they look really nice

have you washed them (imo) they dont look dirty enough

but then again i like quite heavily washed miniatures it might not be what your going for.

In which case they are pretty stunning, maybe you could paint the sides of the bases bbrown, that always adds a nice contrast to the grass.

Theres something about raiding planets and then bathing in the slaves misery and torment that really gets me. I love DE, and can now play in 2000point matches with the addition of my latest stuff! Kabal of the Purple Blaze.

I also have 2 squads of IG Shock troopers and a Platoon Comand squad as a start to my IG army For Cadia Check out my blog - http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/380874.page#3047386

Very nice, but how to you intend to play them? As in, which codex? Because some of that stuff isn't legally playable with the official rules.

I suppose by non-codex he didn't mean non codex astartes, he meant, not in any codex at all!

They're good, but your battle damage is odd. I'd model it on rather than paint it. And focus on the edges of plates and such. Take a look at where battle damage occurs on real tanks, because your battle damage looks too regular and almost like camouflage.

I'm not going to weather the rest of the vehicles until they are all done so they match, I've picked up some MIG powders and Tamiya sticks to do the soot, dust and mud.

first 3 sections Rhinos

The 6 infantry sections, some old metal figures mixed in from carboots.

Air Observation Post Landspeeder
for the susprssion force.

and since I was getting bored a Jagdrhino, the gun is on magnets so i can swap a normal Vindicator cannon. Very silly I know but what the hell!

I really like the Forge World Tempest but couldn't afford them so I decided to make something similar with the Landspeeder Storm, which i thought was a more suitable kit to work on.

Landspeeder Hurricane Mk I
Twin linked Heavy bolters, 6 twin linked missiles, twin hunter killers etc etc etc

Landspeeder Hurricane Mk I A
2 twin linked Heavy Bolters, twin linked assault cannons, twin hunter killers.....

Yeah, Its not hoiw I'd do damage / weathering for myself but the lad wanted them to look like the chipping in one of his GW books. They won't looks so bad when they are weathered, I hope. I've taken to applying the wear with ripped up sponge on stick so it doesn't look quite so cheesey!

Cheers!

Cool stuff. I don't really know what's up with the rhino though, two heavy flamers? Is that an option?

The color scheme looks good. I like the tank destroyer.

I LOVE those Tempest's!

Please tell me you took pics of how you made it as I am very very interested in finding out how!

Wow. Lovely stuff, great (wacky too in some cases!) conversions and a solid paint job. Really great stuff. As Knightley said, it's awe inspiring. just the character in all the units is beautiful, with each model being an individual. Wonderful.

I don't care if it's game-legal or not, I'd be more than happy to play this army.

Cheers! I'm under the impression that so long as the points for anything non standard are agreed on anything modelled is good to go with the eldest and his mates.

He'll have enough kosher figures and vehichles to form a company as per the codex when opposed to someone so minded but I'm affraid if I didn't do some wacky stuff from time to time (like the jagdrhino, a variation on the old Sabre conversion if any one still fields them, I think I would go batty. Its fits in with his back story anyroad.

On the cards are a 10 man Techmarine squad with their own dedicated recovery style Rhino (figures nearly done)

A 4 whirlwind (was going to be three but I aquired a set of metal launchers from the Mk I) supression force with bulldozer blades for digging in.

Raised roof anbulance style Rhino and dedicated Rhinos for the devastor squads, I quite fancy stretching one.

When i do them the markings will be quite subdued and subtle, more like modern ones. as i've gone on I have started to remove the more ostentatious decorations, going for a more sombre monkish yet functional look Saying that the Dreadnoughts are getting tiny handicapped blue square stickers on the back....

I'll get my coat...

He's got his own chapter and is writing out the history/back story. I'm trying to model them to fit in with this I'll admit i have prodded him in certain directions.

The colour scheme was supposed to be akin to French WWI horizon blue but came out bluer but what the hell. I have developed a pathological hatred of purity seals and carve them off. Once they are all done I'm I'm going to print off enough chapter symbpls decals (a candle inside a broken oblong that forms 2 "L"s and give them a light dusting with MIG powders and where required a Tamiya soot pen then varnishing them.

Although its a bit fluid the idea is that the chapter is down to a single reinforced company after a long and isolated internal struggle.

I've built a 6 x 4 board for him and his two younger brothers (orks and necrons but they are doing their own figures) which the figure bases match. The theme is a long abandoned imperial planet that has returned to nature, all over grown ruins and rusted vehicles.

Quick question - outside of Sternguard and Terminators, is there a marine squad that can take heavy flamers, never mind 4 of them?

Yeah, i tend to do stuff for the lads when i'm watching TV late at night and folk object to me playing with powertools and generally banging about.

I did a lot of models as a kid (never painted them back then) then did a fair few D&D figures back when i was a student. then I was laid up with a spectacularly broken leg for 6 months I did a few 1:72 RFC planes and got quite good at it, vac forms, resins that sort of stuff. then the kids came along and I pretty much stopped until I started to teach them a couple of years back when they got into GW stuff. The eldest has blown most of a couple of Christmasses and birthdays on kits and i've found a fair bit on carboots (hence the old metal figures mixed in). Once I've finished his stuff I'll have the rest of the year off his stuff until he gets more vehicles at x-mass and help the middle lad work on a 28mm ECW army he wants to start, more my sort of thing.

I've done some 1:72 stuff for their toy soldiers as well. Roman fort

generic WWII/Korea/Vietnam foxholes

a Norman motte and bailey i'm still working on for the youngests Saxons and Normans

and so on. The beams are covered in old school balsa and tissue planes I've made as well although unfortunately the local park is too small and too covered in trees for them. It would seam there is nothing so funny as a large, fat bearded man poking a 1960s Keikraft from a tall tree with tent poles gaffer taped together, but I digress.

I've also been helping the middle son a bit, heres some kannon for his orcs

.

Anyroad, better go and see what kits they are hacking at! Little buggers go back to school tomorrow!

Cheers! I'm not big on sports so apart from providing the kit I leave all that to their mum so its swings and roundabouts. It helps being a house husband and it means no one objects to me doing my own stuff the rest of the time!

Over here ECW is English Civil War, although I suspect your just yanking my chain ;-{D)

Just got 3 predators to finish, two landspeeders to start and a Techmarine squad to finish then I've a rest from marines until he gets the next batch at Christmas. He already owes me all his pocket money until he is about 23!
