So I've been wondering more and more what everybody's favourite unit is fluff wise and how they play on the table.

I would have to say mine is hands down wolf guard.

Loved Flamers back when they cost 35 points: a danger on the field, and their fluff was pretty cool: they had an "equal" chance of nuking the enemy as they did to cover them in magical faerie fire.

I suppose with the need for a stereotypical SM response, I'd have to say Black Templar techmarines. Who else can put out 8 attacks alone on the charge? (2 base, pistol, 2 PF from servo harness, terminator honors, rage) Oh yeah...a chaos lord with Daemon Weapon. That's pretty much it, other than a Greater Daemon.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

just to see someone grapping dice to take cover saves while I stand there smiling and explaining he doesn't need to roll...

other thand that, two thunderfire cannons are perfect too.. pumping out 8 str6 blasts with 60" range

yeah and razorbacks vs eldar transports... its so much much fun to explain your transport costs only 35 points base and 75 with a lascannon while he pays 100+ base

Ogryns. Just a fun unit in the IG codex that doesn't get blown of the tabe by a gentle breeze. I use five of them withy arrack and shove them in a chimera. The other unit is a squad of ten running across the battle field.

I don't have one favourite unit, but I have several that I either really like or am excited about. Black Knights are one of them. I was initially going to collect Deathwing after getting the new DA codex, but after seeing them I decided to switch to Ravenwing. Having every bike either have a TL Plasma Gun or a Grenade launcher which either gives the enemy radiation poisoning or slows down time is pretty awesome. Plus the horseman's picks look amazing, and the fluff of them being the Ravenwing's Inner Circle is also cool (although it is odd that they themselves don't have Inner Circle).

From the Tau Codex, I really like the Broadside Team. To me, if the Broadside Suit could talk, every single turn it would ask me 'Ok, what do you want dead?' . And it obliges. TL S10 AP1 from across the table can wreck pretty much anything from Heavy Armor to Heavy Infantry.

For my armies:

Necron: The ghost arks is great if you field warriors, Wraiths can be really effective but I will admit I hate the new models, and much prefer the old ones.
Vehicle: Ghost Ark(it has an eerie but interesting back story)
Wraiths(something about using repair machines in war just seems neat)

Dark Angels: The Deathwing seem to be good in games so far but their codex is less than a month old.
Deathwing(they have fluff all the way down to the reason their armor is colored the way it is)

Blood Angels: The furioso is an amazing death machine, it walks through hoards. Sanguinary guard can be really good but they can be difficult to play to their full potential.
Furioso Dreadnaughts(not libby)(it is just a cool unit, and I really like it)
Sanguinary guard(they personify a graceful and deadly force of space marines in golden power armor descending from the heavens to crush the enemies of the Imperium)

Blood for the bloo... wait no, I meant for Sanguinius!

Possessed. Like, Daemons, which actually create fear in Fearless beings (fluffwise) and then put them in the very beings which shouldn't fear them but do, and are unmatched save by the Primarchs and each other.

I have two, and they both link back to the first time I ever saw 40k be played, Death Company and Genestealers. Man that was a good fight, no idea what edition it was in, it was 10 years ago if someone can work that out?
