I must say that Infinity is a game in which no miniature brings the victory alone. It is the player intelligence what brings victory. Infinity is full of combos and sinergies, it is tactically dense and full of surprises... BUT... certain models are really effective.
Hello everyone, I am Bobba Fett and this is:
Infinity - "Troops that make the Difference" thread.
I´m goin to put here those miniatures which are IMHO really effective in battle. Those troops whose presence is usually so crucial that victory depends on them.
Oniwaban
This ninja can make hidden deployment, has Martial Arts level 3 and carries a Monofilament Close Combat Weapon. Can suddenly appear form nowhere and cut anything in a half.
Aquila Guard
The guy standing in the middle with a HMG is A GOD AMONG INSECTS. He has a ballistic skill of 15, an armor value of 4 an can take two wounds... without menstion his Multispectral Visor Level 3 that allows him to see and shoot any troop.
Cutter, Varuna Naval Chasseur
A TAG, with the highest possible skills for a TAG and TO Cammo. IMHO the most powerful troop in Infinity ever. If you are good enough to impact any shot on his armor, he will probably save the armor roll.
Intruder with Sniper Rfile
Ok, this guy... they did gave him Multispectral Visor Level 2 and also X-Visor, and also MULTI sniper Rifle and above all Cammo skill. Place him in a sniper tower with looooooong lines of fire and your enemy will spend the whole battle spending his orders in avoiding confrontation with the Intruder or miserably failing his FTF rolls against him.
Hassassin Lasiq with Viral Sniper Rifle
Visor X, Climbing plus, Mimetism and the most effective ammunition in the game. A couple of Lasiqs can give you a battle, a fireteam can give you a tournament.
Tankhunter with Autocannon
The most powerful weapon of the game in the hands of a guy who doesn´t even has to confront his roll.
I'll continue some other day. Have fun.

Hehe those are some of the common favorites. I'm too lazy to post pics but my picks would be...
Nomads
- Sin-Eater with Mutisniper, HMG, or MK12 - Basically Total Reaction, Mimetism, ARM 3, BS 13.
- Intruder with HMG See the above, but with a 4 shots in the active phase
Aleph
- Asura with Spitfire. She is a goddess with MSV3, 4 shots, armor 5, 2 wounds, and No Wound Incomp.
Haqq
- Hassin Fiday, nothing says loving like a stab in the back from an impersonator
Ariadna
- Mirage 5 - What worse then a cute chick with BS 15, a grenade launcher, at AD2? Her werewolf boyfriend with dual chain rifles, 2 wounds, total immunity, and AD2.
- ANtipodes - 3 dog men that move stealthed 6-6 speed all 3 with a single order. Be prepaired to get your back line eatten.
Yu-Jing
- Hac Tao, fantastic BS combined with multispectral goodness.
Pan'O
- Auxilia Guard, 14pts for a heavy flamerbot AND a combi rilfe infantry.
Combined
- Speculo Killer, see the fiday above.. but with a monofilament weapon and no weakness vs other combined.

Good that you have also chosen some of the coolest looking models in the game there Boba Fett
TYu Jing Tiger Soldiers - These guys (and gals), rock solid stats, a highly useful drop troop who won't die the moment someone turns a gun on them.

Too bad that nothing is perfect. I learnt it by the bad way, with a Domaru Butai (Yu Jing, close combat skill 19, martial arts N2, cool weapons, heavy armour, 2 wounds...). My first Infinity close combat ever. Rolled a 20 to hit. 19 different rolls to succeed and only 1 to fail. That was an epic fail. Got shot back with a combi rifle and just died.
I thought "ok, they really meant that this is a shooty game, dakkaites were right".

