I've only had a couple of games against Necron flyer spam. The first one went well due to luck on my part and poor target priority on the opponent's part. The second one went badly due to average luck on my part and better tactics from the opponent.
Here's my current list: Fateweaver, Lord Of Change (MoS & BoC), 6xFlamers (Pyrocaster), 5xFlamers (Pyrocaster), 5xHorrors (Changeling), 5xHorros, 5xHorrors, 7xScreamers, 7xScreamers (1496pts).
I was playing against 2xCommand Barges, 3xNight Scythes, 3xAnnihilation Barges and some warriors & cryptecs held in reserve. So not extreme flyer spam, just balanced & points efficient flyer spam. I'm looking for tactics on how to more reliably take down lists like this in competitive play. This is all at the 1500 points level with Daemons as my primary detachment and I want something that is balanced against non-flyer spam as well, so full Tzeentch flying circus isn't really an option (scary in casual play, but IMO easy to beat by someone who knows what they are doing).
In both games I went second and got my preferred wave (Fateweaver, LoC, both Screamers and some pink horrors). So firstly is this the ideal split? If I'm going first, I think it probably is, but not so sure if I'm going second. Going second with Fateweaver & the LoC in my non-preferred wave means I might get the drop on my opponents flyers. In my second game I lost Fateweaver before he could even make use of Skyfire and I was unlucky with the LoC. (Hopefully) deep striking in turn 2, I could try to get some shots in before loosing one or both of my Flying Monstrous Creatures. The disadvantage is that I loose the protection of Fateweaver for my other units against the massive high strength fire power coming from all those barges and scythes. So it's a bit of a risk and I need to deploy far more defensively than I normally do. My usual tactic is to drop & vector strike with my screamers turn 1 & assault turn 2. I'm fairly careful with my Flamers, normally dropping so that I'm guaranteed template hits the following turn rather than risking a deep strike right next to my opponent. I also try to end up with as much as I can protected by Fateweaver at the end of the turn I drop. My opponent could also just fly his Scythes on and off the board each turn until there are FMC to actually shoot at or its turn 5 and he's ready to drop his Warriors on objectives.
My other option is allies - probably Imperial Guard. But at 1500 points, my gut feel is that this would just weaken my Daemons too much against non-flying opponents, but still not be enough against flyer spam - I'd probably have to loose the LoC and either a unit of Screamers or Flamers. Bastion, Quad-gun & Vendetta might be doable at 1750, but not at 1500, though I'd love to be proved wrong. If I were to include Guard does anyone have any thoughts about the Master of the Fleet (or whatever that 30pt upgrade that gives my opponent -1 to his reserve rolls is called). Does possibly delaying some of the enemy flyers make things worse or better? If I go first I can see it being better, but if I go second there's more chance of the opponent getting the drop on me. And 30 points isn't exactly cheap, I could get another Screamer & change for that.
Finally are there any other changes I could make to my list? I'm certainly not sure I've got the optimal Flamers, Screamer, Horror split & load-out. I don't feel comfortable with the Aegis Defense Line or Bastion unless I've got allies, due to the extreme vulnerability it gives me against infiltrators, so don't suggest that.
Thanks.
