Hello dakka! I thought I would share my raider with those of you that haven't already seen it on my P&M blog.

It's the head raider of the scarab prince corsairs, an exiled band of dark eldar, led by a rather insane Archon who claims to hear the true voice of Cegorach.

Most of these pictures are taken at various different times during the painting process and I will note that the raider is finished and I will upload images of it's completed insanity when my I get my camera back.

Enjoy...

While I am aware of Egyptian hieroglyphs and their meanings, this is more an eldar adaptation.

The eyes represent the ever seeing eye of Cyrax the scarab prince (the archon). The sun rise represents the embarked squad, the warrior squad "Dawn's Grace", their name and symbol reflects their first line duties.

The line of text on the raider side reads in my own bastardised text of dark eldar runes "Blood shall feed Khaine eternal" and the text on the sail "Seth's Chosen".

The work on the hull looks a LOT better than the work on the sail. Probably because white is a pain in the ass to work with.

Either way, came out nice. good job!

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

I have been reconsidering the sail for some time. In person it looks a lot better but I feel I could probably do a better job here. Thank you for your critique!

I like it and dislike it in equal meausre. The glyphs and freehand is really nice I just think there is a bit too much and is making the model look far too busy. I think you could have left it off the sails or done less on the hull.

The bone coloured hull, I really like.

If your going to do something wrong, do it right!!!!

I'd agree with luke, the bone is excellent but the glyphs are a little overused.

Looks great, awesome idea.. I agree though it does get busy and maybe a plain colored sail would have worked better. Other than that, great job

Love the color scheme - bone and blue. Great look. Like the Glyphs but it just seems to busy.

I like it. Very tribal... primal in it's feel. Appropriate for DE I think.

I know it is busy, that was intentional. I think the next one will have one emblem on the sail and glyphs on every second pannel. I was aiming to get across the point that this particular band of dark eldar
enjoy the arts as well as murder. They are often accompanied by the Harlequins of Cegorach and the overall madness is a glorious nightmare. As for the messiness, these guys live off what they steal, they're
in exile and washing a raider before war (no matter how arrogant they may be) doesn't concern them too much.

Thank you all for your kind words and critiques, I'll be sure to take into account all of your suggestions!

As for the bone recipe, it's the same throughout the whole army. Prime with white or black, it doesn't matter, you just add an extra step if you are using black.

1) First undercoat it with black/white, don't be too fussed about how smooth the coat is, there will be a few layers of paint over the top.

2) If you undercoated in black, paint the areas that will be bone with Dheneb Stone from the foundation range. Be sure to cover most of the black.

3) Once that layer has properly dried (not just touch dry, paint on top of wet paint can cause it to crack) paint this area bleached bone.

4) Once the bone has dried, wash thoroughly with Gryphone Sepia wash making sure it seeps into the recesses and creates a gradient along the armour plates.
Note that the raider should be placed on the side you are washing during this process as it will help the wash dry evenly. Stand the raider up and it will create lines where the wash has run.

5) When this has dried apply bleached bone again, this time only to the edges of armour and anywhere the light gleams.

6) Highlight with pure skull white very sparingly to the very edge of the area.

7) Take your gloriously evil raider and use it to kill servants of the emperor.

Technically very good but I think a slightly less 'busy' arrangement of icons would look more effective. It's about 1000 times better than any freehand I've ever done though.