Domaru Butai has berserk. Use that and you would automatically hit, with a critical on anything from 12+. Course, they'd hit you at the same time, but hey, you have 2 wounds and power armour.
Oh, and I havn't gotten a chance to use my Haq army yet (and depending on if I can get a game on Sunday before I move to Lethbridge or not, I may not have a chance for several months), but the Asawira is rocking my socks. BS 14 AP rifle, regeneration at PH14, WIL15 doctor and plenty of other goodies make him a great point-man or front line doctor (or both!), and MA lvl2, CC17, and a shock CCW mean that even some of the deadlier close combat specialists will be weary around him.
Not to mention that both of his models kick ass.

Hmmm it was a demo game, we weren't using most of that kind of rules. I didn't even know what Berserk does. Next time!! :shakes fist:

Naffatun.
12 points for heavy flame thrower with 14 wip to go with it for intuitive attacks. Also a rifle for longer range and 4:4 move.

Even if you weren't using the berserker rules you played the resolution right. Berserker and Martial Arts only take effect in melee, if the enemy miniature can declare a shot ARO then Berserker or MA don't take effect. From the sounds of your narration it seems you did the next with your wounded Domaru
-Spend an order on the Domaru and declare first short ability: MOVE from this point to base tobase with an enemy miniature
-Enemy miniature ARO shot while the Domaru approaches
-Domaru declares second short order CC
Resolution of combat : a CC 19 roll against a BS X roll. Domaru rolled a 20 thus failling, the enemy passed the roll , hitting the Domaru, Domaru didn't make the armor roll receiving his second wound and falling unconscious.
If Domaru had survived then the next order CC order would have benefited from Berserker's bonus given the fact enemy's only allowable AROs while engaged are CC or disengage (dodge)

He missed too. The combi rifle that killed my Domaru was shot by a third miniature. Don't remember if using an ARO or if it was in his next turn. But it was like two minutes later than my epic roll.

In that case you could activate berserker, instead of a FtF roll each combatant would have made a direct roll, yours with a +9 bonus. About the shot, if it was a third unit AROing the moment the Domaru moved then OK. However in later orders, once the domaru was engaged, the unit would be shotting at a melee thefore having to apply a -6 modifier to the shot and with a chance of hitting the friendly unit if the BS roll failed by more than 6 point of difference.

Berserk wouldn't have worked since the enemy declared shoot as an ARO. That one was FAQed.

I like my Kum Motorized Troop with a Chain Rifle. 8-8, smoke grenades, Impetuous, auto hits with the small template and all for only 11 points ( IIRC). He rarely survives beyond turn 2, but my word he can scare the s*** out of the enemy!

8-6 move, but you are very right. Kum are one of the most underrated units in the game IMO. Everyone looks at the Lasiqs an the Impersonators, but Kum are dirt cheap, fast and have a lot of killing power.

Here's hoping I can make you like them even more - the chain rifle is the BIG template, not the small one

The key thing with playing them is to use coordinated movement to limit the amount of AROs coming at you as you advance. I'm interested to hear how they do.

Eh problem with least effective is it is really dependent your list. The great thing about Infinity is every unit is almost creepily balanced and even the ones listed here, while they are cool, their points are extremely balanced, so in essence their points worth is just as well spent in other models (just as long as the role they are intended for is filled).
Least Effective would mainly be subject to if you are playing a sectorial or not.
er... well the one I can think of offhand is Nomad Securitate. They are just overcosted because Sixth Sense 2 was rare before human sphere was release, so it was point costly. Now with linked teams getting it, it makes the Securate look a little point heavy for their gear/stats.

Pheasant Agent from Yu Jing also fits as least effective. It's not that he's bad or anything, he does a lot of things quite well actually. The only problem is that he pays for all of it and doesn't really specialize in anything. Being so well-rounded wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that he can't really use all his abilities effectively. Sure, he's crazy versatile, but that's about it.

Although could you also say that if you are playing defensively, or rather not dictating play to your own choosing, then having those extra abilities/skills might be useful? I'm still a complete noob though so please don't take my words too seriously!
I do think though it's one of the most beautiful models in the range, it contrasts really well with the lack of ostentation with some of the other more plain models in the Chinese side of the YuJing (and highlights the relationship in their culture/background).
