Why care about ranks. The best way to Promoted is to judged by your peers. If you are courteous to others, promote the site with your ideas and skills and want to contribute in any way you can, that in a way is more important than just cranking out posts as I have seen people do in here so they can get this mythical rank of importance.

Yes... and no...
Most DCM's wanted to donate to a site that provides them a good deal of entertainment, thereby supporting the site. As a bonus they get promoted to a DCM.
Conversely a handful just want the title and added features so they toss Yak a few bucks.
But yes, you have to pay to become a DCM.
