter and finally the sniper Rifle.

Didnt change out his magazines when i rendered him tho.

That is top grade work there my friend, but my only concern is that the Terminator Armour isn't wide enough girth around the shoulder and chests.

One of the hardest things to do IMHO concerning modeling Space Marines is to get the proportions correct. So many images (3d and 2d) have this enourmous character but either

A: his shoulders are 3x as broad as a regular human being or

B: his head is the size of a grape. or

C: he looks like his armor is a bodysuit

In my earlier models (not suitable to show to anyone) i fell into this trap and the renders were simply not right.
That was because i started modeling the armor parts first then tried to simply model the head or carapace from that.

best way is to actually model the whole body including the head, then simply place the armor around it as necessary. so inside the models i actually have a fully rigged body. i'll see if i can find some of my WIP to show you guys.

anyways thats why some parts may seem dispraportionate

Amazing work!

You should seriously look at applying a job with Relic and show them your work.

I don't think the shoulder pads are very off they look fairly scaled.

All in all very good work.

Would be looking forward to what else you come up with in the future

Eye of Terra.

I do this (3d modeling) for a living and I must say your work is pretty darn good. Your level of 'texturing' gives away your skill level.

Are you using Max or Maya here?

One beef, however, and not about your ability, is that those shoulder pads look too big. Almost anatomically incorrect so-to-speak. Umm, not that a Space Marine is anatomically correct in the first place...

Space Marines in most artwork and indeed the figures are completely anatomically incorrect and more often than not vary in scale from artist to artist. I think that is what many are having trouble with.

When I do my character models, I build up from a basic human form. This allows the figure to 'weild' its 'bulk' better and gives a greater sense of realism. How bulky a Space Marine suit of powered armor is supposed to be without looking cartoonish is debateable.

The basic problem with them looking off are the proportions - the eyes are too big or too small, the legs are stubby, the upper body is definitely too big (look how long is stomach has to be), the shoulders don't connect properly. You might wanna give us some frontal and side views if you seek criticism. That girl in scout armor is way off as well and looks like a fat hobbit in that suit. you might wanna make the head bigger.

A good way to make realistic proportions in 3d models is to draw over them the basic shape of a human body as you can judge that sketch easier than some space marine armor. And space Marines still have human bodies, even if with superhero-proportions. I however like that you added a lot of details which is sadly overlooked with 40k renderings. Those huge, feature-lacking armor plates of GW space marines would never look good on film e.g. as there simply isn't enough detail. So you adding some makes them very suited for CGI flicks and I think your choice of lines, exhausts and vents etc. is a very good one - I think those appeal the most and GW should learn from your example. Either way, you're making very decent progress!

Seriously, that Scout is perfect. Excellent work. Also, don't sweat the bolter mags, remember scouts are rookies, he is just carrying them for some of his older brother marines.

1) It's not a girl...
2) You are complete off base. I think he got it very accurate for an overly athletic man wearing heavy body armour. His proportions on the power armour seem a bit off, but for the scout? I strongly disagree.
