I have been toying with the idea of making my GK henchmen army out of conversions (as I am not a fan of the metal models available - both pose and price-wise).
Today while visiting the LFGS, I saw a box of cultists (the small £6 one) and it all came to me. After the release of the DV box, I completely forgot about these guys and they are fairly cheap on Ebay at the moment.

Does anyone had a similar idea? I did a search and could only find a conversion for psycher henchmen - and I am more thinking about warrior acolytes - both with the laspistol/chainsword as well as boltguns/ multimeltas.

How hard would it be to change the weapons on these guys to the Imperial counterparts? Could the stub-pistol pass by a laspistol?

How hard would it be to scratch the chaos symbols/tattoos off the guys?

Would you frown upon these conversions if you saw them on a tabletop, on the opposite side? Should I stick with the boring and more expensive Imperial Guard/Scout conversions?

I think you could easily de-chaos them. I cleaned up some khorne beserkers I got from a friend of all chaos stuff and now they are part of my death company for BA.

I think what you would need is: some greenstuff, extra heads to replace the ones you can't clean up a sharp xacto blade and a file. Some extra weapons bits ie bolters or special weapons for how you want to fit them.

They are easy to clean up, in fact you could probably use most of them straight out the box!

I disagree slightly there. They all have a chaos-esque disc on them & the gas masks need work because they're rather nurglesque some if them. Is it hard to convert them though? Not really. I've turned several into gangers for necromunda & I'm considering trying to acquire some more of the fellows with the nurgle gas masks to make into a CCS for Odon from IA11 whom I made from the traitor commissar. Also made a priest from the hooded fellow.

I don't see a need to do more than scrape away the Chaos Sigils. If you want warrior acolytes then they work fine as Criminal Underworlders or gangsters. Imperials use Autoweaponry too. No reason to change them. For Bolters, there are couple in the company command squads. Other weapons I'm not sure.

Everybody but the RTO began life as a DV cultist. The RTO did get his rifle from a cultist however.

Well stub/auto pistols have the same stats as laspistols so it should work.
