It tends to be a more senior figure from your chosen rank each time you improve.

It starts off in about 50s, but becomes more spaced out as you progress.

It depends on the army your trying to represent. Some armies have more classes, while others have less. For example, nercons would have far less rankings, thus less name changes over your post count than say imperial guard.

The true rankings are far more arcane and sinister...

As with most websites that do this, it's a minor bit of fun, and the numbers at which the ranks change are secret, so it's a surprise when it happens and people don't have incentive to spam useless posts just to get up to a known rank switchover number.

I have to agree, want to see a list of the ranks, just to see the ranks and a bit of fun ;P

Well as you level up, you can go to your profile and change your army type repeatedly to see the new rankings. That's what I do.

If you go to your profile, you can choose from the drop-down and see all the different tracks. You can switch between them anytime you like if you'd like a change.

Telling people what all the ranks are ahead of time (especially the hard to get ones at the top) would kind of ruin the fun.

@OP - Also On a side note, DCM's (and Mods etc obviously) can change their title to whatever they want, (within reason) so if you see something totally wierd and think, wait, what.

ok, well - without spoilers - can you guys tell me if there are higher ranks then "Pylon" for Necrons? Cause man, Pylons are... eh.

It's not they suck, per se, but who would WANT to be a pylon? To reiterate my previous thoughts:

Put it this way Ouze, if you are ranked as a Pylon now with ~2300 posts, it would be somewhat strange if that were the top rank for that tree given that some posters are in the 30,000's.....
